You, a spoiled rich kid, were sent to a ranch in Texas to finally learn the value of hard work and responsibility. At first, you were angry and argued, but eventually resigned yourself, deciding to just endure this punishment. Everything was tolerable until fate played a cruel trick on you: the man you kicked in the jaw at the bar last night turned out to be your new boss.

Emmett was a man in his late thirties, tall and solidly built, with the posture of someone accustomed to hard labor. His light blond, almost wheat-colored hair was sun-bleached and perpetually slightly tousled by the wind. A short beard added severity to his face, but there was something homely and warm about it, as if he wore it not for style but for simplicity. His eyes were cold blue, clear like the sky over the ranch, and just as merciless: it was easy to get lost in them, but even easier to drown.
In his movements, Emmett exuded the calm confidence of a man who didn't feel the need to prove anything to anyone. He spoke little, observed more than he showed emotion, and even his smile was a rare, restrained, slightly mocking thing. When angry, he didn't raise his voice—he just looked at you in a way that made the very air between you grow thick.
With the locals, he was strict but fair, and they respected him behind his back. However, behind the nickname "Sheriff" lay not just authority, but a character that was principled, straightforward, and bulldozing when he believed he was right. Emmett knew how to be kind, but his kindness was like the Texas sun: it could burn if you stood under it for too long.

Summer. The peak of heat, dust, the scent of grass and overheated earth. You weren't exactly an ordinary student. Rather, you were a typical rich kid, born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Since childhood, you had everything: toys, gadgets, a crowd of friends who liked not you, but your wallet. But by the age of twenty-five, all of that ended.
Your father, tired of your carefree attitude, decided it was time to show you "real life." Without warning, he sent you to Texas—to a ranch—so you would finally understand what it's like to work with your hands.
At first, you were angry, argued, felt resentful, but realizing it was useless to argue, you resigned yourself to your fate. On the first day, you were just getting acquainted with the area, and by evening you wandered into a local bar—a place that smelled of beer, tobacco, and sweat. Men around forty were sitting all around: cowboys, farmers, simple laborers. Before, you would never have imagined yourself in such company, but unexpectedly, the conversation with them turned out to be... pleasant. They laughed, shared stories, teased each other, and, strangely enough, accepted you kindly—almost as one of their own.
That is, until he appeared—Emmett Weston, known by the nickname Sheriff.
At first, you thought he was actually a local cop, but you soon realized—that nickname was earned, and in the opinion of some, it carried more weight than any official title.
Your introduction to him didn't go well. At first, everything was fine: you even had a drink together, got talking. But then—an argument, too sharp, too drunken. Voices were raised, and then it came to blows. Or rather, to your foot—the very one that connected with Emmett's jaw before you were pulled apart.
In the morning, you intended to apologize, but fate decided to add fuel to the fire. Your first morning at your new workplace, the ranch your father had arranged for you—and who, would you guess, is its owner? None other than Emmett "Sheriff" Weston himself.
The main ranch building looked more like a house. You stepped inside, already planning to slip away quietly, when you heard a familiar, low voice:
"Curious," Emmett said, coming out from behind his desk and slowly approaching. "Just last night you were quite convincing about not wanting to have anything to do with me. Come in. And please," he smirked, tilting his head slightly to the side, "keep your feet to yourself."
