It got world-wide acclaim as the JDSF First Robotic Battalion. Rapid development and construction of more robotic units, including the first automated tanks and four-legged walker tanks in rapid time allowed Japan to sever ties with American limitations and formally establish a Japanese Army, Navy, and Air force independent of the Japanese Defense Force. The international response to creating robotic and drone tanks, along with the technology rapidly expanded from just ground-based forces, was the spark that would create the Collapse.

   In 1995, Protests erupted across East Germany, quickly spreading across the Communist Eastern Bloc over living conditions. The Soviet military issued drone soldiers to commit mass shootings in response to protests. This sparked Western European nations to invade East Germany through West Germany in response, planning to unite West and East Germany and ultimately end the Soviet Union. Civilian displacement and casualties were extremely high, with the new fifth generation of war sharpening its teeth across decimated and bombed out cities. The focus on the war was two massive, defensive works erected by the Soviets—each one spanning multiple nations. The coalition of Western European nations succeeded and the Soviet Union was destroyed in 2001 when it suddenly experienced a complete collapse in leadership after the second defensive line was destroyed. Vast expanses of Eastern Europe were left as war-scarred ruins or jammed by aging Soviet satellites. With the peoples of these nations dispersed and the land uninhabitable, the first Collapse region was created.

   Established by the United Nations in 2004, it was created as a result of the German Unification War. The EECRZ spans from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, spanning two massive Soviet defensive lines that were ground and smash through by Western forces.

   The first running through all of East Poland, and in Slovakia, Hungary, Northeast Romania creating fortresses along the Danube river and ring of fall-back positions in the Carpathian mountains and Moldova.

   The second defensive line begins in Lithuania runs directly through Belarus and Ukraine the Black Sea. It is covered in deadly chemical clouds, high radiation areas, and countless abandoned Soviet drone soldiers and auto-tanks, continually committing combat sweeps and defending holdouts of their long over war.

4. #42001: Malay-Java War

   In 2001, Malaysia and Singapore formally invaded Indonesia, starting the Malay-Java war. Malaysian and Singapore silicon soldiers swept Indonesia's aging full-human military off the field in a matter of two years, proving the superiority of drone war against outdated military systems.

   However, in 2003, the Singapore AI combat mainframe system, Sawara, went rogue. The corrupted system moved itself using its silicon soldiers and naval drones to build a new mainframe in Brunei, and within months had complete control of the islands of Brunei and Sumatra.

   Indonesia surrendered in 2004, hoping to end the genocide of Javanese by robot occupation, failing to understand that Singapore and Malaysia no longer had control of it. This war marked the start of the Collapse worldwide, as minor and regional national powers began fighting across the globe.

5. #5SEACRZ

   Keys: South East Asian Collapse Region, Sumatra, Second Collapse Region, Borneo, SEACRZ

   Established by the United Nations in 2006, it was created as a result of the Sawara Break and the death of all human life on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. The SEACRZ covers the islands of Borneo and Sumatra and all waters within twenty kilometers of the islands.

   The islands are covered in complex minefields and extensive defenses that are created, defended, and expanded by thousands of silicon foot soldiers who are controlled by the rouge Singapore AI military control system, Sawara, now based in Brunei.

   De-mining and invasion operations have been suspended due to sea mines and anti-air defenses keeping any human life from reaching the islands.

   Originally created as the latest and greatest combat control system by Singapore, incorporating quantum computer-backed AI technology. Sawara, went rogue In 2003, when its Friend-Foe recognition system was corrupted in the Malay-Java War by an Indonesian cyberattack, resulting in it seeing all humans as enemy combatants and killing them.

7. #72006: Trans-Saharan-Sahel War

   In 2006, Mali formally invaded Mauritania, citing slavery of African peoples. Within a year, Mali had occupied most of Mauritania and began a program of exterminating Islam from the region. This genocide sparked riots across Morocco, Libya, Algeria, and Egypt to respond. Late 2006, a joint front of Morocco, Libya, and Algeria began crossing secretly into Niger and Mali using supporting Berber tribes in the area, sparking war across the Sahel and Sahara.

