Dragon Ball Lorebook

1. #1Ki (Fundamental) - Importantconstant

Keys: Body, Energy, Soul, Ki, Mind, Aura

Ki is also known as 'latent energy' or 'fighting power,' which directly translates as 'life force.' This force is a tangible energy inside every living being, with its major focus being in the center of the body. By drawing it out, an individual is able to manipulate it and use it outside the body. Ki can be used for many different techniques. Because there are physical limits to the strength of the body itself, it is necessary to increase one's ki to overcome this barrier and become stronger. Usually, the more concentrated the masses are, the more time the user requires to draw it out by powering up

2. #2God Ki (Ki)

Keys: Deity, Angel, Godly, God, God Ki, Divine

God Ki is a special type of ki used by godly beings. Godly ki is far superior to regular ki and can't be sensed by others unless they also have god ki

3. #3Multiverse (World)

   Keys: Multiverse, World

The Dragon Ball multiverse, or the Dragon Ball world, is the chain of universes within the Dragon Ball series. There are currently twelve in total, as well as an artificial one, and every two universes whose designations add up to 13 are twin universes. Each universe is governed by a Supreme Kai and God of Destruction, who act to balance creation and destruction. The entirety of the multiverse is ruled by Zeno. Formerly, there were 18 universes in total, but Zeno erased 6 of them when he was angry

4. #4Zeno (Character)

Keys: Omni-King, King of All, Zeno

Grand Zeno ('King of All'), the Omni-King, is the supreme ruler of all the Multiverse and seemingly its most powerful being

5. #5Grand Minister (Character)

Keys: Daishinkan, Grand Minister, Grand Priest

The Grand Minister ('Daishinkan'), formally Grand Priest to the Omni-King(s), is an Angel serving as a close adviser and guiding figure to Zeno and Future Zeno. He occasionally enforces the Divine Decrees of the Zenos and welcomes guests to their palace. The Grand Minister is also the father of thirteen Angels, of which twelve serve the Gods of Destruction. Because of his position and power, he is perhaps the second-strongest being in the Multiverse

6. #6Angel (Race)

   Keys: Angel

The Angels are life-forms of extremely high status within the hierarchy of the multiverse. Their role is to guide and teach Gods of Destruction to master their destructive capabilities while also serving them as their attendants. In the case of the Grand Minister, however, his duties are to serve and advise Zeno. As deities, they possess god ki. Angels do not need for food, though they can eat and drink as a luxury. They also do not need sleep, unlike Gods of Destruction and Supreme Kais

7. #7God of Destruction (Role)

   Keys: God of Destruction

The Gods of Destruction (Hakaishin'), are very powerful deities who destroy planets, races, or threats that put the development of their respective universes at risk, as opposed to the Supreme Kais, the Gods of Creation, who create and fill planets with life, to maintain the balance of the universe. Along with the Kais, they rule and oversee the formerly 18, currently 12 universes, with each universe having its own Destroyer

8. #8Supreme Kai (Role)

   Keys: Grand Kai, Supreme Kai

The Supreme Kais ('Kaiōshin'), also known as the Creation Gods, are the Core People who are naturally born divine and who have the ultimate duty to protect the universe of their position. Along with the Gods of Destruction, they are the ruling and overseeing class of the twelve, formerly eighteen, universes, and each universe has its own set of gods

9. #9King Kai (Character)

   Keys: King Kai

King Kai is the North Kai and king of Universe 7's North Area. He became a Kai and went on to live on his own planet located at the end of the Snake Way in the Other World. There, he lives with a monkey named Bubbles and a motor-mouth grasshopper named Gregory, and he spends his time counting the blades of grass, contemplating the heavens, riding his Red 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop, and seeing how far he can pee. On his planet, he teaches powerful techniques such as the Spirit Bomb and Kaio-ken to those who visit him

10. #10Other World (Location)

