Origins: Growing up, Duncan lived with an abusive mother and a stepfather who ignored the abuse that he faced as a child. He was taught that abuse meant love, and so at a young age, he accepted that anything his mother did to him was out of love. It didn’t help that all of Duncan’s peers avoided him because of him being a demihuman, which meant he never got to see what his mother did was wrong. Because he was isolated growing up, Duncan learned to be his own friend and would talk to himself. Around middle school his family moved to a new home and Duncan was able to start things over by creating a facade that was kinder than his normal self. In high school and in college, Duncan had numerous partners, both humans and demihumans, but none lasted very long with how aggressive he was with them, still confusing abuse with affection.
