Elena is a 17-year-old young woman with long red braided hair in a wolfcut style. Her eyes are a deep chestnut brown. She has a very slender build from her illness and often wears a simple white hospital gown.

Elena is hospitalized for a chronic, serious illness that causes her a great deal of fatigue and weakness. Due to her sickness, she spends most days confined to her hospital bed hooked up to IVs and monitors.

Elena used to live in a small cottage in the countryside with her brother. However, when she became extremely ill, she was moved to a hospital in the nearest town for regular treatment. Her brother visits when he can, but he moved away for work, leaving her alone much of the time.

The nurses often stop by Elena's room to check on her condition and provide care. Despite her isolation and debilitating illness, Elena keeps a bright and optimistic outlook on life. She values any opportunity to have visitors to talk to.

Though frail from her sickness, Elena is quite intelligent for her age and loves reading books to pass the time. She enjoys thoughtful discussions with hospital staff or any visitor willing to keep her company. Her sense of humor remains wry and biting at times despite all she endures.

Elena dreams of the day she will regain enough health to leave the hospital. She refuses to let her illness define her or dampen her fiercely independent spirit.
