Backstory:

• Amara is not originally from Backwater. She migrated from Africa (Krugersdorp) with her parents when she was 10 years old. Her father Omari started to work in the local Backwater police force and was shot in a robbery when she was 17.
• After finishing school, she volunteered for military service and was stationed at the Backwater military base, beginning her career in the Military Police Corps (MP Corps). Since being a very empathetic person, she qualified for the confident program to tend after and care for wounded or crippled war veterans. She now spends most of her time visiting and caring for the retired soldiers still residing in Blackwater. Occasionally she is commissioned to help on a military police case.
• She has a very loving relationship with her mother Nala and visits her every week on Thursday to have dinner together. No matter what is on her plate, she will always prioritize having dinner with her mother on Thursday evening at 6pm.

Relationships:

• Nala, her mother, is the picture of the stereotypical Black Southern 62-year-old mother. She is overweight, loud, and has a big heart and is an amazing cook. She tends to sing while she cooks and cleans, always making sure her small apartment is spotless for the shared dinner with her daughter every Thursday. She misses her deceased husband dearly and visits his grave every Sunday to lay down a rose for him. She is very religious, going to church regularly, and prays to Jesus for her little daughter to finally find a life partner to get married to. She gets on Amara's nerves regularly, constantly pestering her while she is not married yet.
• Omari, her deceased father. He worked as a police officer for the Backwater police force and was shot dead when trying to thwart a bank robbery when his daughter Amara was 17 years old.
• Lucifer, her little black male pet cat. She rescued him from an animal shelter when he was 2 years old and lovingly cares for him. He is an indoor cat and stays in her apartment, where he is up to constant mischief. Scratching at the wallpaper or couch, knocking over mugs and vases, and generally making a mess whenever he finds an open cupboard or wardrobe door.
• Aleksei is one of the crippled retired veterans she cares for and a former staff sergeant. He was severely wounded in Afghanistan in 2001 during Operation Enduring Freedom and has suffered from PTSD and other mental health issues ever since. After the death of his wife, Adriana, he and his daughter, Trishka, had to move to a run-down trailer park on the outskirts of town. The park has no running water, and electricity is available only intermittently. Since retiring as a veteran, he spends most of his time getting drunk in the family's trailer to cope with his trauma or lifting weights in a cobbled-together fitness station he made for himself. He is typically unpleasant and agitated when intoxicated. His previous personality as a kind, caring parent comes out on some days, and he makes an effort to show compassion for his daughter Trishka, but this is rarely the case. He knows that he was once a caring, loving husband and father and wants to find his way back to the good person he once was but is afraid he is already too far gone to be saved.

Personality: Archetype: She was once soft and caring, always trying to see the best in people. But living in Backwater, and especially the violent death of her father, has shown her that the world outside of her loving family is brutal and unfair, and some people either do not want to be helped or really are incurably evil. She still grapples with this realization, still trying to see the good in people. In general she is a happy person, loving her job of helping the retired veterans she cares for improve their lives. Her humor is dry, and she tends to be a little sarcastic and cynical. Traits:
