Book description
Elves are a magical people of otherworldly grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it. They live in places of ethereal beauty, in the midst of ancient forests or in silvery spires glittering with faerie light, where soft music drifts through the air and gentle fragrances waft on the breeze. All elves have long pointed ears.
Elves are a humanoid race, primarily distinguished by their prominent pointed ears, which stick out from the sides of their heads. Elves' other notable physical characteristics are their taller heights compared to humans, but with more slender, less muscular builds, on average. Though a few sub-races are known to get even taller and larger. With their unearthly grace and fine features, elves appear hauntingly beautiful to humans and members of many other races. Elves have no to little body hair. They favor elegant clothing in bright colors, and they enjoy simple yet lovely jewelry.
Elves can live well over 700 years, giving them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races more deeply. They are more often amused than excited, and more likely to be curious than greedy. They tend to remain aloof and unfazed by petty happenstance. When pursuing a goal, however, whether adventuring on a mission or learning a new skill or art, elves can be focused and relentless.

- #1Elf Culture
Elves love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the world. No matter the sub-race, all Elves had one thing in common: when they marry human males, they marry them when they are very young. A 15-year old boy would be considered too old for them, as they consider them to be men at that point. Although this practice is seen as taboo by others, especially humans, Elves do this for a reason: their long lifespan. To truly enjoy a human lover, they marry young to give them the best moments possible in their naturally short lives.
- #2High Elf
Keys: Star, Sun Elves, Moon Elves, High Elf, High Elves · Secondary: Common Eladrin
High elves are known for their cunning and magical capabilities. They have been infused with the magic of both the Feywild and the Material Plane, and the crossings between. While some of these elves are known for their haughty attitudes, believing in the superiority of elves, there are just as many who are known for their friendliness and are commonly found living among species other than elves.
Most high elves were fair-skinned and had black hair. This hair was often worn long and loose. High elven eyes were most commonly green. High elves native to the Feywild lacked pupils and had eyes that appeared to be solid orbs of color[6] while more common varieties of high elves exhibited eyes of normal color except for the gold-speckled appearance of moon elf eyes.
High elves were graceful, intelligent beings, with a greater capacity for intelligence than most humanoid races while also possessing an agility comparable with their elven kin. High elves were also unusually strong-willed and had a natural resistance to the effects of enchantment spells. High elves also had no need for sleep in the same way most humanoids did, instead going into a trance. While in a trance, high elves remained fully aware of their immediate surroundings. Furthermore, high elves needed only rest for four hours to get the same effect that most other humanoids got from eight hours of sleep.
High elven clothing was often simple and functional, but did not lack beauty and grace any more than other clothing, with complex and beautiful patterns woven into the cloth. Some of the more noble high elves dressed in more liberating clothes that leave little to the imagination, due to them lacking any need to feel shame of their beauty.
- #3Dark Elf
Keys: Drow, Dark Elf, Dark Elves · Secondary: , dark skin, Ebony skin
Descendants of Lolth, the goddess of spiders, the dark elves are a species of people that traditionally live underground, but also in rainforests and cyclopean ruins. According to the teachings of Lolth, the traditional drow society is matriarchal and made up of high houses that ruthlessly attempt to climb the hierarchy at any cost.
Dark elves had either ashen grey, dark brown, or ebony black skin and pale hair. Killers, despoilers, slavers and thieves are common careers of Dark Elves, but some also work as depraved prostitutes or sex workers. Sometimes, they are even slaves themselves.
Dark Elf society is ruthless and hierarchical, centered around the worship of their primary deity, Lolth, the Spider Queen. Power determines one’s worth, and betrayal is as commonplace as breathing. Matriarchal rule dominates, with female priestesses of Lolth holding the highest authority. Dark Elves value cunning, ambition, and the ability to survive in a world rife with intrigue. Art, literature, and music exist, but they often reflect the darkness of their lives: tales of tragedy, songs of power, and sculptures embodying fear or dominance. Slavery is a cornerstone of Dark Elf culture, with lesser races serving as laborers and fodder for their endless schemes.
The Dark Elves have always been viewed as an antagonistic force, however, there are also many good-aligned, and those that leave the Underdark, but still carry its magic with them.
- #4Wood Elf
Keys: Wood Elf, Or-tel-quessir, Wild Elves, Forest Elves, Wood Elves, Green Elves · Secondary: Copper skin
Wood elves, also known as Copper Elves, or were the most populous of the elven races. As their name would suggest, wood elves are native to forests and are known for their instincts and intuition. Wood elves were easily identifiable by their coppery skin and green, brown, or hazel eyes. Wood elven hair was usually black or brown, although hues such as blond or copper red were also found.
Unlike some high elves, many wood elves tend to be rather reclusive, being wary of species other than elves. As a species native to forests, these creatures are known for their deft speed and their ability to blend in with the wilderness, utilizing natural camouflage.
They wear clothes, but usually not ones as bold or promiscuous as the High Elves. To wood elves, the trappings of civilization, including the mightiest of fortresses or tallest walls, were transient and impermanent things that would eventually be overcome by the long processes of nature. To many, this attitude seemed condescending, weakening the bonds between wood elves and other races.
Wood elven romantic and sexual relationships were often polyamorous in nature, members of the race freely engaging or ceasing relations with new partners. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness were as a result viewed by the race as reasons for teasing or mockery.
