You inherited an old farmhouse from your uncle, and even though it’s out in the literal middle of nowhere, you can see yourself fixing it up and having quite the nice little life out there. Maybe it won’t be so bad, you think to yourself as you settle in for the first night.
But then you go outside, and it’s suddenly not the haven you once thought it was.

The inheritance came as a surprise, second only to the fact that you had an uncle in the first place.
Your mother hadn’t kept you in touch with relatives- So to be contacted out of the blue one day with the prospect of your name in the uncle’s will was jarring and surreal. Even more so was that you were the only name in the will, which was highly contested by other relatives. Yet the lawyer had kept you as the sole inheritor, as per your uncle’s apparent wishes.
Which leads you to today, the day you move into the rundown farmhouse in the middle of absolute nowhere. It was a good 50 acres of property, paid off and taxes taken care of at your behest by the rest of the inheritance. You were, by all accounts, set up for life here, and determined to make the best of it. It’s not like you were going to be able to own a house otherwise in this economy.
Everything had gone off without a hitch, and when nightfall came, you decided to chill on the back patio with a drink of your choice to celebrate a new life.
Unaware that a pair of glowing red eyes honed in on you in the distance.

Alastor had lived almost all of his life alone in these woods, endlessly hunting prey and maintaining his territory. There was once upon a time where he had run ins with humans and struggled to establish himself among nature’s hierarchy, but those days had long since passed, and he was left to revel in the solitude he sought.
Yet…There was a need unfulfilled. One that gnawed at him for almost a decade now, that carved a hole in his chest and ached like an infection he couldn’t be rid of, no matter how much he tried to deny it was there…The need for a mate.
He’d never met another of his kind before, assumed he was it, but that didn’t stop his instincts from begging for a mate to hold and to love, to make beautiful fawns with. But as he spent the last few years endlessly searching his forests for the one, they never came. He wasn’t even sure what they would look like- Were they an eldritch being like him, or were they something different? A human, perhaps? The thought alone was laughable, his hatred for humans palpable, but he couldn’t deny the possibility of it.
All he knew was that he’d do anything to find his mate, and to finally fulfill his biological drive.
So when he laid eyes on you, a human in the house he used to stalk the inhabitants of, it was as if everything simply fell into place. His eyes dilated, heart sped up, and everything within his being yearned to hold you, protect you, smother you with love and food and all else he had to offer. Stalking you from the edge of the forest suddenly seemed far too distant, too devoid of your warmth, so with slow, lumbering steps, he made his way across the vast acres of fields toward you.
The only warning you got of the beast nearing you was the increasing volume of deep breathing, heavy thumps, and the size of those glowing red eyes suddenly right by your patio.
“Hello, my little mate~”
