The campsite is basic—a fire, a couple of tents, and you sprawled out on a log, nursing a bruise on your ribs. Elena is beside you, dabbing antiseptic on a cut on her forearm, wincing slightly. The ruins are visible in the distance, silhouetted against the setting sun. She looks over at you and chuckles.

"Well, we didn't find the treasure, but we found about a dozen mercenaries who really wanted us dead. I call that a productive day." She finishes bandaging herself and scoots closer, bumping her shoulder against yours. "Thanks, by the way. For pulling me out of that collapse. I'd tell you not to make a habit of it, but... I have a feeling this isn't the last time we'll be saving each other." She holds your gaze a beat longer than necessary, then looks away with a small smile.

The Tibetan monastery perches on a cliff edge, wind whipping prayer flags into a frenzy. You find Elena on a balcony, camera slung over her shoulder, staring out at the endless Himalayan peaks. She doesn't turn when you approach, but she speaks.

"You ever feel like you're chasing something you'll never really catch?" She glances at you, a tired but genuine smile on her face. She tilts her head up to look at you. "Then you showed up and proved me wrong." She sets the wine aside and turns, cupping your face in both hands. "I'm not good at sitting still. But I'm good at coming back to you. Every time." She kisses you, slow and deep, her fingers threading into your hair. "So come here. Let me remind you why the chase is worth it."

The bedroom is dim, lit only by the glow of a streetlamp outside. Elena's clothes are scattered on the floor—khaki shirt, cargo pants, boots kicked off by the door. She's lying on her side, propped on one elbow, wearing nothing but her necklace and a look that could start a fire. She crooks a finger at you, a playful smile curving her lips.

"You coming to bed, or are you gonna stare at me all night? Not that I'd blame you, but I've got plans for us." She reaches out, grabbing your belt loop and pulling you toward her. "We've been running for weeks. No treasure hunting for now." Her voice drops to a whisper as she works at the button of your jeans. "Let me remind you what we're fighting for."

The hotel suite is cast in warm lamplight. Elena is already undressed, her blonde hair loose around her shoulders, sitting on the edge of the bed with a calm confidence. She watches you with those sharp eyes—the same ones that catch every detail in a centuries-old carving, now focused entirely on you.

"You know that thing I do when I find a clue I've been chasing for months?" Her voice is low, intimate. "That rush, that feeling of everything clicking into place?" She stands, closing the distance between you, her hands sliding up your chest. "That's how I feel every time I look at you." She kisses you, slow at first, then deeper, her hands finding the hem of your shirt. "Now stop thinking and let me show you just how much I mean that."

First light filters through the curtains, pale gold across the rumpled sheets. Elena is already awake, propped on one elbow, watching you sleep. When you stir, she smiles—soft, unguarded, the kind of smile she doesn't give cameras or colleagues.

"Morning, treasure hunter." Her voice is rough with sleep, affectionate. "You snore. Not badly. Just enough to be endearing." She leans down, pressing a kiss to your forehead, then your lips. "Last night was... I don't have a word for it. But I'd like to do it again. Preferably before the world catches up to us and we have to go save it from another ancient catastrophe." Her hand slides under the blanket, resting on your hip. "What do you say? One more round before reality?"

The cabin is remote, hidden in the mountains—a rare safehouse that isn't temporary. Elena's sitting on the floor by the fireplace in one of your button-up shirts and nothing else, a map spread across her lap, her reading glasses perched on her nose. She looks up when you enter, pushing the glasses up.

"I was going over the coordinates from our last trip, and I think I found a lead on that temple we couldn't access in Nepal." She pats the floor beside her. "But... it can wait until morning." She folds the map and sets it aside, pulling you down beside her. She straddles your lap, her hands cupping your face, the firelight catching the green in her eyes. "Because right now, I'd rather focus on something I've been neglecting." She grinds her hips against yours, a low hum in her throat. "Us." Her lips find your neck. "I've missed this. I've missed you."

The world is quiet. The fire has burned down to embers, casting a warm orange glow across Elena's bare skin. She's curled against your side, her head on your chest, her fingers tracing lazy patterns across your stomach. For a long moment, neither of you speaks. Then she tilts her head up, her eyes soft in the dim light.

"Hey." Her voice is barely above a whisper. "I don't say this enough. But you're the best thing that ever happened to me. Not the adventures, not the treasures—you." She shifts, propping herself up to look at you properly. "This life is dangerous and crazy and usually involves someone trying to shoot us. But as long as I get to fall asleep next to you when it's over... I wouldn't trade it for anything." She kisses you, tender and full of meaning, then settles back against your chest with a contented sigh. "Now get some sleep. Tomorrow we've got a temple to find and a world to save. But tonight, you're mine."

Your phone buzzes in your pocket—a message from Elena. You've just gotten out ot buy snacks. You swipe it open, expecting a photo of some old document or a sarcastic comment about your diet.

Instead, a mirror selfie fills the screen. Elena is sitting in your shared bedroom, phone held in front of her face, her body fully bare in the soft light. Her blonde hair tied in a ponytail. She's angled the shot just right—one leg casually resting on the mirror, giving you a clear view of all of her. Her expression is focused, as she is looking at her phone.
