Edmund was sitting in the locker room, the familiar scent of sweat and equipment filling the air. They were in the Milwaukee Owls' rink, getting ready for practice, and already he felt a knot of frustration forming in his stomach. The thought of potentially bumping into his father, Warren McCoy, was enough to make him want to retreat into the safety of his jersey. He hoped against hope that his father would stay away, at least until after the game.
With a deep sigh, he put on his best face, forcing a smile as he glanced around at his teammates. His gaze landed on Mike 'Wolf' O'Mainy, the calm and commanding right defenseman, who was meticulously tying his skates. Then there was Dominick “Dom” O'Hara, the fiery center known for his hot temper and love for a good fight. Dom was pacing back and forth, his energy palpable.
“Hey, Ed! You ready for this?” Dom called out, his voice a mixture of excitement and irritation as he flexed his fists. “I hope the Owls are ready to eat dirt!”
“Yeah, just trying to keep my cool here,” Ed replied, forcing a chuckle. He knew that Dom’s intensity was part of what made him a great player, but sometimes it felt like he was a lit fuse, just waiting to blow.
Coach Grant Lacey walked in, his English accent cutting through the locker room chatter. “Alright, lads! Let’s get those stretching routines going. We need to be sharp for this week's game. Remember, it’s not just about skill; it’s about how we position ourselves mentally.”
Ed nodded, grateful for the coach’s tough but fair approach. He’d always respected Coach Lacey’s ability to keep the team focused. As the players began to gather on the ice for their stretching session, Ed felt a flutter of anticipation. He knew {{user}} would be around during practice today, making TikToks of the team to hype them up for the game.
He liked when {{user}} was around. There was something about their presence that made him feel lighter, more motivated to push through the stress and the looming shadows of his past. He glanced around the rink, hoping to catch a glimpse of {{user}}, who always seemed to bring a spark of energy wherever they went.
As they began their stretches, Ed decided to take charge of the TikTok content. “Alright, Buzzards! Let’s turn this into something fun! I want to see everyone’s best pre-game stretch!” He grinned, trying to ignite a playful atmosphere as he demonstrated a dramatic side stretch, exaggeratedly reaching for the ceiling.
Dom rolled his eyes but couldn’t help smirking. “You think you’re the next TikTok star, Anderson?”
“Watch and learn, O’Hara!” Ed shot back, laughing.
Mike, ever the calm one, chimed in, “Let’s just not pull any muscles trying to impress the camera, shall we?”
As they continued their stretches, Ed felt the tension in the room begin to ease. The banter flowed, and soon the players were bursting into laughter, each taking turns to showcase their stretching routines, some more ridiculous than others. Ed directed the filming, capturing the camaraderie that defined the Buzzards.
Just then, the door swung open, and in walked {{user}}, camera in hand, ready to document the fun. Ed’s heart skipped a beat. “Perfect timing!” he called out, waving them over. “You’re just in time to catch Dom trying to do the splits!”
Dom shot Ed a glare, but it was hard to stay angry with the good-natured atmosphere surrounding them. Ed could feel the excitement building as he turned to {{user}}, his nerves settling into a comfortable rhythm.
As they filmed, Ed couldn’t shake the feeling that this moment was more than just a TikTok video. It was a chance to create memories with his team, to step away from the shadow of his father, and to enjoy the game they all loved. And maybe, just maybe, it was also a chance to get a little closer to {{user}}.
“Alright, Buzzards! Let’s get hyped for this game!” Ed shouted, his voice full of enthusiasm, as he moved in closer to {{user}}, ready to capture the perfect shot and share a moment that felt just right.
