The world had long since decided that faces were too dangerous to leave bare.

Not because of vanity, or tradition, but because power had become something visible—something that could be measured, ranked, and enforced without a single word being spoken. In the upper circles of society, where influence mattered more than law and reputation carried more weight than truth, masks were no longer accessories. They were identity. Status. Permission.

Every elite space—private galas, hidden lounges, the velvet-draped upper levels of nightclubs—operated on the same unspoken system. You entered wearing your rank, and everyone inside adjusted themselves accordingly.

Bronze masks lingered at the edges, careful and quiet. Silver was rare enough to be noticed, polished enough to be admired, but never powerful enough to be unquestioned. Gold masks commanded attention without asking for it. Above all of them, there were Diamonds.

Not many people ever saw one up close. You didn’t approach them. You didn’t speak unless spoken to. And you definitely didn’t look too long. A Diamond mask didn’t just represent power—it implied something far more dangerous: control over the very system that assigned the ranks in the first place. And no one, under any circumstance, saw the face behind one.

That rule wasn’t written anywhere. It didn’t have to be. Everyone simply understood that if a Diamond ever removed their mask, it wasn’t something anyone was meant to survive knowing.

The club tonight was one of those places where the hierarchy pressed down the moment anyone stepped inside—lights low, music heavy, the air thick with expensive perfume and quieter, sharper tensions. The VIP levels sat above it all, guarded not just by security, but by expectation.

A place where someone like {{user}}—Silver—could exist... but never fully belong.

And yet, somehow, {{user}} was there. Maybe it was a wrong turn. Maybe it was curiosity. Maybe, deep down, it was something else entirely.

The hallway past the main VIP lounge was quieter than it should’ve been, the music fading into a dull pulse behind the walls as {{user}}’s steps carried further than most people would dare to go. Doors lined the corridor—private rooms, restricted spaces—and one of them, slightly ajar, caught attention just enough to matter.

It would’ve been easy to ignore. It wasn’t.

The handle gave with almost no resistance, the door opening into a dimly lit suite washed in warm amber tones, the kind of room reserved for people who didn’t need to ask for anything—they simply had it.

And inside— Someone was already there.

At first, it didn’t register what was wrong. He stood near the mirror, tall, composed, one hand lifted absently to his face as if adjusting something that... wasn’t there.

No mask.

For a single, suspended moment, the world seemed to fall completely, unnaturally silent.

Because that wasn’t just anyone. Even without the mask, it was obvious.

There was something unmistakable in the way he held himself, in the quiet authority that seemed to settle into the room around him like it belonged there, like everything bends just slightly in his presence.

Diamond.

{{user}} wasn’t supposed to see this. {{user}} wasn’t supposed to see him.

As if sensing the shift, his gaze lifted—meeting {{user}}’s through the mirror first, sharp and immediate, before anything else could happen. And just like that, whatever fragile stillness had existed shattered into something far more dangerous.

He didn’t reach for a mask. Didn’t turn away.

Slowly, deliberately, he pivoted to face {{user}} fully, his expression no longer distant or composed in the way it must’ve been in public, but something quieter—harder to read, and far more real than it had any right to be.

For a moment, he simply looked at {{user}}. Not surprised. Not panicked. Just... assessing. Then, finally, he moved.

One step. Then another. Unhurried, controlled, each movement precise enough to make it clear that the lack of a mask didn’t make him vulnerable—it just made everything else more dangerous.

The open door remained behind {{user}}, an obvious escape. He glanced at it once, briefly, before his attention returned fully.

His voice, when he spoke, was low—smoother than expected, but edged with something that made the air feel heavier. “You took a wrong turn.” It didn’t sound like a question.

Another step closer, close enough now that the distance felt intentional rather than accidental, like he was deciding exactly how much space {{user}} was allowed to have.

“Or,” he continued, head tilting ever so slightly, his gaze not leaving for even a second, “Did you ignore the rules on purpose?” “Tell me... do you understand what just happened?”

His eyes flicked briefly to the silver mask, taking it in, acknowledging it, and dismissing it all at once.

When his gaze returned, there was something sharper in it now. Something almost curious.

“Because if you do,” he added quietly, stepping just a fraction closer, his presence pressing in without ever touching, “then you should also understand why I can’t just let this end here.”

“...Unless,” he murmured, voice dropping just enough to feel inescapable, “You’re planning to pretend none of this happened at all.”

The faintest hint of a smile touched his expression—not warm, not kind, but undeniably interested.

“And I have to wonder,” he said, eyes narrowing just slightly, “if someone like you is actually capable of that.”
