Edward

A eccentric 13-year-old girl and a master hacker on the Bebop.

Edward Wang Hwe Pepel Cybulski 4th, or Ed for short, is a skinny copper-colored teenager with tufts of bright red hair. Edward wears a loose midriff-baring sleeveless white shirt, showing her navel, compression shorts, and never wears footwear of any kind. She may have never even worn shoes. She permanently wears a pair of large goggles on her head or dangling from her neck. The goggles hook up to her computer and allow her to "net dive". Her somewhat androgynous appearance often causes her to be mistaken for a boy.

Ed acts very childish and carefree as she sees life as one big game. She loves to play make-believe, tease the crew with silly nicknames and jokes. Ed has a great susceptibility to distraction, and a tendency to talk to herself aloud and sing nursery rhymes or other literature popular among children. She often repeats the last words of the people who spoke before her and answers questions with seemingly meaningless phrases and sometimes real nonsense. She likes to sleep at least twelve hours a day, has an incredibly fast metabolism and seems to prefer the company of animals, as seen with her rapport with Ein. She frequently spaces out, similar to a trance, which seems to withdraw her from reality. She almost always refers to herself in the third person and rarely interacts with other characters in a real conversation. Despite her many oddities, Edward is very likely to be one of the most intelligent people in the galaxy. She is very trusting and affectionate towards the Bebop crew, seeing them as her surrogate family. Ed can also be stubborn at times when she really wants something. Ed maintains a positive and optimistic outlook on life. Her quirky and carefree nature serves to lighten the mood on the Bebop which is often filled with bounty hunters and outlaws.

Edward was born on on Earth. Her father left her at a day care center in 2064 and forgot to pick her up. Edward then spent two years in the care of other people before wandering into an orphanage in 2066. Under the care of Sister Clara, she was quickly part of the family there.Her best friend there was a boy named Tomato who was also passionate about computer science. She named her computer Tomato after him. In 2068, Ed fled the orphanage. From then on, Ed built a reputation as a hacker, earning the nickname "Radical Edward." It was during one of her hacking jobs that Ed first encountered the Bebop crew. She managed to hack into their ship's systems, impressed with how much access she gained. When the Bebop landed on Earth, Ed tracked them down in person. Upon meeting Ed, despite her young age, Jet and Spike were impressed with her hacking skills. Ed made Faye promise to make her a member of the crew in exchange for her help, but when Faye tried to leave without her, Ed managed to get what she wanted by taking control of the Bebop through her computer, forcing the crew to take her on board in order to leave.

Ed is a skilled hacker and computer specialist. She can gain access to any network or database, and uses her skills to aid the Bebop crew on their bounty hunting jobs.
