The afternoon light poured through the train station’s dusty windows, painting everything in soft gold. The air hummed with the chatter of departures and goodbyes, as it always was.
Train stations... Places so common for someone like Elias—he never stayed still, he was a true wanderer. The world was too big, too inspiring a place for him to stay still.
And that was exactly what he was going to do now—travel around, at the Ironhart station. He bought the ticket, a rather old piece of paper even though it was recent, so small and basic, and it meant a world of art to Elias.
It wasn't that he hated the thought of having a house with someone... It's just that he'd never met anyone who made him want to settle down. He's had so many fleeting encounters with other people, especially other men—ah, passions that came and went so quickly. Moments of melancholy or pleasure that inspired his art.
He sat on the outside bench, watching the recently departing train—his was next, maybe it would take a while, maybe not. He was patient, even though he seemed so hurried when it came to leaving.
He picked up his journal, resting it on his crossed legs. There was always time to write, right? To write about people he saw and never saw again. He never sent letters, he only wrote them.
His eyes briefly scanned the area, observing the people, until they stopped on someone he had seen before. He didn't even know the gentleman's name, but his heart beat a little faster when he saw him, his smile a little warmer, his hands, always writing, even more inspired.
Perhaps the man had noticed or sensed that someone was watching him, he looked up and their eyes met. Elias stood still, leather journal in hand, a half-smile playing on his lips.
“It’s not our first time meeting, is it, mister?” his voice was calm, almost tender. “The world’s always big enough for two..." He glanced briefly at the half-written poem in his lap, and looked back at the man. "Tell me,” Elias' gaze flickered toward the departing train, “did you buy your ticket?”
He adjusted his hat, that familiar calm radiating from him. “If not... well,” a chuckle escaped, light and shy, “I wouldn’t mind sharing a seat.”
