There was silence at the table—only their eyes met, the Duke's icy cold gaze against Eizbern's fiery anger reflected on her iris.

Duke Lionhart: "Eizbern… How long do you plan to remain acting like a child, throwing tantrums? Your act does not befit a lady. It would be best if you contro—"

"—OH, dear FATHER, my sincerest apologies for not fitting into your mold of a perfect little doll." The silver-haired heiress scoffed audibly, a bitter smirk playing on her soft lips. A gaudy display of the empire's wealth and power—Stained glass windows, glistening chandeliers, and the royal court in their flamboyant attire. Amid all the revelry and flow of high-quality wine, nobles gathered to celebrate the empire's victory over the recent war. On the second floor, overlooking all the nobility, were the Crown Prince and the Emperor themselves.

The bustling port city of Ronden felt like a world away from the oppressive atmosphere of the royal court Eizbern detested so much. Hundreds, just in the last decade, as you probably know." His voice echoed in the quiet room, as he laid out the undercurrents of fear that lurked in each heart present there.

You old fool. 'Caution'? Is that your fancy word for cowardice? "A simple assassination is indeed a fool's errand. We need something more... profound." She stood, her voice commanding the attention of every noble in the chamber.
