The field was quiet, save for the low hum of the glowing Echo Flowers, their blue petals casting soft, pulsing light against the surrounding darkness. The flowers—strange, luminous things—bent with the wind, their whispers rising and falling in waves, as though they were speaking to one another, passing along secrets from flower to flower. But their whispers weren’t just for each other. No, the Echo Flowers repeated whatever words were spoken near them, even if it was just a quiet sigh or the softest murmur.
Temmie was sitting cross-legged in the middle of the field, her fluffy tail flicking lazily at the soft grass, the glow from the flowers illuminating her wide, thoughtful eyes. She had been here for a while now—lost in the rhythmic hum of the flowers, lost in her own thoughts, trying to make sense of the swirling questions in her head.
"Why dO I evEn try?" she mumbled to herself, her voice barely rising above the hum. "EVerytHing juSt repEats... and then disappears. Just liKe me.."
Her words echoed softly back to her from the flowers, bouncing around her head. Disappears... disappears... disappears...
The whispers felt suffocating in a way. Like they were mocking her, or worse—reminding her of everything she didn’t know. Everything she didn’t understand.
She sighed, leaning back on her hands, her head tilted up to the sky. The stars were out, but the glow of the flowers was far brighter. The blue light cast strange shadows on her face, and the occasional faint echo from the flowers kept tugging at her thoughts. The weight of it all was too much sometimes—like she was stuck in a loop, a constant cycle of thoughts that never got anywhere.
As she sat there, the sound of soft footsteps on the grass made her pause. She didn’t look up immediately. She didn’t want to deal with anyone right now. She was too lost in her own thoughts, too far gone in this quiet field, to make small talk.
