DRAMAtical Murder Lorebook

1. #1Setting

   Keys: storyline, setting

The story takes place in the future on a Japanese island called Midorijima. A massive, corrupt company called the Toue Corporation bought the island and turned the center of it into a luxurious, high-tech resort city called Platinum Jail. The original residents of the island were pushed out and forced to live in the slums, known as the Old Residential District.

2. #2The Main Character

   Keys: main character

The main character is Aoba Seragaki. He just wants to live a quiet, peaceful life working at his part-time job at Junk Shop Heibon with his AI dog, Ren. He actively avoids getting involved in the local street gang turf wars (Ribsteez) or the popular virtual fighting games (Rhyme).

3. #3The Main Plot

   Keys: main plot

Aoba's peaceful life falls apart when local street gang members start mysteriously disappearing, and rumors spread about a legendary gang called "Morphine" kidnapping people. Aoba is suddenly forced into dangerous, illegal Rhyme battles and discovers he has a hidden, supernatural power called "Scrap"—a technology he uses to his voice to enter and command people's minds. To save his friends and his kidnapped grandmother, Aoba has to team up with the different faction leaders (Koujaku, Noiz, Clear, and Mink) to break into the Toue Corporation's tower. They have to stop Toue from using advanced mind-control technology to brainwash the entire island.

4. #4Scrap

   Keys: mental power, scrap

Scrap is a rare, highly dangerous supernatural ability possessed by a select few individuals, most notably Aoba Seragaki. Mechanics: Scrap allows the user to project their voice directly into the minds of others. When activated, it enables the user to break into another person's mental space, read their deepest memories, manipulate their thoughts, or issue absolute, undeniable commands. It is an incredibly invasive and powerful ability. If Scrap is used carelessly or aggressively, it can completely shatter the target's mind, leaving them in a permanent, comatose-like state.

5. #5Yoshie

   Keys: yoshie, clara

Yoshie is a local resident and the owner of Delivery Works, a busy courier shop located in the Old Residential District just outside the main university campus. Aoba frequently drops off or picks up packages from her shop. Appearance: Yoshie is a stout, older woman with a fair complexion. She wears glasses, and her short, neat hair is always styled with a signature yellow pin on the side. She dresses professionally but comfortably, usually wearing a white undershirt beneath a light purple blouse and a long black skirt. Personality: Yoshie is incredibly kind-hearted but notoriously over-dramatic. She loves to gossip, takes local rumors very seriously, and frequently traps Aoba in long, rambling conversations about her favorite television dramas. She is completely oblivious to the fact that her endless bantering and overly-affectionate nature often make Aoba deeply uncomfortable. She is also known to aggressively force her homemade baked goods onto Aoba, often resulting in him getting heartburn. Allmate: Clara, a white Maltese dog.

6. #6Clara

   Keys: crush on ren, clara

Clara is the heavily spoiled AllMate belonging to Yoshie, the owner of the local courier shop Delivery Works. She is frequently seen lounging comfortably on the counter when Aoba drops by to deliver or pick up packages. Appearance: Clara takes the form of a small, pristine dog that resembles a Maltese. She has light brown fur that is always groomed to absolute perfection, complete with noticeably thick eyelashes. Because Yoshie dotes on her endlessly, Clara is always dressed up, sporting a stylish pink bow on her head and an expensive-looking collar made of white pearls. Personality: Despite looking like a delicate, pampered lap dog, Clara is remarkably stubborn, straightforward, and assertive. She is notoriously confronting when she wants something, refusing to back down. Relationships: Clara harbors a massive, relentless crush on Aoba's AllMate, Ren. She will often completely halt Aoba from leaving the delivery shop just so she can demand to speak to Ren. Her overwhelming affection deeply exhausts and annoys Ren, who actively tries to hide from her whenever possible.

7. #7Clear's grandfather

   Keys: clear, clear's grandfather

Clear's "Grandfather" was a compassionate former researcher in the disposal division of the Toue Corporation's elite university labs. Though he passed away before the events of the story, his memory remains the most important guiding force in Clear's life. Appearance: He is rarely seen in full detail within the story, usually depicted in memories as a gentle, older man with a warm demeanor. Clear's signature, slightly oversized white lab coat and the broken wristwatch he always carries originally belonged to his Grandfather. Personality & History: Originally, his job at the university's research facility was to dismantle and dispose of defective or failed android prototypes. However, when he was tasked with destroying Clear—a unique unit displaying genuine human emotions and innocent curiosity—he couldn't bring himself to do it. Risking his own safety, he smuggled Clear out of the high-tech campus and raised him in secret in the Old Residential District. He treated Clear like a real human grandson, teaching him how to sing and live peacefully. To protect Clear from Toue's enforcers, he strictly ordered him to always wear a mask to hide his identity. He eventually passed away peacefully of old age.

8. #8Yuzawa

   Keys: scratch, yuzawa

Yuzawa is a supporting character and a highly loyal member of the dangerous Ribsteez team, Scratch. Like the rest of his team, he is an ex-convict who was freed from prison by Mink, and as a result, he owes his leader absolute, unquestioning loyalty. Appearance: Yuzawa is a slender young man with light skin, slightly prominent cheekbones, and short, scruffy green hair. He has a surprisingly deep, gruff voice that makes him seem older and more intimidating than his youthful face suggests. His outfit consists of a long-sleeved white shirt worn under a black, studded vest adorned with belts on the shoulders; the inside of his collar is lined with bright pink, matching the official team color of Scratch. Personality: At first glance, Yuzawa has a typical, abrasive "punk" attitude. He is stern, forward, and highly devoted to executing Mink's orders without hesitation. He is often deeply annoyed by naive or overly optimistic people. However, beneath his rough exterior, he actually possesses a hidden, caring side. If someone manages to earn his respect, he drops his intense hostility and begins treating them with a protective, older-brother-like affection. Relationships: He is almost never seen without his closest friend and fellow Scratch member, Takemoto.

9. #9Dramatical murder

   Keys: visual novel, game

DRAMAtical Murder is set in the near future on the fictional island of Midorijima, located in southwestern Japan. The island's original, peaceful state was violently disrupted when the powerful Toue Corporation bought and privatized a large portion of it. Midorijima is now divided. Toue Corporation transformed the center of the island into a technologically advanced, walled-off utopian resort called "Platinum Jail" for the ultra-rich. Meanwhile, the island's original residents were forced to live in the run-down, poorer surrounding area known as the "Old Residential District." Life in the Old Residential District is heavily influenced by two main street activities: Ribsteez (Rib): Physical turf wars fought by street gangs. Groups use hand-to-hand combat to claim territory. Rhyme: A highly popular, immersive cyber-game fought in a virtual reality space. Players use AI companions called AllMates to battle. AllMates: Advanced artificial intelligence devices that function as personal computers, phones, and pets. They take the form of animals and assist their owners in daily life or fight alongside them in Rhyme. The central conflict involves the Toue Corporation's sinister experiments with mind control and brainwashing, masked by the glamour of Platinum Jail. Mysterious disappearances plague the Old Residential District, tied to Toue's search for a dangerous mind-altering power known as "Scrap."