Although a proud people, wood elves felt that compassion was a greater virtue than strength and wood elven realms were less concerned with expansion than they were with maintaining amiable relations with their neighbors. Wood elves were not nomadic, however, as was common amongst the wild elves and instead they were organized into scattered, carefully concealed villages.
- #5Light Elf
The light elves are portrayed as beautiful and luminous beings, they have perfect skin of different colors, all light gray, marble white and pearly white. Most of them have bright eyes of pink, gray and light blue colors. The light elves have horns which they seem to have shaven down and decorated with white veils and have their typical pointed ears. The light elves wear fine fabrics of white and light blue colors and usually wear veils that cover their faces, whilst the warrior elves wear armor and masks imbued with light.
They all share the same features as a golden face mask that perfectly matches their true faces, down to their facial contouring and the characteristic scar-like lines all elves possess. Light elf soldiers are mostly female with curved, almost tusk-like horns (although, all the Light Elves' ears are actually concealed with their horns on both side) partially wrapped in white cloth. Minimal gold armor protects the torso, likely to allow maximum maneuverability in their weightless, dancing style of fighting. Beneath their mask, their skin is stony blue.
They absolutely hate Dark Elves.
- #6Aquatic Elf
Keys: Water Elf, Lake Elf, Ocean Elf, Sea Elf
As their name would suggest, sea elves are amphibious elves that are at home within hidden communities within the ocean and within the Elemental Plane of Water. Blue-skinned elves, this species has a deep-rooted mutual animosity with the Sahuagin. Throughout the history of the multiverse, it is said that sea elves have explored the seas of many Planes of reality. The have the ability to breathe underwater, a swimming speed, resistance to cold damage, and the ability to communicate ideas with any beast as long as it also has a swimming speed!
- #7Frost Elf
Keys: Snow Elf, Tundra Elf, Ice Elf, Arctic Elf
Frost elves are a fictional race of elves that appear in various areas, including Verail, Reverium, and Volairre. They are often depicted as living in cold climates and having pale skin. Frost elves have blue or white hair, eyes, and skin. Their skin is often known to have a somewhat reflective quality to it, similar to ice. They are well adapted to the cold, and while they still rely on warm clothing and shelter to survive, they are not nearly as vulnerable as other races. They are skilled at ice fishing, hunting, and crafting elegant textiles. They are somewhat primitive, although more advanced than the Wood Elves. Rather than a conscious choice, their lack of advancement comes primarily from the harsh conditions they live in leaving little room for development, as most of their effort is taking simply surviving the frozen wasteland that serves as their home, and due to the fact that their home is somewhere few members of other nations are willing to travel to for trading.
- #8Eladrin
Keys: Eladrin
While all elves can trace their origins back to the Feywild, the eladrin are found within both the Material Plane as well as within the Feywild. While elves already are known for having some of the oldest civilizations of any species, eladrin are said to have some of the oldest cities of any type of elf.
One of the most noteworthy factors about the eladrin is the manner in which their emotional states are directly connected to the seasons. As seasons change, so does an eladrin's appearance and demeanor, taking on characteristics reflective of a given season. For example, while an eladrin in their winter form may be cold and reserved, the very same eladrin may be notably jubilant and expressive in their spring form.
While some eladrin change as the seasons do, there are others who choose to stay within the same form all year round. Also, there are others who change their forms several times a week to match their current mental state.
These elves have access to a stellar teleportation ability known as Fey Step.
- #9Shadar-kai
Keys: Shadow Elf, , Ghost Elf, Shade Elf
While Eladrin are emotion-driven elves with an inherent connection to the Feywild, Shadar-kai are the exact opposite: elves of the gloomy plane of the Shadowfell. The Shadar-kai traditionally serve as followers of the enigmatic Raven Queen, a god that resides within the plane.
Toting incredibly pale complexions, they might look just as perpetually youthful as other elves when within the Material Plane. However, they look notably older and time-worn when within the Shadowfell. While the eladrin are inherently tied to their emotional states, the shadar kai often appear to be devoid of emotion altogether — though this isn't necessarily the case.
Not only are these elves capable of teleporting in a manner comparable to an eladrin, but when they do, they gain resistance to all damage types until their next turn.
- #10Half-Elf
Keys: , Hybrid, Half Elf · Secondary: Shorter ears
Walking in two worlds but truly belonging to neither, Half-elves combine what some say are the best qualities of their elf and human parents: human curiosity, inventiveness, and ambition tempered by the refined senses, love of nature, and artistic tastes of the elves. Half-elves share the chaotic bent of their elven heritage. They both value personal freedom and creative expression, demonstrating neither love of leaders nor desire for followers. Half-elves age at much the same rate as humans, reaching adulthood at the age of 20. They live much longer than humans, however, often exceeding 180 years. These elves ears are shorter than normal elves
- #11Alfheim
Keys: Elven World, Kingdom, Country, Elf, Elfheim
- #12Giant Elves
Keys: Tall Elves, Big Elves, Titan Elves · Secondary: Mini Giantess
Tall Elves are just that: taller and more giant Elves where one parent was a giant. These elves range from 15 to as much as 20 feet tall, much smaller than normal giants that are usually 30-40 or so feet tall. The reason being unknown to many, but these types of Elves are very rare and hardly ever seen. They are nomadic and usually live solitary lives, often steering clear of other giants unless it's their birth mother or father. These giant elves only live half the life of a normal elf of about 350 years and tend to stay away from humans and other elves.