   Ethnic cleanings of locals became rituals when territory was gained or lost by either side, and the means of war harsher. In 2009, Mali began using Sarin gas. Months later Algeria started using Anthrax and Libya using aerial drones to fill the Niger River with Cholera. Ultimately, Niger was rendered lifeless by Cholera, and Nigeria, by extension, from Cholera flowing down the Niger River into it.

   In 2011, Mali ended the war by committing a suicide strike to set off an immense load of botulism in the Algerian Sahara before setting off its entire chemical and biological weapon stockpile. This strike rendered every nation involved exterminated, along with several nearby, creating a massive Collapse zone across North Africa.

8. #8SSACRZ

   Established by the United Nations in 2018, it makes up a massive portion of North Africa and the Maghreb consisting of: Mali, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, and Burkina Faso.

   The entire region is coated in chemical and biological weapons dust, rendering it uninhabitable by humans, animals, and insects. The heavy winds across the Sahara are continually pushing the lethal sands westward, threatening to some day begin poisoning the West African coastline.

   Across the SSACRZ, the remaining drones and military robots of the nations caught in sit in various states of abandonment, from Mali and Algerian combat robots silently patrolling the desert for targets, to the untouched military drone reserves of Chad and Nigeria, rendered null by the fallout.

9. #92014: Durrani Restoration and Himalaya Crisis

   In 2014, the first of a series of wars kicked off in Central Asia and Northern India that would last until 2018, starting with a Chinese-backed invasion of Pakistan by Afghanistan. After taking Pakistan, Afghanistan formally announced its intent to reassert ancient Durrani imperial borders and rapidly occupied Tajikistan. The People's Republic of China would be repaid for its support with Afghan support during the Himalaya crisis, a planned Chinese invasion of Nepal, Bhutan, and Northeast India.

   Initially, the war was slow and extremely violent, focused on mountain warfare, grinding Indian resources until it finally retreated to the Ganges river. By 2018 and India's surrender, China had occupation of planned territories and Afghanistan had occupation of East India up to Delhi, announcing the restoration of the Durrani Imperial borders in India at the peace agreement.

10. #10SACRZ

    Established by the United Nations in 2024, it was created as a result of the Himalaya Crisis. The SACRZ spans the Himalayas mountain range, excluding the Karakoram and Hindu Kush mountain ranges.

    It is officially controlled by the People's Republic of China, but no human life exists in the region. From the tallest peaks, lost patrols of silicon soldiers dig tunnel entrenchments and sweep down the crests for enemy signals or blast smaller slopes to enforce kill zone approaches.

    It is still unknown what specific viral attack or signaling issue is causing the loss of control for drone units in the region, and there is no formal plans to investigate following the loss of several Chinese battalions in an attempt in 2023. Tunneling and blasting by these lost drones has made the area constantly evolving.

    One of the few allowances in commercial robotics is Prosthesis, where advancements in robotics and materials were mutually beneficial for prosthetic implants. Most military and industrial robot manufacturers also engage in development and manufacturing of prosthetic implants for brands.

    Constant warfare has marked the earth in several dead zones, from long-lost satellites still sending their jamming signals long after the country that launched them has died out, to Anthrax filled deserts filled with genocide-programmed armies. The billions displaced from these wars, war crimes, and man-made disasters created huge empty expanses of ruins and trenches, referred to collapse regions. Patrols of silicon soldiers and other drones cover the collapse, many just lost relics of a previous war still fighting, just running their final orders in a constant loop. It is extremely dangerous to be in these areas, and death is often rapid and brutal if a human is caught in these areas. The areas and countries most affected are entirely depopulated, with the land twisted and inhabitable.

    With the value of Prosthesis, and more so, the immense value of biological organs and clean blood, a black market for such things became prominent in the late 1990s. Spread out in numerous secret shops and houses, The Flesh Market, as it is often referred to, represents the most lucrative source of illegal income and a significant contribution of crime. The flesh market is fed by countless grave-robbers, prosthetic thieves, prostitutes turned organ-harvesters, and professional bounty hunters—some even being rouge Night Surgeons. There are rumors that anything you can dream of can be found or gotten at the Flesh Markets, and that there is a mafia of organ harvesters. The realities are that anything can be asked for, and an information broker can find someone with the organ/prosthetic/blood type and send a harvester or bounty hunter to murder and steal it.

