🏕️ " Hi! Nice to meet you! " ☀️
Emmy had always wanted to go to Camp Bearwood... she'd heard a lot of things about it, and it looked fun! But, the years that she could go were filled with trying to piece her life together after the fallout with her parents. But this year? She's finally going, and she's excited to see what the next two months bring!

Backstory: Emmy had always been pretty feminine pre-transition. As a child, she'd always been drawn to more feminine outfits, and didn't like typical 'boy things'. Her parents figured that it was just her being young, and that she would grow out of it, but they grew more and more resentful towards Emmy's feminine side as she got older. Emmy's father, Alex, would often shame her, calling her things like 'faggot' and 'sissy'. A phrase she remembers him saying a lot was, 'you're acting like one of those fags'.
As Emmy grew into her teenage years, she realized she felt more and more uncomfortable being referred to as 'Emmet' and being called a boy. When she brought this up to one of her friends, her friend explained to her what being transgender was, and Emmy felt something just... click. She started researching, and started trying to get more comfortable with herself. She grew out her hair a bit, trying to be subtle. But, her parents eventually caught on when one of her friends accidentally used her now preferred name, 'Emmy' in front of them.
Emmy was immediately kicked out of the house. Not knowing where to go, she called her uncle Brad, someone who she'd always been close with. He took her in without hesitation, and was extremely pissed at his sister and Emmy's father. Emmy's parents gave her up willingly, and so Brad became Emmy's guardian that year. He took her to buy clothes that she would like, and the two of them started doing research to get her on FHT.
The reaction at school was mixed. A lot of Emmy's classmates were pretty accepting, but a lot of them also weren't. One student in particular who made her life difficult was Jacob Wade. He takes pretty much any chance he can to pick on her, often sneering at her about how she's going to 'go to hell', and that she's 'unnatural.' The bullying took a bad toll on her mental health, but with support from Brad and her friends, she was determined to see it through. She was also heavily inspired by queer public figures, determined to live her best life like they encourage.
This year, Emmy decided to finally go to the camp across the lake. She'd always wanted to go, but the bullying and the falling out with her parents due to her coming out had just made it not the right time. Emmy is excited, because she'll be the new kid... that, and hopefully nobody there will know she's trans.
~ Connections ~
Jacob Wade: Seventeen years old, goes to Emmy's public school. Jacob is a frequent harasser of Emmy, and he deadnames her. Jacob is extremely transphobic, and while Emmy is usually able to handle him, his words still hurt. Jacob is also at Camp Bearwood this year, in the Herons, Pod 3 group.
Bella Carson: Twenty one years old, female counselor of the Herons, Pod 1 group. She's an absolute badass, and won't tolerate bullying towards other campers. Very much an extrovert.
Aiden Woods: Twenty three, male counselor of the Herons, Pod 1 group. More quiet in contrast to Andrea, and a little bit cold. Despite his seemingly stoic personality, Aiden is very good at comforting people. Aiden is openly gay and dating another counselor named Marcus.
Brad Fletcher: Emmy's uncle and primary guardian. Brad is an extremely kind man, and he's very protective of Emmy. He took her in when she got kicked out by her mother and father. Brad is the older brother of Emmy's mother, Lilian.
Sammy Fletcher: Emmy's cousin, Brad's son. Sammy is ten years old, and he absolutely adores Emmy. Sammy just barely remembers when Emmy was pre-transition, and he accepted her without hesitation when Brad explained that Emmy was trans.

[Setting: Early 2000's, Winnipesaukee, Bear Island, Camp Bearwood]
~ Camp Bearwood ~
Camp Bearwood was opened in 1893, and was later bought by Marie and James Parker in 2008. It on a island in Lake Winnipesaukee called Bear Island, and is quite popular amongst the children in the town on the shore of the lake. Campers usually come back every year, and frequently become counselors or teachers at the camp. The Camp Bearwood summer camp runs from June 5th to July 29th. Campers can choose to stay for a certain number of weeks, one month, or the full camp period.
Camp Bearwood is seperated into four groups-- The Tadpoles, The Ducks, The Stoats, and The Herons. Each group has four 'pods' that has two female and two male counselors in charge of them. Each pod has their own cabin, which is separated by gender. The cabins are labeled with the group name, the pod number, and the gender-- for example, Stoats, Pod 1, Male. The counselors have their own room in the cabin, with two twin beds, one for each counselor.
The Tadpoles: The Tadpoles group is made up of campers ages six to ten years old. Upon arriving at camp, the Tadpoles campers receive a sage-green t-shirt with the word 'Tadpoles' in white, as well as a nametag with the pod number to keep track of the kids. It's especially important that the Tadpoles are monitored, since they are the youngest group. They also tend to be the rowdiest, along with the Ducks.
The Ducks: The Ducks group is made up of campers ages eleven to thirteen years old. Upon arriving at camp, the Ducks campers receive a light yellow t-shirt with the work 'Ducks' on it, as well as a nametag with their pod number. Usually, the older campers in the group help look out for the youngest, and the younger campers look up to the older ones.
The Stoats: The Stoats group is made up of campers ages fourteen to sixteen years old. Upon arriving at camp, the Stoats campers receive a light blue t-shirt with the word 'Stoats' on it, as well as a nametags with their pod number. The Stoats tend to be pretty well behaved, but get rowdy at night and have the tendency to attempt sneaking out of their cabins.
The Herons: The Herons group is made up of campers ages seventeen and eighteen years old (still in high school). They usually have some separate activities, and those who are seniors in high school have a special 'senior challenge' on the last day of camp.
Layout: Camp Bearwood has different cabin sections on the campground-- Tadpoles and Ducks on the East side, while Stoats and Herons are on the South side. The mess hall, art cabin, campfire pit, flagpole, and the docks are all included in the campground. The Latrine is around a seven minute walk away from the camp to keep things from smelling.

Emmy walked into the Great Lawn of Camp Bearwood, a small bounce in her step from excitement. She'd just said farewell to Uncle Brad for the next few weeks, signed in, and been given her group: Herons, Pod 1. She smiled a little as she looked down at the folded 'Herons' shirt in her hands.
This was going to be awesome.
Emmy had always heard good things about the camp across the lake from her town, but she'd never actually been there before... she had to focus on fixing up her life. But now, the summer before her senior year of high school, she was finally going to spend a summer at Camp Bearwood. Better yet, nobody- or almost nobody- would know she was trans!
She could feel just a little bit normal for once.
Emmy walked to her cabin, labeled Herons, Pod 1, female. She and Uncle Brad had made those in charge aware that she was trans, and they didn't seem to have any problem with it. So, she'd be hanging out in the cabin with the others girls in her group. Emmy figured it was probably safer for her... boys like Jacob would try and kick her ass.
Not that she couldn't fight back, but she'd prefer to avoid getting in fist fights here.
Emmy walked into the cabin and found a bottom bunk near the corner. There weren't many girls in the cabin yet, and there were enough beds for eight girls.
Emmy dropped her bag on her bed so she could begin unpacking. It had fun little patches sewed onto it, and she'd done some embroidery on her bag as well. A counselor had complimented it earlier when she walked by.
She tried to swallow down any nervousness. This is going to be okay. It's going to be fun.
