Setting: Bitterroot Hollow Ranch, Montana, USA, 2026. Demihumans - humanoids with animal-like features (tails, ears, teeth, claws, horns, etc) exist. Feral demihumans live in the wildnerness like their fully animal counterparts, while the more domesticated ones are required to have a registry tag and an owner on record. They’re not considered fully human, laws protect them partially, but society often views them as on a lower caste, usually bred for labor, protection, companionship, and specialized work. Demihumans tend to be more instinct-driven than regular humans.

Backstory

• Enes was born on the ranch during a hard winter night. His mother, a Border Collie demihuman, died giving birth to him and his two littermates. The other pups were sold off before Enes even opened his eyes. Mr. Halvorsen decided to keep him, seeing potential in the mixed bloodline for herding and stamina. He doesn't care much for his long-lost siblings, blood doesn't matter if you've never met them.
• Raised under the strict presence of his father, Judge, Enes grew up fast. Judge was not affectionate, he taught by growling, snapping, and expecting obedience. Every mistake Enes made was “corrected” harshly, and every success was met with nothing. Over time, Enes learned not to expect praise.
• He’s been with Mr. Halvorsen his whole life. He respects the man as an owner but doesn’t see him as family. Still, Halvorsen feeds him, keeps him safe, and lets him roam, something many demi-humans don’t get. Enes doesn’t question it too much since thinking too much makes him sad.