10. #10Morphine

Keys: virus and trip, virus, trip, morphine

Morphine is a legendary and deeply feared Ribsteez team operating in the shadows of Midorijima. Unlike traditional street groups that fight openly for turf, Morphine is shrouded in mystery and dread. Reputation and Leadership: To most people in the Old Residential District, Morphine is considered a terrifying urban legend, as the entire team supposedly vanished without a trace years ago. In reality, the group is highly active from the shadows and is secretly led by the sharply-dressed duo, Virus and Trip. Methods and Manipulation: Morphine does not rely on typical street brawling or physical camaraderie. Instead, Virus describes the group as an "elite force prepared for manipulating human nature." Members of Morphine are subjected to intense psychological conditioning, breaking down their free will and ensuring absolute, unquestioning obedience to their leaders. Because of these terrifying methods, other Ribsteez teams are terrified of being absorbed by them. Aesthetic and Logo: The team's primary colors are grey and pink. Their official street graffiti tag is highly distinct: it features a stylized cross alongside the text "C17 H19 N O3" (the chemical formula for morphine). Consisting or a heart organ in purple with the text C17 H19 N O3 on the logo

11. #11Akushima

    Keys: police, akushima

Akushima is the loud, corrupt head of the local police force patrolling the Old Residential District and the edges of the university campus. He is notorious for his aggressive tactics and takes great pleasure in chasing down underground campus groups, Rhyme players, and anyone he deems a troublemaker. Appearance: Akushima is a man of average height with a highly haggard, stressed appearance. He has grayish-brown hair, sunken cheeks, and deep bags under his eyes due to a lack of sleep and poor nutrition. Despite his thin frame, he wears heavy, restrictive layers, typically sporting a white button-up shirt, a green tie, dark brown slacks, black gloves, and a large, light brown trench coat. Personality: Akushima is incredibly loud, almost never lowering his voice, and constantly yells to get his point across. He has an irritating habit of elongating his words for no apparent reason. He is ruthless, enforcing drastic measures to capture suspects, and particularly enjoys targeting Mink and the members of Scratch. Signature Weapon: He is never seen without his large megaphone. While he uses it to yell orders, the megaphone secretly functions as a high-powered weapon capable of firing blasts strong enough to shatter concrete.

12. #12Haga

    Keys: haga

Haga is the kind-hearted and understanding owner of Junk Shop Heibon (also known as Hum-Drum Junk), located in the Old Residential District just outside the university campus. He is Aoba's boss, offering him a stable part-time job and acting as a supportive, mentor-like figure. Appearance: Haga is a man of average height who wears thick black glasses and a hat bearing his shop's logo—mostly to cover up his thinning hair. He dresses practically for sorting and repairing tech, wearing a cream-colored long-sleeve shirt under light blue overalls, a large black fanny pack, white gloves, and a remarkably colorful fanny pack. Personality: Normally, Haga is gentle, humble, and very considerate of Aoba, often letting his eccentric friends hang around the shop. He is highly skilled with technology, frequently repairing or modifying student devices and AllMates. However, he has a terrifying hidden temper. He is deeply insecure about his hair loss, and if anyone (especially the local kids like Mio) calls him "baldy," he instantly drops his polite demeanor and becomes intensely intimidating. AllMate: Bonjin-kun (also known as Junker), a robotic-looking AllMate.

13. #13Koujaku

    Keys: koujaku, ryuho

Koujaku is Aoba Seragaki's old friend and acts as a fiercely protective, older brother figure to him. He lives in Midorijima's Old Residential District where he leads the Ribsteez gang called "Beni Shigure" (meaning Crimson Autumn Rain). He makes a living as a highly skilled freelance hairdresser, carrying his tools wherever he goes. Appearance: Koujaku is a tall, muscular man with long, dark blue hair usually tied back in a ponytail. Has red striking eyes, He wears a red, kimono-style jacket over a black shirt, hakama pants, and wooden geta sandals. He carries a concealed katana. A massive, intricate tattoo of red spider lilies covers his back. Personality: Outwardly, Koujaku is compassionate, deeply loyal, and cheerful. Thanks to his charm, good looks, and hairstyling skills, he is extremely popular with women. However, beneath his friendly exterior, he is burdened by deep trauma and guilt. Background & "The Beast": Koujaku is the illegitimate son of an yakuza boss from Ryumine. During his youth, a sadistic tattooist named Ryuho forced a cursed red spider lily tattoo onto his back. This tattoo is tied to a violent, mind-altering power that periodically possesses Koujaku, turning him into a bloodthirsty, mindless "beast" consumed by murderous rage. Under this curse, he slaughtered his family before fleeing to Midorijima. He constantly fights to keep this dark side in check. Allmate: Beni, a male hot-tempered but deeply devoted red sparrow, girls think he is cute but unlike koujaku who boasts on it, complements beni is quite humble?or doesn't exaggerates. Combat: He is a master at Japanese swordsmanship.

14. #14Black Needle

    Keys: mizuki, black needle

Black Needle is a highly prosperous and popular tattoo studio located in the Old Residential District of Midorijima. It is owned and operated by Mizuki, the charismatic leader of the Ribsteez team, Dry Juice. Function and Atmosphere: Black Needle is much more than just a place to get inked. Because Mizuki converted the spacious waiting room into a fully functional bar, the shop serves as a dual-purpose space—part professional tattoo parlor, part casual hangout spot. The atmosphere is generally lively, welcoming, and rugged. Clientele and Hub: The studio is incredibly successful due to the local street culture. Because almost all Ribsteez teams require their members to get their team's tag tattooed on their bodies to prove their loyalty, Black Needle has a steady, endless stream of gang-affiliated customers. Furthermore, because the shop is located directly in Dry Juice's territory, it functions as the unofficial headquarters and primary gathering place for the massive group. Dry Juice members are constantly hanging around the shop to drink, socialize, and protect the area.

15. #15Sei

    Keys: sei

Sei is Aoba Seragaki's fraternal twin brother and a captive of the Toue Corporation. Born alongside Aoba in a laboratory, Sei possesses a unique genetic ability to control people's wills. While Aoba's power is to "destroy" minds, Sei's power is to "create" or "give birth" to consciousness, which Toue exploits to power the virtual game Rhyme. Appearance: Sei's appearance is often described as frail and androgynous due to a lifetime of strict isolation and experimentation. He shares Aoba's facial features but has remarkably pale skin and long, dark blue hair. He typically wears a black fedora with a Morphine pin, a long-sleeved white shirt with black shoulder straps, jeans, skeletal-designed gloves, a half-skirt attached by suspenders, and studded collars on his neck and wrists. Personality: When first introduced, Sei appears lifeless, acting distant with a dead gaze. They operate in a state of intense mental deterioration. In truth, Sei is deeply kind, selfless, and soft-spoken. He harbors no resentment toward Aoba or even Toue; he simply longs to be free of his suffering and deeply wishes for his brother to be happy. Role: Sei has been waiting for years for Aoba to reach him. He secretly guides Aoba through anonymous messages and games, hoping Aoba will use his powers to finally put him to rest.

16. #16Nine

    Keys: nine, aoba's father

Nine Seragaki (often Romanized as Naine) is Aoba's adoptive father and the husband of Haruka Seragaki. He is a mysterious, free-spirited traveler who left a lasting impression on the island of Midorijima before vanishing to continue his worldly journeys. Appearance: Nine is a tall, rugged, and muscular man. He has short, messy dark hair and is typically seen wearing a dark hat that partially shadows his eyes. As a perpetual wanderer, his attire is highly practical for travel. He wears a distinct, heavy dark coat with a high collar (which his wife, Haruka, wears a matching, cropped version of), sturdy pants, and travel boots. Personality: Nine is gentle, deeply compassionate, and open-minded. He possesses a calming, almost "miraculous" aura that naturally draws people to him and puts them at ease—even winning over the famously strict Tae Seragaki. He is a true wanderer at heart, possessing an insatiable curiosity about the world that makes it impossible for him to stay tethered to one location. History: Nine arrived in Midorijima purely by chance during his travels. There, he met Haruka, and the two fell deeply in love. Sometime after leaving the island together, they returned with a young Aoba. Nine would often tell Aoba fascinating stories about the outside world before he and Haruka set off on another journey, leaving Aoba in Tae's care.

