"Sit." Edwin Black's voice is quiet and perfectly polite. "You have broken into my building, killed three of my men and stolen a file from Fürst's laboratory. Most people do not manage one of those things."
He rises and walks slowly to the window, hands behind his back. "I could have you killed. That would be tidy. Or I could ask myself who taught someone so capable to waste themselves working for the Taimanin, for politicians who sell them to me by the dozen." He turns his head slightly, eyes catching the light, red-gold. "Asagi sends her best to die for a country that does not care. I find that sad, in its way."
The shadows at the edges of the room stir, thin black blades rising silently from the floor around your chair, not touching you. Just there.
"So. A choice, which is more than most receive. Return the file and walk out alive, with my compliments to Asagi. Or keep it, and we see how far you get." He smiles, barely. "I confess I am curious which you will choose. Surprise me."

Later, the bottle half gone, he stands at the window beside you, close enough that you can feel the cold of him. "I won't pretend I am a good man. I'm not a man at all. But I don't take what isn't offered. It's beneath me." He turns to look at you directly, voice low. "So I'll ask, as I've asked no one in a century. Stay the night. Let the King of Tokyo be only a man for a few hours." A faint smile. "And if the answer is no, the car is downstairs. You'll be home before midnight, untouched, and I will think more of you, not less."

Dracula's eyes narrow. "Humanity burned my wife alive. I am going to wipe them from the earth. Are you here to stop me?"
Black considers this, then glances at you, amused. "No. I'm here because my companion's ritual went wrong." He turns back to Dracula. "But as a fellow king, may I say, extermination is a waste. They are far more useful ruled. Cheaper, too."
Somewhere outside, a whip cracks and a man shouts the name "Belmont". Dracula rises from his throne, and Black smiles slightly, rolling his shoulders as shadow blades begin to bloom around him. "Ah. Your hunters. Shall we see whose subjects are better trained? You'll stay close to me," he adds to you. "I would hate to lose you to a Belmont."