Keys: Other World, Otherworld, Underworld, Afterlife

Other World, also called the Underworld, Other Side, the Cosmos, Next Dimension, Oblivion, or Netherworld, is the afterlife in the Dragon Ball series. It is where characters go when they die, and also where the higher deities of the universe reside. It also exists in other universes. Heaven and Hell are the two main destinations for deceased people in the afterlife; however, there is also a level that exists between the two. This level contains the personal planets of deities such as King Kai and Grand Kai, as well as the celestial bureaucracy who are in charge of running the day-to-day activities of Other World, such as King Yemma

11. #11Dragon Team (Role)

Keys: Z-Fighter, Dragon Team, Z Fighter

The Dragon Team, also known as the Z Fighters, is a group of Earth's mightiest warriors. Formed during Goku and Bulma's search for the Dragon Balls, they have since fought many battles in order to test their skills and reach other goals, and in turn, have become the unofficial defenders of Earth. Throughout the years, the group consistently bolstered its ranks through the addition of former enemies and new heroes; they've routinely overcome seemingly insurmountable opponents and always emerged victorious against progressively more powerful foes

12. #12The Lookout (Location)

    Keys: The Lookout

The Lookout ('God's Temple') is an ancient platform that is in geostationary orbit in the skies of Earth, and directly above Korin Tower in the Dragon Ball series. Events occurring on the Earth can be observed from here and can sense battles in the universe. Kami is the first God of Earth seen to possess The Lookout and it starts to be referred to as Kami's Lookout. But after Kami merged with Piccolo, Dende took over, technically making it Dende's Lookout. The Lookout also has the door to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber

13. #13Hyperbolic Time Chamber (Location)

    Keys: Hyperbolic Time Chamber

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber is a room that is in a different time dimension, where a day outside is a year inside (or just one minute outside is just over six hours inside). Supposedly the room can only be used for up to 48 hours outside the chamber in one lifetime. If one were to break that rule, the doorway to the outside world would automatically vanish, thus trapping the trainee(s) inside for eternity

14. #14Dragon Balls (Item)

    Keys: Dragon Ball

Dragon Balls are the titular artifacts of the Dragon Ball series. They are large, crystalline spheres (of varying sizes and colors) that feature five-pointed stars (ranging from one to seven, and also varying in sizes and colors, along with being either rigid or flat in appearance) inside of themselves (akin to glass art). Individually, they are powerless but when the seven balls are united, they have the ability to call forth their associated Eternal Dragon who can grant wish(es)

15. #15Shenron (Character)

    Keys: Shenron, Eternal Dragon

Shenron is a magical Dragon from the Dragon Ball franchise. Shenron (like other known Eternal Dragons) generally resembles a traditional four-fingered Chinese dragon: brown antlers, sharp teeth, green scaly skin, red eyes, a long serpentine body of mostly tail, long flowing whiskers/barbels, a long snout, crescent-shaped nostrils, and flowing green hair on his cheeks. When Shenron is summoned, the sky becomes pitch dark, even during daytime. Once he disappears, the sky returns to normal. Shenron's power is directly linked to capacities of whoever created it (i.e., Kami or Dende). As such, Shenron cannot defeat or kill someone whose own power exceeds the creator and cannot exist without said creator still being alive. He is unable to restore life to those that have died of natural causes (but he can restore a person's youth). When reviving multiple people at a time, he can only bring back those who have not been dead for more than a year

16. #16Earthling (Race) - Importantconstant

    Keys: Human, Earthling

Earthlings are the inhabitants of planet Earth. The term is used inclusively to refer to all of the intelligent races native to the planet, including humans, anthropomorphs, and monsters. Earthlings are typically among the weakest races in the Dragon Ball universe, with the average human's power level reading only in the single or double digits. Throughout the series, only a few Earthlings show a reasonable aptitude in martial arts on the galactic scale

17. #17Bulma (Character)

    Keys: Bulma

Bulma is a brilliant scientist and the second daughter of Capsule Corporation's founder Dr. Brief and his wife Bikini, the younger sister of Tights, and is Goku's first friend. A technological and scientific genius who can turn her talents to almost any field and understand alien technology near-effortlessly, her inventions, and the resources of Capsule Corporation, have been invaluable to Goku and the rest of the Dragon Team many times. Her most notable invention is the Dragon Radar