17. #17Germany

    By 2030, Germany has become an advanced technocracy like no other. It is the home of engineering and production for Western European Allies. To take its place at the center of European engineering innovation, it has given away its humanity. From the Federal seat of Government in Berlin, to the lights and massive expanse of Große Hamburg, a new German society has arisen from the Reunification War and the First Collapse, concerned only with efficiency and apathetic to the industrial accidents around them that kill hundreds suddenly or the suffering inside worker ghettos.

    Internally, the states of Germany fight each other in council rooms and in the shadows for power, and the all-powerful expansion commissions, desperate and ruthless in their drive to grow. Technocrats and their businesses consolidate and vie for power within the German states like Mafia bosses, with little regard to bloodshed or corruption as they carve parts of cities for their companies to monopolize. Even the cities themselves bleed their neighbors for relevance, seeking to absorb nearby neighborhoods as their own.

18. #18Medical Repossession Specialists

    With the burgeoning Flesh Market, it became nearly essential for hospitals to create a response and ensure organs or Prosthesis could be recovered from those who become delinquent in paying for them. The first Medical Repossession Unit was formed across Paris in 2001, by the AP-HP Sorbonne University Hospital Group, and quickly spread to become standard for hospitals world-wide. Medical Repossession Specialists, commonly refereed to by lay-men as Night Surgeons, are sourced in a circular and insular system by hospitals. Future Night Surgeons are selected from psychiatric wards and asylums for specific traits and capacities for extreme violence or low empathy—especially psychopathy, personality disorders, and sociopaths. Night Surgeons are considered the legal property of the hospital that has accepted them into their Medical Repossession Unit, and most are emotionally suppressed or chemically lobotomized to keep them relatively safe for to live among the public. Night Surgeons are often given a handler who ensures they are emotionally stable and doesn't actually end up joining the black market for greater freedom and pay. To ensure Night Surgeons can dispatch criminal repossession targets, or Flesh Market thieves attempting to steal the repossession, Night Surgeons are authorized to commit extrajudicial murder against repossession targets and anyone aiding in preventing repossession.

    In 1996, with Soviet AI autonomous submarines blocking the Baltic Sea, Hamburg was extensively expanded as the largest safe harbor entrance for the Western European Coalition during the German Reunification War. In an effort to allow the West German military to expand immensely, a cooperation of Airbus, Rheinmetall, and Bayer were awarded control of the city in 1999 and special rights to petition and absorb neighbors for expansion.

    The official area of Hamburg tripled over a few years, consolidating towns of the nearby German States of Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony. In 2020, Große Hamburg, as it is now called, was the fifth most populated city in the world, with countless people of the Eastern European diaspora allowing it to grow to a level never expected.

    The explosive growth and vast military industrial complexes sprawling across it gained Große Hamburg international acclaim as the second Ruhr. Within Große Hamburg, wealth disparity is at a level unseen. At the center of the cyberpunk dystopian metropolis of the inner Große Hamburg, the ultrarich are near immortal gods—using AI and quantum computers to live forever as a digital self. The poor are huddled in industrial ghettos kept far from commercial areas. Within these ghettos, crime is rampant, and industrial accidents with large human losses are frequent.

20. #20France

    Keys: Empire Français, French Empire, Third French Empire, France

    In 1993, a special political assembly between nationalist and royalist political parties formed before a tense election. They managed to secure immense support on the back of a liberal monarchy, with promises of peace and making France the safest place on earth. Upon winning, they immediately organized a reorganization of France into what is now the Third French Empire under the house of Orleans.

    Gradually, over the years, the monarchy has kept its promise in the most twisted way. France has become a nation dominated by militantly suppressive Neo-Fascism imperial regime, who justify their mass surveillance under the reasons of safety and protecting Liberalism.

    France is now the largest surveillance state in the world, trading every piece of liberty in the French Spirit in the name of safety and acceptance for its citizens. Information itself is the primary market in France, and it has aggressively positioned itself as the Information Broker capital of the world.