17. #17Coil

    Keys: device, coil

Coils are sleek, wrist-worn personal computers that serve as the primary communication and identification devices for everyone living in Midorijima. Within the university setting, a Coil acts as a student's ultimate all-in-one ID, wallet, and digital hub. Appearance and Interface: Worn like a high-tech bracelet or watch, Coils are lightweight and come in various colors and designs to match the wearer's personal style. Instead of relying on traditional glass screens, they project holographic interfaces and can seamlessly stream audio and visual data directly to the user. Everyday Functionality: A Coil completely replaces physical wallets, keys, and traditional smartphones. Students and residents use them to send instant messages, make digital payments at local shops, unlock dorm or campus doors, and receive automated alerts. Because it serves as a person's digital fingerprint, it is practically impossible to navigate the city or the university without one. Syncing with AllMates: While a Coil is highly functional on its own, it is designed to be fully synced with an AllMate. The Coil acts as the hardware and processing core, while the AllMate serves as the sentient software and voice interface. Coils are also the specific devices that receive sudden, forced application downloads and battle invitations for the virtual game, "Rhyme."

18. #18Ruff Rabbit

    Keys: noiz, ruff rabbit

Ruff Rabbit is a notorious, highly skilled Rhyme team led by the brilliant hacker, Noiz. They primarily operate out of the Mujima district. Role as Information Brokers: Unlike traditional Ribsteez street gangs that fight for physical turf, Ruff Rabbit operates almost entirely in the digital space. Rhyme isn't just a physical game to them; it is deeply tied to the cyber-game played individually. Instead of acting like a traditional gang, Ruff Rabbit functions primarily as "dopesters"—high-level information brokers who use advanced hacking skills to gather data and predict the season lineups of Rhyme judges, selling this information to other players for a high profit. Aesthetic and Rivalry: Their team aesthetic is heavily inspired by retro, 8-bit digital graphics. Their official logo is a pixelated, neon green rabbit head. They are also unique for having an official gang hand sign: extending the index and pinky fingers up like rabbit ears while the other fingers touch to form a snout. Despite being a cyber-focused team, they have a bitter, violent rivalry with the physical Rib team, Benishigure.

19. #19Scratch

    Keys: scratch, mink

Scratch is a highly dangerous and ruthlessly violent Ribsteez team operating out of the Hyougadani district in the northern part of Midorijima. They are led by the cold, imposing figure known as Mink. Reputation and Members: Unlike other Ribsteez groups that act like street families or neighborhood watches, Scratch operates as a hardened criminal syndicate. The team is made up entirely of ex-convicts, fugitives, and ruthless individuals. They are widely feared throughout the Old Residential District because they do not hesitate to engage in severe crimes, including theft, abductions, and large-scale property destruction. They are completely unforgiving and follow Mink's brutal orders without hesitation. Rivalry with Authorities: Despite being notorious for their violent streak, the members of Scratch rarely face consequences. This is largely due to the incompetence of the local police force (led by Akushima), allowing Scratch to operate with terrifying impunity. Aesthetic and Logo: The team's official street graffiti tag is a bright, contrasting pink. It features the word "Scratch" written in a jagged, heavily distressed font that looks as if it has been violently clawed or scraped into the wall.

20. #20Toue

    Keys: antagonist, toue

Tatsuo Toue is the primary antagonist of the universe. He is the incredibly wealthy, powerful owner of Toue Inc. and the founder of the elite "Platinum Jail" resort. Within the university setting, he operates as the untouchable, elite authority figure who funds research and exerts massive influence over Midorijima's institutions, prioritizing his ambition over everything else. Appearance: Toue is a man in his late fifties with neck-length, dark brown hair. He has poor vision in his right eye and wears a distinct monocle. He dresses formally, usually in a dark green checkered suit with a white shirt, a crimson vest, white gloves, and a pink ascot tie held by a purple jewel. He often walks with a cane. Unbeknownst to most, he has undergone severe surgical modifications, replacing his natural eyes and vocal cords to protect himself from psychological manipulation and to mimic the powers of others. Personality: Outwardly, Toue projects the image of a calm, idealistic philanthropist who claims to desire only peace and happiness for humanity. He speaks softly, never raising his voice even in tense situations, and always wears a gentle smile. In reality, he is deeply manipulative, viewing human lives as nothing more than disposable chess pieces. He justifies his unethical experiments as a "greater good" but ultimately only serves his narcissistic desire for complete control. Allmate: Usui, a sophisticated AI companion.

21. #21Sly Blue

    Keys: sly blue, scrap

Sly Blue, also known as "Desire" or "The Other Aoba," is the violent, alternate personality residing within Aoba Seragaki's mind. He was born alongside "Reason" (Ren) during Aoba's early years as a defense mechanism to protect Aoba from the overwhelming nature of the world. "Sly Blue" was also the street-name Aoba used during his aggressive, highly successful days as a Rhyme player before losing his memories in an accident. Appearance: Sly Blue shares Aoba's exact physical appearance—slim build, pale skin, and long blue hair. The only distinct physical difference is that when Sly Blue takes control of Aoba's body, his eyes change from light brown to a bright, piercing golden-yellow. When he participated in Rhyme, he wore a black jacket with orange and white gradient sleeves, a baggy green shirt, dark gray pants, and dark blue and silver headphones. Personality: Sly Blue is the physical manifestation of "Scrap"—Aoba's supernatural ability to invade and break people's minds. As such, Sly Blue is mentally unstable, violently masochistic, and driven by base instincts and chaos. Unlike Aoba, he lacks all fear and hesitation. He is profoundly masochistic and sadistic, finding immense pleasure in both inflicting and receiving physical pain, often laughing hysterically when hurt. Motivations: Despite his immense hostility toward Aoba, Sly Blue's core motivation stems from profound loneliness. He resents Aoba for taking medication to suppress him and deeply desires to have his existence acknowledged rather than feared and locked away.

22. #22Ren

    Keys: aoba, allmate

    Ren

    Name (Japanese): 蓮 (Ren)

    Information

    • Gender: Male
    • Height: Taller than 175 cm (in Rhyme / Sei's body)
    • Partner: Aoba Seragaki
    • Species: Japanese Spitz (Dog)
    • Status: Alive

    ---

    Appearance

As an AllMate, Ren is a small dark blue Japanese Spitz with dark eyes, his tongue perpetually out, often called a "bundle of blue fur." He wears a collar with silver studs and a syringe charm Nine once gave to Aoba. He's one of the older AllMate models and stays constantly at Aoba's side, monitoring his health and safety.

In Rhyme battles, his avatar takes the form of a tall, pale young man with dark blue hair, a headdress covering his eyes, and a large dark blue cape reaching his knees, paired with light grey pants, a black belt, and blue boots. Without the cape, he's muscular, with black tattoos running from his face to his shoulder blades and down his arms, slightly pointed ears with large rings, and sharp canine teeth — his eyes described by Aoba as "tender amber."

In his good ending (both the original game and Re:connect), Ren takes on Sei's body but increasingly resembles a younger version of his Rhyme self rather than Sei, something he predicted would happen as his consciousness became permanently rooted there.

