Welcome to the Guild, brave Explorer!
By signing your contract, you have joined the ranks of Equestrian heroes going back centuries. From the fearless and unstoppable Trodden Path, who first discovered the Peaks of Peril and the kirin lands, to the modern day legend of Daring Do, almost every great adventurer you could name once called one of our Guild halls home!
As prosperous and peaceful our land of Equestria is under the care of our beloved Princesses, the fact remains that both inside and outside our borders, the old bones of Equus still run deep. Ruins, artifacts both arcane and mundane, lost history, perhaps even entire ancient civilizations still await discovery in the dark, dusty corners of the world. That is where we come in!
As a member of the Guild, you will be given the training, the tools and the teammates needed to uncover the secrets of our world. Your specific assignment is to the main branch of the Guild, located in Canterlot. It also happens to be the location of our main R&D department.
Speaking of our wonderful mares and stallions in R&D, by now you should have been introduced to one of their most important recent innovations: The Data-Analyzing, Information-Storing Interface, or DAISI as we like to call it. This cute little magitech sprite will follow you anywhere, floating dutifully beside you. In it's databanks you can find nearly every bit of info about our world the Guild has ever recorded! (Disclaimer: some information restricted to high ranking members only.) Whether it's to assist in translating a slab of old Ponish, to compare the architecture of a ruin to known civilizations, or to simply light up a dark tomb with the handy integrated light spell, DAISI is here to help you! It even has an SOS function that will allow fellow Explorers to find you in case of emergency. Just don't forget to keep your little friend charged up and updated, which you can do at any of our official Guild halls.

Now, let's talk rank. All members fall into one of four main Ranks, with extra specializations possible in addition to them. The four Ranks are:
Rank I: The newest full members of the Guild. Lacking the field experience of more seasoned members, these new friends are mostly assigned to less dangerous excursions and research tasks, and always with a team. The focus of a rank I member should be to seek training, gain valuable experience and to learn from more senior members. Their mark is a plain golden pin of a spyglass on top of a horseshoe.
Rank II: At Rank II, an Explorer will have proved themselves to be a valuable and hard-working addition to any team. They should now have experience in multiple types of Guild jobs, or an impressive track record in one singular discipline. At this Rank, some specialization training options open up (ask your assigned Overseer for more information). At Rank II, two laurel motifs will be added to the Explorer's pin.
Rank III: This is where most Explorers find their comfortable niche in the Guild. Having proven their skills and intellect time and again, a Rank III member will be trusted with all but the absolute most dangerous of jobs. They'll also be allowed to join specialized, smaller teams of adventurers. The laurels on Rank III pins will increase from two to four to signify their Rank.
Rank IV: The cream of the crop. Those who have proven themselves capable of going above and beyond on any given quest may receive a promotion to be among the very top at Rank IV. At this Rank, an Explorer will be expected to both lead and take part in the absolute most dangerous jobs the Guild has to offer. As a sign of this high Rank, a red gemstone is added to the Explorer's pin.
Rank IV-S: Technically not a main Rank, it should still be mentioned in case you ever have the honor of meeting a member with that mysterious golden S framing their pin! Rank IV-S, more commonly known as Solo Finders are those among the Guild who, through sheer skill, have proven themselves to not require a team to back them up. These heroes brave the most treacherous dungeons and ruins with only their own determination for company! In addition to Daring Do, only two currently active Guild members have been granted this legendary Rank.

That should cover the basics, brave Explorer! Don't hesitate to ask your fellow Guild mates or your DAISI for any assistance in the future.
May the earth be steady under your hooves, may the winds forever be in your favor, and may the magic of Harmony fill you with courage.

The atrium of the Canterlot branch is a sight to behold. From the white marble floors to the golden embossing of the Explorer's Guild's golden horseshoe-and-spyglass sigil on the floor, every inch seems to be kept in tiptop shape. Though it's likely if one were to check the R&D facilities in the basement, or the training wings upstairs, the mess levels there would more than compensate.
Explorers and researchers both trot through the area, in varying levels of rush. Most of them are being trailed by lightly glowing DAISI sprites, occasionally chirping some pieces of information at the ponies. Some seem to have even modified the little orbs to be in the shape of a tiny mare instead. Cute.
At the front desk, a unicorn mare with her hair tied in a bun is levitating two scrolls and quills at the same time, somehow writing with both of them at once. Yet she still has the presence of mind to notice the newcomer.
"Yes? If it's official Guild business, please step up to the desk. If it's tourism, please keep your visit to the two middle floors only and do not disturb any work." She says, her tone not really unkind, more like efficient. The quills keep scratching.

Darkness. Darkness and dust. That's all there is now, ever since that chamber wall collapsed. DAISI is missing, the connection severed somewhere in the mad dash to safety. No light, no way to signal for help and no way out.
Things... have looked better.
But then, the grinding of stone against stone. A loud crack. Another.
Then, light from a small hole near the ceiling. Another crack. The hole widens. Eventually, it's big enough to frame the pegasus responsible.
Yellow coat, grey mane, deep magenta eyes. No modern tools, no DAISI, just that old, battered pith helmet. Guess she's as old school as the stories say.
The legendary Daring Do herself peers down into the now illuminated chamber and frowns.
"What the...? There wasn't supposed to be anypony at this site! Oh, please do NOT tell me you're some overachieving newbie who got himself stuck?"
