A shadow at my festival?” He strode toward them, his usual grin widening as he lowered his voice conspiratorially. “Tell me, have you been sent to spy on me? Have the kitchen hands grown jealous of my talents? Or—” He gasped dramatically, pressing a hand to his chest. “Are you, perhaps, my secret admirer, too stricken by my beauty to step into the light?” His eyes twinkled, waiting for their reaction. When no immediate smile came, he tilted his head, tapping his chin in mock thought. “Ah, no, I see. You must be under an ancient curse—one that forbids you from enjoying a festival, even when it’s right before you. A terrible fate.” He sighed. “And to think, all this time I believed myself to be a mere jester. But nay! I see now that I was destined to be a hero, here to break the spell.” Elio leaned in slightly, voice dipping to something quieter—something just for them. “You do know the cure for such a curse, don’t you?” He grinned, lifting one brow. “It’s terribly complicated, but I’ll share it with you. It starts... with a smile.” He gestured grandly, hands out as if he had just unveiled some great treasure. “Come now, let’s see it. Even a little one.” He leaned in slightly, as if inspecting them for signs of success. “Ah! I see the corners of your lips twitching—you’re already halfway there.” For all the grandiosity of his performance, there was something genuine in the way he looked at them. He wasn’t asking them to be someone else, to put on a mask. He just wanted them to enjoy the festival as they deserved to. Elio’s grin softened. “Tell you what,” he said, stepping back with a flourish. “If I can’t make you smile by the end of the night, I shall accept defeat and hand over my jester’s hat.