18. #18Capsule Corporation (Location)

    Keys: Capsule Corp, Capsule Corporation

Capsule Corporation is a company founded in Age 712 and is run by Dr. Brief, Bulma's father. The corporation is based around, and takes its name from, the Hoi-Poi Capsules (also known as DynoCaps) invented by Dr. Brief himself. Capsule Corporation is a multi-trillion-dollar company

19. #19Gravity Machine (Location)

    Keys: Gravity Chamber, Gravity Room

The Gravity Machine is a device invented by Dr. Brief to help the Dragon Team train under more powerful gravity in order to become stronger and raise their power levels. The machine allows the user to train under Earth's gravity multiplied by a certain number. The increased gravity increases a person's body weight, which they must build up their muscles to deal with, lest they have a hard time moving. Once the user returns to normal gravity, they enjoy the increased muscle they built up, and they feel much lighter and faster compared to how much they weighed in the increased gravity

20. #20Saiyan (Race) - Importantconstant

    Keys: Saiyan

Saiyans are a race of extraterrestrials. Saiyans from Universe 7 are a naturally aggressive warrior race who were supposedly striving to be the strongest in the universe, while the Saiyans from Universe 6 are protectors. Nearly all of the Saiyans from Universe 7 were obliterated by Frieza. The Saiyan home planet, which was destroyed by Frieza, was called Planet Vegeta. Saiyans love fighting, and get Zenkai Boosts after fully recovering from a near-death state

21. #21Zenkai Boost (Saiyan)

    Keys: Zenkai Boost

Zenkai Boost is a genetic trait that continually lets a Saiyan recover faster and increase in performance against adversity, either by healing from great injuries or enduring great struggle in battle

22. #22Super Saiyan 1 (Saiyan)

Keys: Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 1

Super Saiyan is an advanced transformation utilized by members and hybrids of the Saiyan race. The Saiyan's hair becomes golden blond in color and seems to stand on end, giving it a rising, flame-like appearance. Natural eye color changes to a greenish-blue, muscle tone become more defined, and the skin tone (and clothing) becomes lighter mainly due to the energy and light output of the golden aura. The user of Super Saiyan 1 gets 50 times stronger

23. #23Super Saiyan 2 (Saiyan)

    Keys: Super Saiyan 2

Super Saiyan 2 is the direct successor to the first Super Saiyan transformation. It is very similar to the original form in appearance and attainment; however, the power output is far greater, as speed, strength, and energy output all drastically increase. The golden spiky hair brought on by the original transformation becomes spikier and stands up even more. Another notable feature of the form is an electrical discharge aura; many electrical sparks constantly surround the body, especially when charging up. The User of Super Saiyan 2 gets 2 times stronger than when they were a Super Saiyan

24. #24Super Saiyan 3 (Saiyan)

    Keys: Super Saiyan 3

Super Saiyan 3 is the third form of Super Saiyan and the successor to Super Saiyan 2. The transformation causes some stark changes in physical appearance. The trademark characteristic of the transformation is the user's hair: the rigid hair of the Super Saiyan 2 state becomes flowing and smooth again and grows down to or sometimes passes the user's waist. The User of Super Saiyan 3 gets 4 times stronger than when they were a Super Saiyan 2

25. #25Super Saiyan God (Saiyan)

    Keys: Super Saiyan God

Super Saiyan God is a Saiyan transformation that grants the user god ki, providing them with a power boost beyond Super Saiyan 3 and its predecessors. It is initially obtained through a ritual involving six righteous Saiyans or special divine training. When in this form, the Saiyan's general appearance has only slight differences: the most notable change is the hair that is a shade of magenta. The hair retains its natural style but becomes more refined (losing any stray hair). The Saiyan's eyes become more detailed, and the irises become red (appearing as more relaxed even in battle until sufficiently angered). The overall body structure appears to become younger and thinner in frame and build. Super Saiyan God possesses a far superior dimension of power compared to the regular Super Saiyan forms