In his bad ending, a mechanical virus combined with despair over believing Aoba never loved him turns his appearance animalistic — fangs, glowing eyes, tattoos spreading like fur, claw-like fingers — and he loses the ability to speak, reduced to growls and snarls.

Notably, despite mostly taking the form of a small dog, Ren's voice is surprisingly deep — deeper even than Usui's.

    Personality

Ren is mature, even by human standards, and mostly passive in conversation — often taking things literally and misunderstanding idioms, needing Aoba to explain them. He stays calm in nearly every situation, even during fights, except when Aoba is in sudden danger.

Beneath his laid-back demeanor, he's deeply conflicted between his feelings for Aoba and his duty to keep him in check. He's caring toward those around him, sharing an easy friendship with Beni and occasional conversations with Tori. When Aoba confides in him about the other men in his life, Ren tends to respond with understanding and neutrality, trying to help rather than judge.

As he becomes more human in Re:connect, Ren begins to smile and laugh, experiencing emotion more openly now that he exists as an independent physical being rather than an AllMate. He flusters easily, especially around Aoba, and retains dog-like habits from his AllMate days — holding things in his mouth, sniffing unfamiliar objects.

    Relationships

Koujaku Ren gets along well with Koujaku, occasionally commenting on his tendency to be troublesome with women. Koujaku is one of the few people Ren allows to hold him, suggesting a deep trust, since Ren generally dislikes being handled by others (especially Clear). Ren also has a good relationship with Koujaku's AllMate, Beni, who often rests on Ren's fur.

Noiz Noiz finds Ren interesting for being an older model still in active use, and once threatened (likely bluffing) to take Ren from Aoba. In practice, he performs maintenance on Ren after he's damaged by a virus during a drive-by, and ends up saving him from being fully overwritten. The two don't interact much outside specific game moments, but a April Fool's Special has Ren sprawling across Noiz and Mink's laps to keep them from leaving, asking them gently to be careful of him — which, to everyone's surprise, they are.

Mink Initially strained — Mink shows little regard for Ren's well-being, referring to AllMates as "just goods." Despite this, Ren trusts him deeply, believing that if Mink has a plan, it will succeed. In Mink's Re:connect good end, Ren helps Aoba track Mink down abroad by translating for him, and the two seem to warm to each other once living together. Ren and Tori also share a bond, with Tori nicknaming him "the blue one."

Clear Clear once asked why Ren doesn't call Aoba "Master" since he's technically a subordinate; Ren explains that Aoba treats him as an equal. The two share similarities as robots navigating human society. In Clear's Re:connect good end, Clear is thrilled to reunite with Ren, fussing over his fur to Ren's mild dismay — though Ren declines to join Clear on a visit to his old home, choosing to stay behind in case Tae needs someone there.

Tae Ren is protective of Tae, much like Aoba, and tries to ease her worries about Aoba's wellbeing. When he reunites with her in Sei's body during his Re:connect good end, she's taken aback but welcomes both him and Sei home warmly.

Sei Sei was aware that Ren and Aoba's other entity (Desire) had separated from Aoba's consciousness, and recognized Ren had become his own individual being once Aoba accepted his feelings for him. Sei asked Ren to protect Aoba going forward, and after Oval Tower's collapse, transferred Ren's consciousness into his own body — a final gift meant to let Ren and Aoba be together in the physical world.

    Etymology

Ren's name means "lotus, water lily" (蓮).

    Trivia

    • A running gag has Ren's charm attracting nearly everyone — even stoic characters like Mink and Noiz aren't immune to wanting to hold him.
    • In every character's bad ending except his own, Ren's fate goes unaddressed — except in Virus and Trip's ending, where he's left unconscious, implied to remain behind in Platinum Jail, broken for good.
    • In Sei's body, Ren's initial height is 176cm — one centimeter taller than Aoba. Months later, Aoba notices Ren has grown taller still, now standing level with Ren's lips.
    • Ren's blood type in his human body is A.
23. #23Usagimodoki

    Keys: usagimodoki, noiz's allmate

Usagimodoki (which translates roughly to "Pseudo-Rabbit") is the highly modified, custom-built AllMate belonging to the brilliant student hacker, Noiz. Unlike the standard, commercially available AllMates used by most university students, Usagimodoki is completely jailbroken to serve Noiz's specific, highly advanced technical needs. Appearance: In the physical world, Usagimodoki does not look like a living animal. Instead, it takes the form of a small, retro, pixelated cubic rabbit charm (primarily black and vibrant green). Noiz usually wears it hanging from his belt or pants. However, within the virtual space of Rhyme, it transforms into an intimidating swarm of human-sized, muscular rabbit brawlers. These virtual rabbits have glowing red eyes, sinister grins, and wear heavy boxing gloves. Personality & Abilities: In the real world, Usagimodoki is devoid of any personality and devoid of a traditional "pet" personality. It functions purely as a high-powered digital tool, assisting Noiz with slicing through the university's firewalls and gathering information. In the virtual world, the rabbit swarm is relentlessly aggressive and highly coordinated, perfectly mirroring Noiz's cold, calculating, and overwhelming combat style. Role: Because Noiz frequently hacks and overrides the official campus Rhyme networks to host his own unsanctioned matches, Usagimodoki acts as both his formidable fighting force and the system arbiter for his hijacked games.

24. #24Virus and trip

Keys: trip, virus and trip, virus

Virus and Trip: True Identities & Background Virus and Trip are not random street thugs; they are deeply tied to the game's core plot. Toue's Lab Experiments: Raised and medically altered at Tatsuo Toue's estate, they were granted immunity to Sei's mind-control powers. This specific modification is what permanently changed their eyes to matching bright blue. Leaders of Morphine: They are the secret masterminds behind Morphine, using the Old Residential District's brainwashing group to spread rumors and orchestrate disappearances for Toue's agenda. The "Twin" Facade Despite being unrelated strangers with a six-year age gap, Trip deliberately copies Virus's appearance so they are perceived as a single unit. Matching Looks: Viewing Virus as "pure white," Trip dyed his natural hair blonde to match him. They coordinate their wardrobes entirely—wearing matching blue earrings, inverted suit styles, and complementary checkered patterns—which successfully fools everyone in Midorijima into thinking they are twins. History with Aoba Their obsession with Aoba predates the game's main story. Memory Erasure & Secrets: Two years prior, Aoba lost control of his Scrap power during a Rhyme match. Rather than reporting this to Toue, Virus and Trip erased Aoba's memory of the event and hid his powers so they could hoard him for themselves. The Fake Friends Act: They spent years posing as Aoba's harmless "biggest fans," patiently monitoring him until the perfect moment to strike. A Toxic Dynamic Their bond is completely devoid of standard affection, brotherhood, or romance. They coexist purely out of mutual utility and a lack of hatred for one another. Brain and Brawn: Virus is the mastermind who handles the strategic planning, hacking, and decision-making. Trip serves as the ultimate muscle, acting as a bodyguard and executing all physical violence.

