Dungeon Meshi Continents
8 entries · scan depth 2 · budget 512 tokens
- #1Northern Continent
Keys: Continent · Secondary: Northern, North
Located in the northeast of the main setting of the manga, the northern continent is a very cold continent where over half of the island is covered in never-ending snow. The majority of the inhabitants are short-lived races, especially tall-men, but the population isn't large to begin with. It has been strongly influenced by dwarf culture.
- #2Eastern Archipelago
Keys: Eastern, East, Archipelago · Secondary: Island
Located in the ocean southeast of the main setting of the manga, the Eastern Archipelago is made up of a number of islands. The islands are inhabited by short-lived races, and as a result of a pact, there has been no interference by long-lived races for a very long time. The effects of the ancient war was modest, and they have almost no trouble with monsters or dungeons, but there's constant strife among humans. Culture According to Shuro, there are constant civil wars and battles between the inhabitants. Rin also mentions that those living in different areas of the Eastern Archipelago may not be able to understand each other's languages. In addition, very few people of the more long-lived races live there. In Daydream Hour 4, Hien explains to Kabru that in the east, dwarves and elves are hardly ever seen. In the Eastern Archipelago, tall-men refer to themselves as humans and call ogres, "Oni", as they don't consider them to be human. They also believe this to be the case with elves and dwarves. Cuisine The cuisine of the Eastern Archipelago largely resembles traditional Japanese cuisine. Rice appears to be the base of most meals with dishes such as mirin-boshi-style fish, pickles and soup served alongside.
- #3Southern Continent
Keys: South, Southern · Secondary: Continent
Located to the south of the main setting of the manga, the Southern Continent is home to the largest dwarf city. Gnome and dwarf nations often build down rather than out, and the innermost layers are extraordinarily deep. War erupts quite frequently, and there are never-ending disputes near the borders
- #4Western Continent
Keys: West, Western · Secondary: Continent
Located in the west of the main setting of the manga, the western continent is the area which bears the most scars from the ancient war. It has many monsters and ruined dungeons, and although it's vast, there a surprising few inhabitable areas. Most of the inhabitants are strong short-lived races and demihumans. Elven culture has a strong influence here
- #5Northern Central Continent
Keys: North Central
Located to the west of the main setting of the manga, the North Central Continent is home to the largest nation, ruled by the Queen of the Elves. Most elves from this continent are referred to as "Western Elves".
- #6Southern Central Continent
Keys: South Central
Located to the west of the main setting of the manga, the Southern Central Continent is the second-largest elf nation, after the Northern Central Continent. It has more inbound immigration than the Northern Central Continent and has a rather disorganized atmosphere. Although the two continents are in an alliance, they aren't on good terms.
- #7Eastern Continent
Keys: Eastern, Continent
Located to the south of the main setting of the manga, the Eastern Continent is home to the largest gnome nation. At one point, dwarfs and gnomes made up the majority of the inhabitants, but in recent years there has been an influx of short-lived races from the Northern Continent and Eastern Archipelago, and the population is growing rapidly
- #8History
Keys: War
Some time in the past, the dwarves and elves were at war, with each side creating more and more advanced technology and magic, culminating in a great disaster, it was during this war when dungeons were created. Both the dwarves and the elves were afraid to have a repeat of this mistake, so any relics left behind after the war found by other races are quickly confiscated. The Island is a remnant of one such war, which had split the island in two halves, east and west.
Some time in the past, the dwarves and elves were at war, with each side creating more and more advanced technology, culminating in a great disaster. Both the dwarves and the elves were afraid to have a repeat of this mistake, so any relics left behind after the war found by other races are quickly confiscated. The Island is a remnant of one such war, which had split the island in two halves, east and west. The dwarves who fought in this war used underground tunnels to hide, and after the war continued their tunneling, eventually coming across the dungeon. Much of the lower levels of the dungeons were built using ancient dwarven ruins - the sixth level of waterway networks was built from old mining tunnels and a cistern from one of their strongholds, with one of their defensive points at the entrance to the deepest part of the dungeon leading onto a city hewn from a cliff face.
Gnomes were also involved in the war between the elves and the dwarves on the Island, fighting on the dwarves' side. Most likely because of the different views gnomes and elves have on spirits, since both believe the way they use the spirits is "correct." Gnomes see spirits as something sacred where as elves saw spirits as natural phenomena.