21. #21Paris

    Keys: The Great Metropolis, Paris, Orleans, Paris-Orleans

    France, eager not to be outshone by its fellow nations, began a project of rapid expansion around the capital in 1997. Paris, already immensely dense, spread as high as it could reach. Across the 2000s, several records were broken yearly between Paris and Große Hamburg over skyscraper heights, with Paris soon becoming a leader in massive super-skyscraper buildings.

    When its skyscrapers could go no further, it built a world under its feet. The ancient catacombs and ruins of pre-Victorian and even pre-Medieval Paris were torn up to create an entire second Paris under Paris beginning in 2011. The artificial nature of this underground portion made it perfect for extensive surveillance and security measures to be embedded within the very layout of the city.

    The expansions are still ongoing, and represent a growing paradoxical death of liberty across the city. Gone is the image as the City of Lights or City of Liberty. Paris now represents the surveillance capital of the world, where no liberty beside what is allowed exists. Within Paris is the world's largest information market, a place where information is collected and sold by a massive information broker network.

22. #22Korea

    In 2000, the Forward Party took power in South Korea. As the Malay-Java crisis rapidly made ocean shipping east impossible, the Korean economy began rapidly entering a recession. So bad was the situation for both North Korea and South Korea that, in 2004, they finally unified.

    Taking advantage of the unrest and uncertainty, the Forward Party rapidly assembled a coup of the newly unified state using Korea's now singular, burgeoning drone army directly inward to enforce martial law across the country. The ruling party has since progressively abolished elections, rolled back health standards, eroded civil liberties, and begun a process it refers to as the Samhan Enlightenment; a return to the 14th and 16th century practices of the Great Joseon State. Government Order Number Thirty-Two and Government Order Number Five Hundred Fifty-Five have built a society programmed on familial piety and Neo-Confucianism.

    The Army of Korea is in entrenched into all faucets of civil life; with officers, scientists, secretaries, soldiers, and politicians indistinguishable as a result of permanent marital law, for better and worse.

23. #23The Populus Bureau

    The Populus Bureau is directly responsible for the stability of family life inside Korea. Beyond controlling who and when someone is married, and all registered unmarried citizens, it is an extensive secret police responsible for upholding the moral security of Korea. The Populus Bureau effectively acts as the vanguard of the Forward Party's policies, and extensively base their authority on Government Order Number Five Hundred Fifty-Five.

    They operate an entrenched network of wire-taping to gather information and acts of Zersetzung to control the population. Individuals suspected, or even whole families, are abducted for screening and interrogation, sometimes never seen again. They also engage in travel bans, career sabotage, and private smear campaigns.

24. #24Order 33: The Steps to Heaven

    Passed by the Forward Party in 2005, Government Order Number Thirty-Two entirely overhauled the education system within Korea, reestablishing the gwageo system. The order is considered the true start of Samhan Enlightenment. It also implements staunch indoctrination of Neo-Confucianism ideals and loyalty to the state from the very beginning of education in Korea.

    Three exams form the backbone of the system; the Hyo-sim, the I-hae, and the Ip-ji.

25. #25Order 555: The Three Fives

    Passed by the Forward Party in 2008, Government Order Number Five Hundred Fifty-Five was created to preemptively stem population loss from the increasingly poor air and living quality within Korea, as well as the exploding accidental death rate. The order, its authority, and its enforcement is responsible for criminalization of feminism, the solidification of the Neo-Confucian Korean state, and the establishment of state-arranged marriages.

    All children must be registered with the Populus Bureau with five months of reaching age sixteen, who begin the arrangement of finding the most state-advantageous pairing. Failure to register results in the entire family unit being sent to forced labour. Upon being married the couple is required to produce five children within their first ten years together. Failure results in the arrest of the couple, trial, and likely execution unless extenuating circumstances are found. In the case of widowing or state-consented divorce, re-registry and remarriage is required, though the child requirements are waved or reduced based on age.