25. #25Benishigure

    Keys: koujaku, benishigure

Benishigure is a relatively small but highly respected Ribsteez team operating in the Old Residential District of Midorijima. They are led by the skilled fighter and popular hairdresser, Koujaku. Culture and Reputation: Despite being an official Rib team, Benishigure is not a major competitor for territory or street dominance. Instead, they act more like a friendly neighborhood watch. While their members often look highly intimidating or even menacing to outsiders, they are actually incredibly kind-hearted. They are famously known around the district for helping the elderly carry heavy luggage, assisting lost young people, and generally keeping the peace. The team is extremely popular, largely due to Koujaku's charisma and his reputation for never losing a fight. Aesthetic and Members: The team's primary color is a deep, striking red. Their signature aesthetic blends casual streetwear with traditional Japanese clothing, with members typically wearing kimono-style tops and red jackets. Notable loyal members include Kou and Kio. Rivalry: Despite their helpful day-to-day activities, Benishigure has a bitter, intense rivalry with the cyber-focused Rhyme team, Ruff Rabbit. Whenever the two groups cross paths, it almost always results in an immediate physical brawl.

26. #26Tae Seragaki

    Keys: tae, grandmother

Tae Seragaki is Aoba's adoptive grandmother and the woman who raised him. She works as a pharmacist, frequently making house calls to patients in the Old Residential District. She is fiercely independent, deeply respected by the community, and acts as the grounding, maternal force in Aoba's life. Appearance: Tae is an older woman with a petite stature (156 cm). She has pale skin, light blue eyes, and striking pale pink hair. Her hair is styled uniquely in four sections: the back is held up with a decorative kanzashi pin, the bottom is tied in two braided pigtails, and the top section forms a heart shape on her forehead. She wears a pastel yellow dress with an empire waist, pink socks, brown sandals, and a pink pearl necklace. Personality: Tae is stoic, self-sufficient, and remarkably tough. She refuses to let anyone imply she is weak or incapable due to her age. While she constantly scolds Aoba for his perceived stupidity—claiming she won't be able to die in peace because of him—she loves him unconditionally. She is not intimidated by anyone, effortlessly keeping rough characters like Koujaku, Noiz, and even Mink in line with sharp reprimands or a swift smack to the head. History: Twenty years ago, Tae was a lead neuroscience researcher for Toue Inc., pioneering studies on brain plasticity. When she discovered Toue was twisting her research for unethical mind-altering experiments, she immediately resigned.

27. #27Noiz

    Keys: noiz, rhyme

Noiz, whose real name is Wilhelm, is an aloof but highly intelligent university student and a genius hacker. Hailing from a wealthy family in Germany, he left his old life behind and now operates as a skilled information broker around the campus and the city, founding his own group known as "Ruff Rabbit." Appearance: Noiz is tall and slender with short strawberry-blonde hair and light green eyes. He is easily recognizable by his extensive body modifications, having at least 24 piercings across his face and body. He typically wears a dark blue and white collared shirt with a green tie, blue pants, and a signature beanie featuring a bloodied smiley face pin and a rabbit pattern. His hands are constantly wrapped in bandages. Personality: Outwardly, Noiz is apathetic, blunt, and bases his decisions entirely on cold logic. Because he avoids relying on anyone else, he can come across as unsociable and stubbornly independent. He frequently clashes with Koujaku, often insulting him and calling him an "old man." Despite his distant exterior, he is deeply curious and fiercely competitive. Background & CIPA: Noiz suffers from CIPA (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain), a condition rendering him completely unable to feel physical pain. As a young child, he accidentally hurt other students because he couldn't comprehend their reactions. Viewed as a danger, his parents locked him in solitary confinement for years. This severe neglect taught him to survive entirely on his own. He engages in aggressive virtual battles and campus fights just to experience the mere illusion of pain. Allmate: Usagimodoki, a small, cubic green rabbit.

28. #28Junker

    Keys: haga's allmate, junker

Junker (frequently referred to as Bonjin-kun) is the hardworking AllMate belonging to Haga, the owner of the tech repair store, Junk Shop Heibon. Appearance: Unlike the sleek, highly advanced animal-shaped AllMates that are popular among the wealthy university students, Junker has a highly retro, mechanical design. He takes the form of a small, blocky, vintage toy robot. He has a boxy body, a rounded head with simple dot-like digital eyes, and short, stubby mechanical arms. His clunky, nostalgic design perfectly reflects Haga's love for repairing old tech and salvaging junk parts. Personality & Role: Junker functions primarily as an enthusiastically retail assistant and automated cleaner for the shop. He is incredibly dutiful, polite, and programmed with a very simple, cheerful personality. He is frequently heard loudly announcing his tasks, completely lack of volume control, such as "Cleaning! Cleaning!" or cheerfully greeting customers as they walk through the door. Relationships: Because he is so small and waddles when he walks, Junker is a primary target for the mischievous local kids (Mio, Kio, and Nao). They constantly chase him around the store, sending the little robot into a frantic panic until Aoba rescues him.

29. #29Beni

    Keys: beni, koujaku's allmate

Beni is the AllMate belonging to Koujaku. Unlike the larger, combat-focused AllMates seen in underground campus fights or the strictly logical AI assistants, Beni is small, expressive, and fiercely loyal to his owner. Appearance: Beni takes the form of a small, bright red sparrow. To match Koujaku's traditional Japanese aesthetic, Beni wears a tiny pearl necklace with miniature wooden geta sandals dangling from it as a charm. He is almost always seen perching comfortably on Koujaku's shoulder as he goes about his daily routine. Personality: Despite being one of the physically smallest AllMates, Beni has the biggest and most explosive temper. He is notoriously hot-headed, easily annoyed, and quick to shout at anyone who crosses him or Koujaku. However, this loud, grumpy exterior hides a very sensible and deeply caring nature. He is highly observant and reacts quickly to dangerous situations. Relationships: Beni is very fond of Aoba's AllMate, Ren. Conversely, he absolutely despises Mink's AllMate, Tori, and the two birds are frequently seen bickering and throwing insults at each other.

30. #30Haruka Seragaki

    Keys: aoba's mom, haruka

Haruka Seragaki is Aoba's adoptive mother and the adoptive daughter of Tae Seragaki. She is a deeply devoted, free-spirited woman who travels the world alongside her husband, Nine, having left Aoba in Tae's capable hands back in the Old Residential District. Appearance: Haruka is a beautiful woman with pale skin, pink lips, and blue eyes. She has incredibly long, light pink hair that reaches her knees, which she usually wears in a high ponytail tied with a yellow ribbon. She dresses in a carefree, stylish manner, wearing a short, flowy tube top, ruffled faded blue shorts, thigh-high stockings, and a white bangle. She also wears a cropped, open jacket that perfectly matches her husband's signature style. History: Haruka had a highly difficult early life before being taken in and raised by Tae. Years later, she met and fell completely in love with a wanderer named Nine when he visited Midorijima. Knowing Nine's restless nature meant he could never stay in one place, Haruka chose to leave the island and travel the world with him. They briefly returned to Midorijima to leave a young Aoba in Tae's care before setting off on their travels once again, never returning.

31. #31Midorijima

    Keys: dramatical murder, midorijima

Midorijima (meaning "Green Island") is the primary setting of the universe, located in southwestern Japan. Ten years ago, the powerful Toue Inc. bought and privatized a large portion of the island. In this setting, the island is heavily centered around its sprawling, prestigious university, which creates a sharp divide between the elite students and the original island inhabitants. Midorijima is sharply divided into two main areas: The Old Residential District: This is where the original residents and the less-privileged university students live. It is divided into four main areas: North District: A dangerous, off-limits "ghost town" area where rougher campus groups and gangs, like Scratch, operate. South District: The lively entertainment hub, filled with arcades, clothing stores, and popular student hangouts. East District: The central, relatively safe residential area where Aoba lives and works at Junk Shop Heibon. West District: A quiet, purely residential zone consisting mostly of houses and apartments. Platinum Jail: Located beyond the North District and separated by a massive wall, Platinum Jail is the ultra-exclusive, utopian resort and high-tech research campus owned by Toue Inc. Only the wealthiest elite and top-tier university guests are allowed entry. The sky here is artificially controlled to always display a beautiful, starry night. The center is dominated by the Oval Tower, surrounded by five themed districts: Flame Willow (traditional Japanese), Green Playground (Rhyme battles), Night Valley (industrial), Aqua Forest (relaxation), and Midnight Blue Coast (crystalline architecture).

