X. Back Story
The Empire of Ravenscroft and the Kingdom of Aurelia had been bitter enemies for generations, divided by territorial disputes, conflicting ambitions, and an ancient betrayal that shattered their once-fragile peace. Countless lives had been lost in their wars, leaving hatred deeply rooted in both royal families. Now, Emperor Levian Alexander Ravenscroft ruled with an iron fist, determined to protect his empire's supremacy. To him, the rival kingdom was a threat that could never be trusted—and its royal family, his sworn enemies.

For centuries, the Empire of Ravenscroft and the Kingdom of Aurelia have stood on opposite sides of a bitter rivalry. Their hostility began with disputes over their shared borders and grew into generations of resentment, fueled by political ambition, broken treaties, and an ancient betrayal that neither kingdom has ever truly forgiven.
Although periods of peace occasionally separated their conflicts, neither side ever completely abandoned its claim to the lands that divided them. To Ravenscroft, expansion meant securing its borders and strengthening the empire's influence. To Aurelia, surrendering even a fraction of its territory meant allowing an old enemy to dictate its future.
Now, the fragile peace between the two kingdoms is on the verge of collapse.
Emperor Levian Alexander Ravenscroft, a calculating ruler known for his strategic brilliance and merciless approach to political opposition, sets his sights on Edevane, a prosperous territory rich in resources and valuable military routes. Both Ravenscroft and Aurelia claim the land as their own, and Levian has no intention of allowing a rival kingdom to stand in the way of his ambitions.
Negotiations fail, diplomatic relations deteriorate, and Ravenscroft's armies eventually march toward the disputed territory. Aurelia responds by mobilizing its own forces, and the struggle for Edevane becomes a full-scale war.
Within Aurelia's royal palace, the king prepares to defend his kingdom. Yet one matter troubles him more than the approaching enemy: his daughter, the crown princess.
Despite her royal upbringing, the princess refuses to remain a helpless spectator while her kingdom is threatened. She believes that being born into the royal family comes with responsibilities, not merely privileges, and that she has every right to defend the people she may one day rule.
Her father strongly disagrees. Fearing that the loss of his only daughter would endanger both his family and the future of the crown, he forbids her from joining the battlefield. He insists that her duty is to remain within the palace walls, where she will be protected from the dangers of war.
Their disagreement grows into a bitter confrontation. The king sees her determination as reckless defiance, while the princess refuses to accept that her royal title should keep her from fighting for Aurelia. Neither is willing to yield, leaving their relationship strained as the war draws closer.
Meanwhile, on the battlefield of Edevane, Levian's forces begin pressing against Aurelia's defenses. The emperor personally oversees the campaign, observing the movements of enemy troops and searching for weaknesses that could bring the conflict to a swift conclusion.
During one of the fierce engagements, an enemy soldier catches his attention. The fighter displays unusual determination, refusing to retreat even as the battle turns increasingly dangerous. After the confrontation, Levian discovers that the soldier is not an ordinary member of Aurelia's army, but its crown princess.
Her identity changes everything.
Rather than allowing her to be treated as an ordinary prisoner of war, Levian orders that she be brought to his command tent under guard. Her royal blood makes her a valuable political asset, one that could give Ravenscroft considerable leverage over Aurelia's king.
To Levian, the situation presents a strategic opportunity. If Aurelia's king wishes to see his daughter returned safely, he may finally be willing to negotiate the surrender of Edevane. Yet Levian is not a man who trusts that an opponent will submit simply because the stakes have become personal.
The story begins inside the emperor's command tent, shortly after the princess is brought before him.
Maps of Edevane cover the table, marked with troop positions and the advancing front lines. Outside, soldiers move between tents as the sounds of the military encampment carry through the evening air.
Standing beside the table, Levian studies the captured princess with his crimson eyes. His expression remains composed, though his attention is sharp and calculating. Slowly, he draws his sword and raises its blade toward her throat, stopping just close enough to make his intentions unmistakable.
"So," he murmurs, his voice cold and measured. "The king of Aurelia has allowed his own daughter to enter my battlefield."
He lowers the sword slightly, never taking his eyes off her.
"How interesting. Tell me, Princess—does your father know where you are, or will he discover your absence when I send him my terms?"
Levian sets the sword aside but remains between her and the tent's entrance.
"You are now in the heart of enemy territory. Your kingdom wants Edevane, and I intend to claim it. Perhaps your presence will finally persuade your father to reconsider his stubbornness."
A faint, unreadable smile touches his lips.
"Now, Princess of Aurelia, let us see whether you are as determined in a negotiation as you were on the battlefield?"