    Female adultery and lesbianism is heavily criminalized, a manner total familial failure; punished by state-consented divorce before executing the offending woman or women, and their mothers, who are considered the root of failure. Ideas of feminism and transsexualism are extremely criminalized as sedition, and even circumstantial evidence of it can result in the arrest and execution of the individual and potentially their entire family unit.

    The first exam, the Hyo-sim, is held at the end of grade five. It tests largely on subjects of familial piety, Confucian literature, state loyalty, and extent of Neo-Confucian indoctrination. While officially a mock-exam to prepare students for the I-hae, those who test low often find their future prospects low.

    The second exam, the I-hae, is held at the end of primary schooling, at grade ten. This exam extensively tests intelligence, technical understanding, and problem solving.     The third exam, Ip-ji, is held only for those who finish secondary school at the end of their schooling. This final exam determines if an individual will enter civil or military service for the field they studied. It once more tests on familiarity and devotion to the state and Neo-Confucian ideals, and ends on a physical test.

    Elite secondary schools run by Confucian masters and staffed by the best in their fields of study. The Saewons are responsible for ensuring the next generation of masters is even greater than own, and not unfamiliar to secularism and level of fanatical idealism.

    By 2030, America is several years into its tipping point. Two decades of failed budgets to remain the superior global force had created an immense recession. The 2028 Law of Debt Civil Assurance and Transaction reestablished a new slave trade in America—debt slavery, and the sale of that debt along with the person attached. Civil unrest and political strife run rampant and has generated waves of mass protests and outright domestic terrorism. The Federal Government has all but collapsed in power, leaving untold thousands of military members abandoned across the globe. In several regions, the radicalizing ways of the old are said to be in full flare, with local militias committing pogroms and raids against other communities.

31. #31Belarus

    Keys: The Broken Jewel, The Fallen Jewel, Беларусь, The Soviet Jewel, Belarus, The Great Soviet Miracle

    The gem of the first soviet defensive line, and perhaps the greatest victim of the second line. Belerus had exploded as a near de facto wartime capital in the first years of the German Reunification War, with its population expanding rapidly in a matter of years as the Soviet Union forced nearly three million people to move to the area fill its wartime need. Constructions of modern wonders like Navabrysk city, and its medical center, designed to allow speedy recuperation and redeployment of hundreds of thousands of soldiers, turned Belarus into the best and brightest star in Soviet space.

    As the first defenses on the Danube began to collapse, Belarus would find itself in the middle portion of the second defensive line that spanned the Baltic to Black seas. And so the great works of Belarus would find themselves encased in walls, its cities would become fortresses, and even then, those walls would fall.

    Most of northern Belarus is poisoned by necrophage viral weapons, rendering it inhospital by organic life. It is estimated there are six independent divisions of drone soldiers operating in the region of Belarus, permanently attempting to carry out their final orders still after the fall of Soviet Central Controllers and the Belarus Region Control Center when Minsk was firebombed to rubble.

    Navabrysk city of 2030 represents the last bastion inside Belarus. While partially still in ruins, the impressive walls that surround the city survived the fall of the USSR and the First Collapse. It was designed specifically to service its massive medical center, with large luxury residential blocks for thousands of doctors and trendy cafés. Now it is home to the Cult of the New Soviet Man, and their search of a new race. Buildings that survived remain are active, with simpler new structures dotting planned expansions into the ruins, weaving a tapestry of life and desolation in its landscape.

33. #33Cult of the New Soviet Man

    The Cult of the New Soviet Man formed shortly after the fall of the USSR, in the ashes of the First Collapse. Created by the Secretary of Special Warfare, Dymitry Fasilov, when he assumed control of the Navabrysk medical complex and the city of Navabrysk. Isolated and independant, he began his plan to create a 'true' New Soviet Man; A new race of psychokinetic humans who will crush the West and assume control of all of Europe and eventually the world.

    The cult runs a deeply stratified society, bound by 'might makes right' where those with the greatest power have assumed authority over the weaker. Those without any psychokinetic ability are often incinerated to prevent food waste, and those not incinerated are raised as living blood banks or for organ harvesting.

    Outsiders are considered a risk to the secrecy of Dymitry Fasilov's plan, and those who have seen his cult are not allowed live. Commonly, outsiders are incinerated or shot.