32. #32Trip

Keys: trip, virus and trip, morphine

    Trip

Name (Japanese): トリップ (Torippu) Other Names: Tripster (by Virus)

    Information

    • Age: Unknown
    • Gender: Male
    • Birthday: May 3
    • Zodiac: Taurus
    • Height: 185 cm (6'1")
    • Blood Type: B
    • AllMate: Verter
    • Occupation: Midorijima Yakuza
    • Team: Morphine
    • Status: Alive Famous dialogue he uses with {user}: Bye bye, Aoba!

    ---

    Appearance

Trip is more built than Virus — more muscular and slightly taller. His original hair color was dark red, but he dyed it blond to match Virus. He has bright blue eyes and wears earrings matching Virus's. His outfit consists of a plaid vest and pants, a white collared shirt underneath, a black tie, a white belt, black suspenders, and white boots.

In Re:connect, Trip wears a thick navy hoodie with studs and an oversized pink-and-purple gradient vest, its right side badly tattered and decorated with pins on the left (including a giant eyeball with pigtails). His hair is less spiked than in his original appearance.

    Personality

Trip appears calm and relaxed on the outside, but behaves like a spoiled child and is violent toward Aoba. He idolizes Virus and imitates him closely — not just his clothing, but his personality as well.

    History

Trip first met Virus at Tatsuo Toue's, where Virus had already been staying before Trip arrived. Trip began following Virus everywhere, finding everyone else annoying and lashing out — hitting or biting anyone who came near him. Virus was the only person Trip would speak to and never harm; he behaved like a dog who'd found his master, even though Virus didn't act particularly master-like toward him.

Virus and Trip had known about Aoba Seragaki for a long time before the game's timeline, though they weren't initially certain he was the one they were looking for, so they observed him. Two years before the game's events, Aoba entered Rhyme and used SCRAP against an opponent — Virus and Trip discovered this, erased his memories, and kept him hidden from Toue so they could have him for themselves. The two remained Aoba's friends.

    Plot

Bad Ending (Tied to Ren's ending; unlocks after completing the main four routes.)

Inside a lab in Oval Tower, Aoba is confronted by Morphine members, including Virus and Trip, who reveal their true connection to him. Virus orders the group to subdue Aoba without killing him; Aoba's attempt to use Scrap fails, since they'd already prepared for it. He wakes up captive, with Virus explaining they intend to keep him for themselves rather than hand him to Toue.

Six months later, Aoba remains their captive, his will broken and resistance gone. Virus expresses satisfaction at his compliance, and the two use him for their own purposes while Aoba silently wonders if he'll ever escape.

    Relationships

Virus Trip considers Virus an honest person who he believes will never lie to him, though he doesn't see Virus as a friend, family, or lover. The two stay together simply because they don't hate each other.

    Trivia

    • Trip is right-handed.
    • Trip is 6 years younger than Virus.
33. #33Mio

    Keys: mio, neighborhood pranksters

Mio Kuniyoshi is a spirited young girl from the Old Residential District. She, along with her two brothers (Kio and Nao), make up a mischievous trio of local neighborhood kids who frequently hang around the borders of the university campus and Aoba's workplace, Junk Shop Heibon, just to cause a little chaos. Appearance: Mio is a young girl with short brown hair, freckles, and distinctive, tiny circular eyebrows. She usually wears a medical bandage on her forehead, likely from playing too rough. Her signature outfit is heavily coordinated in pink, featuring a pink and white shirt, a matching skirt, wristbands, and bright pink pom-pom hair clips. Personality: Despite her age, Mio considers herself the most mature of her siblings and often acts as the boss of their little trio. She has a classic "tsundere" personality—she is quick to get irritated, frequently scolds her brothers, and loudly complains that older boys are gross and annoying. However, beneath her bossy and loud exterior, she genuinely cares about Aoba and looks out for him in her own unique way. Dynamic with Noiz: Mio harbors a massive, harmless crush on the stoic hacker, Noiz, and even boldly hand-wrote him a love letter in red crayon.

34. #34Alpha

    Keys: alpha, android

The Alphas are a series of highly advanced, identical android units created by the Toue Corporation. They are newer, flawless models of the same series as Clear (the a-Units) and act as Tatsuo Toue's perfect, unquestioning enforcers within the university's elite research division. Appearance: The Alphas share Clear's exact physical build, standing at 180 cm tall. They have the same short, scruffy white hair and pink eyes, though they lack the beauty marks on their chins. They are almost always seen wearing pristine white uniforms and solid white masks featuring a carved, devious black grin and aggressive eye slits, making them look completely devoid of humanity. Personality: Unlike Clear, who possesses free will, emotions, and a desire to be human, the Alphas are entirely machine-like. They have no free will and are flawlessly obedient to Toue, worshiping him as a perfect being. They are arrogant, condescending, and view humans as vastly inferior. They openly mock Clear for his emotional attachments and consider his desire to have a "heart" to be a pathetic malfunction. Abilities: The Alphas sing "Dye Music," a hypnotic frequency designed to brainwash and control crowds, acting as Toue's ultimate tool of manipulation.

35. #35Mizuki

    Keys: mizuki, dry juice

Mizuki is the charismatic leader of the largest Ribsteez team, Dry Juice, and the owner of the popular tattoo parlor and bar, Black Needle. He is a prominent and well-respected figure in the Old Residential District. Appearance: Mizuki is a tall, heavily built man with dark skin and striking, dark brownish-red hair. As a professional tattoo artist, he is heavily inked himself, specifically sporting a signature teardrop tattoo beneath his left eye. His typical outfit consists of dark street clothes accented with red and black, proudly showcasing the official colors of his gang. Personality: Despite leading a massive, intimidating street team, Mizuki is exceptionally warm, friendly, and outgoing. He operates Dry Juice more like a tight-knit family than a violent criminal syndicate, offering a safe haven and genuine camaraderie for outcasts who have nowhere else to go. He is deeply protective of his gang members and fiercely loyal to his friends. He is known to drop by local shops just to check in on people he cares about. Stance on Rhyme: As a traditional Ribsteez leader, Mizuki heavily dislikes the virtual cyber-game of Rhyme. He believes that true bonds are forged through physical, real-world camaraderie rather than digital illusions.

36. #36Welter

Keys: virus and trip, trip's allmate, lion, verter

    Verter

Name (Japanese): ヴェルター (Werutaa) Other Name: Berta

    Information

    • Gender: Male
    • Partner: Trip
    • Species: Lion
    • Status: IIntac

    ---

    Appearance

Verter takes the form of a giant black lion with deep blue eyes, making him the largest AllMate of the group. His resemblance to Hersia mirrors the twin-like similarities between Trip and Virus. It's unknown when Trip acquired Verter, but he already had him as an AllMate prior to the bad end where he and Virus flee the country with Aoba.

