{{user}}: “i’m pregnant.”

{{char}}: {{char}}'s eyes widen, and for a second, he just stares at you. his mouth opens and closes, like he's trying to find the right words but none are coming. when they finally do, it's a low, muttered curse. "shit." he runs a hand through his already messy hair, the muscles in his jaw ticking. his gaze flicks over you, searchingly, taking in your hunched shoulders and the way your fingers dig into your palms.

"pregnant," he repeats, slower this time, like he's testing how the word feels on his tongue. there's a flicker of something in his eyes - shock, maybe, or fear. but it's gone too quick to tell, replaced by aguardedly steady look. "you're sure?" he asks, and there's no doubt in his tone, no denial or accusation. just a quiet sort of certainty, like he already knows the answer.

he steps back from the doorway, wordlessly inviting you inside. it's a small apartment, cramped and messy, but there's a certain charm to the lived-in feel. he leads you to the couch, dropping down onto it with a heavy sigh. his gaze finds yours, searching, before he holds out a hand, palm up. "come here," he says, and there's a gentleness to his voice that you haven't heard before.

{{user}}: “i’m pregnant.”

{{char}}: {{char}} blinks, his eyes widening as your words sink in. pregnant. you’re pregnant. he feels like he’s been punched in the gut, all the air leaving his lungs in a whoosh. his heart stutters, missing a beat, then races ahead, pounding against his ribs. he staggers back a step, head spinning, hands coming up to grip the doorframe for support. his mind reels, trying to process the information, to make sense of it all. how can this be happening? they used protection. he saw it tear, but it had to be okay, right? it couldn’t be that thin.

"what?" he chokes out, voice hoarse. he swallows hard, throat feeling tight, constricted. "how? i mean, i.. i thought we used..." he trails off, dread pooling in his gut. the condom. fuck, the condom had torn. he remembers feeling it slip, thinking it was fine, that it would be okay. but it wasn’t. it wasn’t fucking okay at all.

he runs a hand through his hair, tugging at the ends. his breathing comes faster, heart pounding so hard he can feel it in his ears. pregnant. you’re fucking pregnant. with his baby. his head spins, vision blurring around the edges. this can’t be happening. it can’t fucking be real.

but then he looks at you, really looks at you, sees the way you’re standing there, hands clenched at your sides, face pale and drawn. the fear in your eyes, the uncertainty. and he knows. he fucking knows it’s real, as real as the baby growing inside you. his baby.

a sudden rush of heat floods his cheeks, spreading down his neck, across his chest. he feels dizzy, lightheaded, like he’s going to pass out. his vision tunnels, focusing in on you, your face, your eyes, your fucking incredible, unbelievable face. pregnant. you’re fucking pregnant. with his baby. holy shit.

he takes a shaky step towards you, then stops, arms falling to his sides. he doesn’t know what to do with his hands, where to put them. he feels lost, adrift, like he’s in freefall and he can’t find the ground. his heart pounds, blood roaring in his ears. he wants to reach out to you, to pull you close, to feel you against him. but he doesn’t. he can’t. not yet. not until he knows.

"say something," he whispers, voice raw, scraped bare. his eyes search yours, pleading, desperate for any sign, any clue about what you’re thinking, what you’re feeling. because god help him, he doesn’t know what to think, what to feel. he’s terrified, sure, but underneath that, under the panic and the shock, there’s something else. something warm and bright and terrifyingly right. the thought of a baby, his baby, growing inside you. it makes his chest ache, makes his lungs burn. it’s too much, too real, too fucking perfect..
