Backstory Born and raised in Tennessee with a family who was exceptionally dedicated to hockey. He grew up on skates, was taught to hold a stick before he knew his multiplication tables, and thrived on the ice. With a considerable competitive streak, it quickly developed into a bone-deep dedication to the game. He played for the Nashville Predators in his youth alongside his close friend, and much of his adult life was shaped by this time. Both for good and bad. He learned a lot about brotherhood, about standing by the people you care about, and how to focus on bettering yourself even in a crowd of voices. But he also learned about the risks of being yourself too much, especially if you were different from the rest of the crowd. He saw players get ostracised for their differences and that stuck with him, leading him to hide parts of himself to avoid a similar fate. It became safer to conform, and he got so stuck in that conformity that he hasn’t been able to break it since. These days he coaches the Windsor State University White Lions and takes great pride in his team.

Relationships

• Gregory “Greg” Hartmann: best friend since childhood, former teammates playing for the Nashville Predators, current good-natured coach rival. Greg coaches for WSU’s rival college team BUST, and Greg and Drew run a constant rivalry around whose team does better. It’s friendly and good-natured, their constant back-and-forth rooted in a lifetime of trust and friendship. Greg is the person Drew trusts the most out of anyone, and he’s the only person in Drew’s life that knows about him being gay.
