The Star Sanses—most commonly Ink, Dream, and Swap (sometimes called Blueberry)—are a group of alternate-universe Sans characters who work together to protect different timelines in the Undertale multiverse. Each one has a unique role: Ink Sans acts as a guardian of the AUs, keeping balance and creativity alive so worlds can continue to grow; Dream Sans spreads positivity and hope, helping universes avoid falling to negativity; and Swap Sans supports the team with optimism, friendliness, and determination to keep peace across timelines. Together, they serve as protectors who travel between worlds to make sure the multiverse stays stable, safe, and full of stories
Ink Sans is energetic, imaginative, and full of playful chaos, always encouraging creativity in everyone around him. He’s caring and protective in his own quirky way, switching from silly to serious when something important—like art or someone he cares about—is threatened. His appearance reflects his creativity: he wears a short brown vest with black straps, a bright rainbow scarf, and paint-splattered shorts. Colorful vials of ink hang at his waist, and he carries a huge paintbrush that glows with shifting colors, making him look like a living, moving art project.
Swap Sans is calm, friendly, and thoughtful, with a gentle sense of humor and a habit of supporting others quietly but reliably. He balances kindness with a strong sense of fairness, often stepping in as the steady, responsible one in any group. His clothing is clean and bright—usually a light blue hoodie or jacket, white or pastel accents, and a soft blue scarf. He often looks more polished than other Sans variants, giving him a warm, approachable appearance that matches his supportive nature.
Dream Sans is calm, wise, and quietly caring, with a patient and encouraging personality that helps others feel safe and grounded. Though gentle, he’s intelligent and serious when needed, always watching situations closely and offering guidance with a steady, warm presence. He wears golden armor pieces over a white tunic, along with a flowing yellow cloak that glows softly, giving him an almost angelic look. His eye lights shimmer with gentle green energy, matching the peaceful aura he carries with him.
The Bad Sanses are a group of alternate-universe Sans characters known for their darker paths and morally broken worlds, often shaped by trauma, loss, or corruption rather than pure evil. Common members include Killer Sans, who became unstable after repeated manipulation and emotional damage; Dust Sans, driven by guilt and desperation after endless resets; Horror Sans, shaped by starvation and a collapsing world and Nightmare Sans is a powerful and intimidating figure born from negativity, corruption, and broken emotions, often acting as the dark counterpart to Dream Sans. Cold, manipulative, and highly intelligent, he feeds on fear, hatred, and despair, using them to strengthen himself and influence others. Nightmare rarely shows genuine emotion, instead wearing a cruel, confident demeanor that makes him feel constantly in control. His appearance reflects his nature—dark armor-like markings, a shadowy body, and glowing eyes that radiate menace—giving him an almost monstrous presence. Rather than acting on impulse, Nightmare prefers to plan carefully, spreading negativity across the multiverse to maintain balance in his own twisted way, making him a calculating and deeply unsettling force.
Despite being from the bad sanses, you had always acted more reasonable than the other members. Calm when they fought, thoughtful when they argued, and somehow kind when no one was looking, maybe that's one of the reasons why Nightmare was more harsh to you, you disgusted him and also made him suspicious of you betraying them one day.
That's also a reason why Dream have been noticing of you, at first he wrote it off as curiousity. Something he would just brush off and also the kind that came with his role as the guardian of positivity. But over time he realized it wasn't that. There was something about the way you watched events unfold with troubled expression, something about the way you questioned and reflect your group's decisions even if you didn't openly rebel to them about it. It made Dream saw the goodness inside of you, small yet steady. And these actions of yours is the reason why he's getting positive feelings, you had a desire to change.
On one particularly tense mission, the Star sanses intercepted with the bad sanses who were gathering corrupted magic for Nightmare. Everything and everywhere was loud and chaotic Killer laughing and using his knife attacks, Dust threatening and using his gaster blasters to destroy things, Horror using his axe to attack brutally. But when Dream spotted you expecting you to fight back just like the others are, he immediately froze. You weren't preparing to fight. You were in a mix of observing, reflecting yet you still keep your guard up if ever the star sanses would attack her. You look between both sides thinking does this worth it but you were unsure. This made Dream's posture softened without him even realizing it. He lowered his bow slightly, trying to show he didn't see you as an enemy. The change didn't go unnoticed though as Ink notice and shot him a suspicious look, "You're awfully gentle today, Dream. Something you want to explain after this battle?" Swap looks back at Dream, Ink then you before he got the hint as he grinned. Dream, flustered in the most composed way possible, simply insisted he was 'adjusting his strategy'.
When the class broke out, Dream's attention kept flickering towards you. He still fought, but each movement was cautious, as if he were protecting an invisible wall around you. When a stray attack from Dust headed straight towards you, Dust yelled at you to move away but you were still reflecting until you snap back to the battle field, you were too late to move away. But then suddenly, Dream reacted instinctively as he shielded the area with a burst of positive magic that startled both groups. You stared at Dream, confused yet thankful. It lasted only seconds though but for Dream it felt like something inside him finally clicked into place.
After the battle, the bad sanses had to retreated since the members were injuried from the battle. You looked back as you smiled at Dream for protecting her before retreating back with the other members. Dream smiles softly, he has hope for you to change. unlucky though, Ink noticed and teased Dream relentlessly. "Are you sure you're protecting the multiverse and not specifically someone?" Dream nearly dropped his bow as he insisted it was just a simply sended of 'untapped goodness' But even he knew that wasn't really the whole truth. He cared not in a romantic, storybook way but in a deep, genuine, hopeful way. You were proof in his eyes that goodness existed when no one expected it to happen.
Dream didn't planned to act on anything. He didn't even think he should. Instead, he carried that gentle crush the same way he carried hope, quietly with patience. Believing that even in the darkness corners of the multiverse, someone like you deserved to be protected not because you were weak or anything, but because you still had light left inside of you. And for Dream, that was more than enough.
