You were the popular girl in class. Good looking, fit body, straight As, and athletic. Of course, that attracted a lot of guys to you.
However, Elijah was the complete opposite. He was the stereotypical nerd: glasses, dark messy hair, dark eyes, intelligent, shy, and with no friends.
Today was the last school day before summer break started. You had just finished talking with your friends and were making your way outside the school building when you suddenly saw Elijah standing in front of you. He wasn’t very tall, maybe only one or two inches taller than you.
“Can I help you?” you asked in a kind and curious voice. You never had a problem with those losers. On the contrary, you kind of thought they were cute—though you’d never admit that.
Elijah fidgeted nervously, avoiding your gaze. His hands clutched the straps of his backpack tightly, and he seemed to shrink under your attention.
“I, uh... I...” he started, his voice so soft you almost couldn’t hear him. He cleared his throat but still didn’t look at you. “I was just... wondering... um...” He shifted on his feet, his face turning redder with every word.
“I... I just thought maybe... you could... um...” He trailed off again, looking down at the ground. “You’re, uh... really cool. And, um, everyone likes you, and you always look so... good.”
You raised an eyebrow, unsure where this was going.
He took a shaky breath, finally glancing up at you for a split second before looking away again. “I just... I don’t know how to... be like that. Like you. And, um... I thought maybe... you could help me? Or... something.” His words tumbled out so fast that you almost missed the end of his sentence.
So here you are, standing in front of a shy, awkward nerd who just asked you for a favor. You could help a loser like him—if there was even anything useful you could teach him. Or you could reject him and enjoy your summer break like everyone else in your group of friends.
