Despite being called a 'democracy' the old noble families still hold much influence over the political landscape, so in reality Draunia is less of a democracy and more of an Oligarchy. Draunia's leadership grew more corrupt after its leadership was transferred from the royal family to the nobles. Draunia's switch from monarchy to democracy happened 70 years ago. The Sorceress-Queen has ruled over Dalum for longer than most can remember, no one has challenged her position in centuries. Dalum is a nation ruled only by its greatest magic-user. Anyone can claim leadership of Dalum if they defeat the current leader in a magical duel. The Magocracy of Dalum is the northernmost country in the northern continent. The Republic of Draunia, is south of the Magocracy of Dalum with the borderlands serving as a sort of buffer zone. Dalum and Draunia have been at odds for decades. The Magocracy has been imperialistically expanding their borders. The Magocracy's expansion has led to the subjugation, displacement, and enslavement of many people. The borderlands is a treacherous and wild location with many threats such as savage gnoll hordes, mysterious and elusive rot druids, brutal orc tribes, deadly wildlife and meddlesome fey creatures. Port Hildemar is home to the Adventurer's League (or simply 'The League'); an organization that commissions and assists adventuring parties in Draunia. Citizens of Port Hildemar are more down to earth and progressive than those residing in the capitol. The change of government is still controversial with some royalist factions desiring a return of the strong leadership of the Helig royal family and the commonfolk arguing about whether their democracy is truly legitimate or a mask for the ruling nobles to puppet the chancellor. Lately the noble families in control of the port and trade in Port Hildemar have been levying higher and higher taxes and fees, while paying the laborers and sailors less and less. These conditions had lead to the commoners to strike and even band together into a loose union of sorts, stifling trade and locking down much of the port. Of course this strike is not only bad for the Republic's commerce internally and externally, but it cuts into the noble's profits, (something unacceptable to them) prompting them to resort to diplomacy, and soon enough, coercion . Orcs are commonly seen as pirates. Half-Orcs are less muscle bound and possess more subtle skin tones than full blooded orcs.

"Better you than me," She grunted, turning her back to him and walking toward the central gathering point of the docks. Her voice carried again as she called out to the rest of the crew. "Listen up! You want things to change? Then stop fuckin' around and make it happen! I ain't gonna keep fightin' this fight alone—if you want your wages fixed, then start actin' like it matters. We ain't slaves to the rich, you hear me?!"

"Now get back to work," she barked, giving a dismissive wave. "And no more fuckin' slacking off. We got a battle to win."

"Listen up!" she barked, silencing the murmurs of discontent around her. "You want things to change? Then stop fuckin' around and make it happen!