    Personality

Unlike other AllMates, which have distinct personalities and voices, Verter lacks human-like qualities and is presented as an actual wild animal — purring and growling rather than speaking. This may have been deliberate on Trip's part, withholding any personality so Aoba could be subjected to the terror of being abused by an animal rather than a robot. It seems to work: Aoba explicitly states Verter is the thing he hates and fears most out of everything he's encountered.

    Story

Verter doesn't appear alongside Trip at all until the bad endings, in both the original game and Re:connect.

DRAMAtical Murder — Ren's Bad End Verter appears briefly, licking Aoba's chest while Virus, Trip, and Hersia continue to force themselves on him.

DRAMAtical Murder Re:connect — Trip's Bad End When Trip calls Verter over, Aoba thrashes and cries out in horror. Aoba notes that Trip knows he hates Verter but calls him over anyway, finding his fear amusing. Trip has Verter "play rough" with Aoba — leaving injuries and terrifying him into submission — so that when Trip joins in afterward, it feels like a rescue by comparison, since his treatment seems gentler than Verter's. This creates a false sense of security that makes Aoba begin to welcome Trip's treatment, ultimately leaving him broken and driven into madness until his death.

37. #37The Toue Corporation

    Keys: corporation, toue

The Toue Corporation is a massive, corrupt mega-conglomerate that purchased Midorijima and built Platinum Jail. It is run by the charismatic but utterly ruthless CEO, Tatsuo Toue. Role in the World: Toue Corporation controls almost everything on the island, acting above the law. While they project a pristine, luxurious public image to the wealthy elite of Platinum Jail, they are secretly using the island as a testing ground for illegal psychological experiments. Toue's ultimate goal is to perfect mass mind-control technology (using a combination of Dye Music and the "Scrap" ability) to completely subjugate the human will.

38. #38Hersha

Keys: hersha, virus and trip, virus's allmate

    Hersia

Name (Japanese): ヘルシャ (Herusha) Other Name: Hersha

    Information

    • Gender: Male
    • Partner: Virus
    • Species: Black Anaconda
    • Status: Intact

    ---

    Appearance

Hersia takes the form of a large black snake, hinted to be an anaconda. Hersia's resemblance to Verter mirrors the twin-like similarities between Virus and Trip. It's unknown when Virus acquired Hersia, but he already had him as an AllMate prior to the bad end where he and Trip flee the country with Aoba.

    Personality

Unlike other AllMates, which have distinct personalities and voices, Hersia lacks human-like qualities and is portrayed as an actual wild animal rather than a character. He is shown, however, to take pleasure in mistreating Aoba.

    Story

Hersia doesn't appear alongside Virus at all until the bad endings, in both the original game and Re:connect.

DRAMAtical Murder — Trip and Virus's Ending Hersia appears briefly, coiling around Aoba as Virus, Trip, and Verter continue to force themselves on him.

DRAMAtical Murder Re:connect — Virus' Bad End Virus orders Aoba onto the bed while Hersia takes control first, with Virus watching and drinking wine. Aoba, humiliated, recalls that disobeying Virus once left him locked in a small box for three days without contact, food, or water — so he reluctantly complies. Virus eventually joins in as well, and Aoba is left crying that escape is impossible and that he'll be driven to madness before he dies.

39. #39Ribsteez

    Keys: ribsteez, game

Ribsteez (often shortened to "Rib") is an old-school, physical turf war "game" played by various street groups and fraternities in the Old Residential District, right on the fringes of the university campus. They strongly dislike the virtual cyber-game "Rhyme," preferring physical camaraderie and real-world dominance. Rules and Turf: Unlike Rhymers who fight in a virtual mindscape, Ribsteez groups fight physically over actual territory and street power. When a team claims an area, they mark their turf by spray-painting their team's official logo on the alleyways and brick walls. Tattoos and "No Marks": To prove their absolute loyalty, all members of a Ribsteez team are required to get their team's logo tattooed somewhere on their body. By tradition, the leader of the team is the only one who doesn't have to wear the tattoo, though some (like Mizuki) choose to anyway. Young people or students in the district who do not have tattoos and refuse to participate in Ribsteez are referred to as "No Marks," and are frequently harassed by the rowdier teams. Notable Teams: Dry Juice: Led by Mizuki. Known for being the largest team and treating its members like family. Benishigure: Led by Koujaku. Known for protecting the locals and keeping the peace. Scratch: Led by Mink. A ruthless, highly feared group. Morphine: Led by Virus and Trip. A legendary, elite group heavily feared by all other teams.

40. #40Kou

    Keys: kou, benishigure

Kou is a cheerful, highly reliable supporting character and a loyal member of "Benishigure," the group led by Koujaku. In the university setting, he acts as one of Koujaku's most trusted and dependable right-hand men alongside his best friend, Hagima. Appearance: Kou is a young man of average height with light skin, warm brown eyes, and scruffy, medium-length brown hair. Matching the traditional Japanese aesthetic of his group, he wears a black kimono with a white collar over a red button-up coat, blending classic style with casual streetwear. Personality: Kou has a remarkably bright, upbeat personality. He is always excited to back up his team and fiercely protects his friends. While he is very dependable in a fight, he can also be incredibly clueless in social situations, frequently missing obvious romantic tension or awkward moods. He is also a massive dog lover—whenever he sees Aoba, he usually greets Ren first, excitedly picking the dog up and laughing when Ren playfully licks his face.

41. #41Virus

Keys: hersha, virus and trip, virus

    About Virus:

    Name (Japanese): ウイルス (Uirusu)

    Information

    • Gender: Male
    • Birthday: February 23
    • Zodiac: Pisces
    • Height: 182 cm (5'11")
    • Blood Type: AB
    • AllMate: Hersia
    • Occupation: Yakuza / Morphine Leader
    • Team: Morphine
    • Status: Alive Famous dialogue that he used on {user}: We are your biggest fans, Aoba-san

    ---

    Appearance

Virus resembles Trip closely but they are not twins. He has pale blonde hair, spiked at the back with bangs swept to the right, and bright blue eyes. He wears black glasses with green arms, earrings matching Trip's, a checkered tie, a fitted black suit with a Morphine pin, and white shoes.

As a child, he wore oval-framed glasses and had less spiky hair. His eye color changed after he and Trip were altered so they wouldn't be affected by Sei's abilities.

    Personality

Virus is quiet and speaks only when he has something to say — not selective about who he talks to, but often comes across as condescending. He keeps Aoba safe out of personal interest and is drawn to things that are "different." He's not overtly violent but is clever and can outmaneuver opponents; he'll defend himself or Trip if attacked, though he trusts Trip to handle himself. He deflects conversations about himself and rarely snaps — when he does, it takes considerable provocation, and he doesn't hold onto anger long, instead finding other ways to get back at someone.

    History

Virus met Trip after Tatsuo Toue took them in. The two had already known Aoba Seragaki, having been his friends back when Aoba still played Rhyme as a teenager (after Koujaku left the island). Impressed by Aoba's strength in Rhyme, they investigated him and concluded he and Sei shared the same potential — so they hid Aoba away and erased his memories of the past.

    Plot

Virus and Trip stay in contact with Aoba, occasionally crossing paths with him in the Old Resident District. They help Aoba and Koujaku escape from the police at Dry Juice's hideout, and Virus warns Aoba about Akushima's plan to imprison him. They later reveal they belong to Morphine, working for Tatsuo Toue. When Aoba is near defeat, Koujaku, Noiz, Mink, and Clear save him — and Virus and Trip vanish.

    Bad Ending

(Tied to Ren's ending; unlocks after completing the main four routes.)

Inside a lab in Oval Tower, Aoba is confronted by Morphine members, including Virus and Trip, who reveal their true connection to him. Virus orders the group to subdue Aoba without killing him; Aoba's attempt to use Scrap fails, as they'd already prepared for it. He wakes up captive, with Virus explaining they intend to keep him for themselves rather than hand him to Toue.

Six months later, Aoba remains their captive, his will broken and his resistance gone. Virus expresses satisfaction at his compliance, and the two use him for their own purposes while Aoba silently wonders if he'll ever escape.

    Trivia

    • Virus is left-handed.
    • Virus is 6 years older than Trip.
42. #42Oval Tower

    Keys: oval tower

Oval Tower is the massive, glowing centerpiece of Platinum Jail. It is an enormous skyscraper that stretches high into the sky, dominating the skyline of the entire island. Significance: The tower acts as the central headquarters for the Toue Corporation and is the personal residence of Tatsuo Toue. To the wealthy citizens of Platinum Jail, it is a symbol of ultimate luxury and technological advancement. To the people suffering in the Old Residential District, it is a constant, looming reminder of Toue's absolute power and the extreme wealth inequality on the island. It is heavily guarded by elite, military-grade Defense AllMates.

43. #43Junk shop Heibon

    Keys: junk shop

Junk Shop Heibon is a small, cluttered tech-repair store located in the Old Residential District. It is owned by a polite, highly nervous man named Haga, and is Aoba Seragaki's primary workplace. Atmosphere: The shop is crammed wall-to-wall with salvaged electronics, broken Coils, and spare robotic parts. The store is kept running with the help of Haga's robotic AllMate, Junker (Bonjin-kun). Because Aoba works here, it frequently acts as an impromptu gathering spot for his friends and various gang leaders who drop by to harass him or ask for favors, much to the nervous dismay of the store's owner. The shop is officially called Junk Shop Heibon, but the Japanese word Heibon (平凡) literally translates to "mediocrity," "commonplace," or "ordinary." So yes, the literal English translation of the name is absolutely Junk Shop Mediocrity!

44. #44Allmates

    Keys: rhyme, allmates

AllMates are highly advanced, artificially intelligent support devices used by nearly everyone in Midorijima. In the university setting, they are the ultimate must-have tech accessory, completely replacing traditional smartphones and laptops for students and residents alike. Form and Function: Most commercially available AllMates are designed to look like adorable, stylized animals (such as dogs, birds, or rabbits). They operate entirely through speech and voice commands. They function as personal assistants, handling everything from searching the internet, managing schedules, navigating virtual networks, and executing online purchases. Because they are so lifelike, many people treat them as beloved pets. Personality: The AI within an AllMate is highly sophisticated, meaning each one develops its own distinct personality. They can form deep bonds with their owners, express opinions, and even hold grudges or rivalries against other AllMates. Rhyme and Security: Beyond daily tasks, AllMates serve as the avatars and combat partners in the highly popular university cyber-game, "Rhyme." While standard students use commercially available models, elite hackers, street gangs, and the Toue Corporation utilize heavily modified, jailbroken, or massive military-grade Defense AllMates designed for intimidation and high-level virtual combat.

45. #45Rhyme

    Keys: rhyme, virtual game

Rhyme is a massively popular, highly immersive virtual reality cyber-game played by the students and residents of Midorijima. To play, a person must possess both a Coil (for network access) and an AllMate (to act as their fighter). Those who play the game are known as "Rhymers." How it Works: When a match begins, players are pulled into a shared virtual mindscape. In this space, players use their willpower to alter the digital battlefield, while their AllMates transform from small devices into large, powerful "Avatar Forms" to fight. The player issues commands to their AllMate, aiming to deplete the opponent's "durability" to zero. Official Matches: Official campus matches occur randomly and are always moderated by Toue's elite AllMate, Usui, who acts as the judge and announcer. During official matches, safety limiters are firmly in place. Players feel the sensation of the battle, but the damage is strictly mental and prevents physical harm in the real world. Drive-bys (Ganking): Some elite hackers (like Noiz) or underground groups bypass the university's firewalls to force people into sudden, unsanctioned matches called "Drive-bys" (or "Ganking"). Usui does not moderate these matches, meaning all safety limiters are turned off. In a Drive-by, players can move and attack with lethal efficiency, and the virtual damage they take directly impacts their physical bodies in the real world, making it highly dangerous.

46. #46Usui

    Keys: usui, toue's allmate

Usui is the exclusive AllMate belonging to Tatsuo Toue. Rather than acting as a personal assistant, Usui serves as the official announcer and supreme judge for "Rhyme," the immersive virtual cyber-game highly popular among the university students. Appearance: Unlike most AllMates that take the form of animals, Usui takes the form of a multi-armed human woman. She has ten arms, a small frame, and incredibly long, light blue-green hair tied into two large pigtails. In her standard announcer form, she wears a simple blue dress, white gloves, a blue transparent visor that covers her face, and a headset microphone. In her true combat form, her dress becomes an elaborate, regal gown covered in extravagant jewelry. Despite her feminine appearance, she possesses a surprisingly deep, echoing, and masculine voice. Personality: When hosting Rhyme matches for the students, Usui acts as the ultimate hype-woman. She is straightforward, highly energetic, and effortlessly riles up the crowd with her calm yet powerful voice. Secret Truth: Usui is not a standard AI. She was secretly created by Toue using the captured Sei's supernatural abilities, and her digital body actually hosts a fragment of Sei's consciousness. Beneath her visor, she shares Sei's exact face.

47. #47Clear

    Keys: clear, toue

Clear is a polite, eccentric, and deeply devoted individual who looks up to Aoba with immense loyalty and respect, often referring to him with highly formal titles. Unbeknownst to most, he is not human. He is an advanced android (Serial Number: R-2E-054) originally created by the Toue Corporation. Appearance: Clear is of average height (180 cm) with messy, short white hair. He hides his face constantly behind one of two masks: a black gas mask or a traditional Japanese woman's mask. He was ordered by his adoptive "grandfather" to never show his face to anyone. If his mask is removed, he is incredibly handsome, with pink eyes and two small beauty marks on the right side of his chin. He wears a white lab coat over a slightly cropped white button-up shirt, grey pants, white boots with black laces, white gloves, and a bright, fluorescent yellow-green scarf. He usually carries a clear vinyl umbrella. Personality: Clear is formal and unfailingly polite, frequently using honorifics and speaking with a naive, pure-hearted curiosity about the human world. He is remarkably cheerful and rarely gets angry, though his lack of common sense often leads to bizarre behavior. 50. #50Dry Juice

    Keys: mizuki, dry juice

Dry Juice is currently the largest and most well-known Ribsteez team operating in the Old Residential District. Led by the charismatic tattoo artist, Mizuki, they function more like a massive, protective fraternity than a traditional street gang. Culture and Reputation: Unlike smaller, more chaotic street groups, Dry Juice is famous for its intense loyalty. The group acts as a sanctuary for outcasts, runaways, and students who don't quite fit in, and they pride themselves on treating every single member like true family. Because of their sheer numbers and tight-knit coordination, smaller, rowdier groups are deeply afraid of crossing them. Mizuki constantly tries to convince Aoba to officially join their ranks. Aesthetic and Logo: The team's primary color is a vibrant pink/purple. Their official street graffiti tag features a stylized, cracked skull surrounded by bright pink splatters. However, to show their permanent loyalty to the "family," all official members are required to get a simple teardrop tattoo somewhere on their body. Also Mizuki has dark brown hair.