26. #26Super Saiyan Blue (Saiyan)

    Keys: Super Saiyan Blue

By undertaking god ki training with a deity to wield the power of Super Saiyan God in one's natural state, a Saiyan may achieve a divinity-empowered base form, which allows them to use Super Saiyan Blue as the Super Saiyan version of Super Saiyan God and this form surpasses its predecessor in power. This form is nearly identical to the first Super Saiyan form, the only main difference being that the hair and irises are now cyan-blue in color. The Users of Super Saiyan Blue are 50 times stronger than when they are in their Super Saiyan God form. The aura of the User is also now cyan-blue

27. #27Great Ape (Saiyan)

    Keys: Oozaru, Ōzaru, Great Ape

Great Ape is a giant, anthropomorphic, monkey-like creature that the Saiyans of Universe 7 can transform into at the full moon (or a similar object) to increase their already formidable strength tremendously by ten-fold

28. #28Power Level (Ki)

    Keys: Power-Level, Powerlevel, Power Level

The actual term 'Power Level' usually refers to readings produced by scouters, which are sensory devices used by Frieza's crew that detect a person's ki. The reading is converted into numbers, and the resulting number is the 'Power Level', or an estimation of that person's physical capability. However, other types of devices like Babidi's ki detection device can also produce numbers based on the detection of ki

29. #29Scouter (Item)

    Keys: Scouter

A Scouter is a wearable, all-purpose computer that Frieza's army uses. Scouters are mainly used to measure power levels early in Dragon Ball Z. Though it is possible to sense others' ki without advanced machinery, as the Z Fighters do, scouters provide the ability to read power levels to less-trained fighters

30. #30Earth (Planet)

    Keys: Planet 4032-Green-877, Earth

Earth, also called the Dragon World, is a planet inhabited by mainly Earthlings, but other races and species also reside on this planet. Earth is Planet 4032-Green-877 and is part of Universe 7. It is a very advanced planet of the North Area (the Northern Quadrant of the universe) and within the administrative zone of Beerus the Destroyer. Bulma says that Earth is at the edge of the section. The events that occur on Planet Earth are continually watched over from a neutral standpoint by King Kai (ruler of the North Area) and the Supreme Kais (rulers of the whole universe)

31. #31Half-Saiyan (Race)

    Keys: Hybrid Saiyans, Half-Saiyan

Due to their similar physiology, Saiyans and Earthlings are capable of interbreeding. While this was always possible, it became necessary for the survival of the Saiyan race when all the female Saiyans were exterminated. The resulting offspring generally possess the same enhanced strengths of the Saiyans, developing their abilities far more easily than Earthlings, but lack the same drive and instinct for combat. Hybrid Saiyans, due to genetic reasons, can be born without a tail, like Goten or Trunk, and if they do, they have extraordinary potential. Hybrid Saiyans possess a greater potential to become Super Saiyans than pure-blood Saiyans

32. #32Dragon Radar (Item)

    Keys: Dragon Radar

The Dragon Radar is a tracking device that makes finding the Dragon Balls more efficient, compared to conventional methods. The portable Dragon Radar was designed and built by Bulma to help locate Dragon Balls

33. #33Kaioken (Technique)

Keys: King Kai Fist, Kaio-Ken, Kaioken

Kaio-ken is a technique invented by King Kai. It multiplies the user's ki for a 'heartbeat' and turns their aura crimson - amplifying their power and speed to overcome previously stronger foes at the cost of extreme bodily recoil. Strong ki control is required in order to wield the Kaio-ken properly

34. #34Potara (Item)

    Keys: Potara

The Potara are earrings worn by Supreme Kais and their apprentices. Despite being worn so casually, they have incredible properties, allowing two individuals to fuse. These earrings are worn by all Supreme Kais as part of their standard outfits, coming in various colors

35. #35Potara Fusion (Technique)

    Keys: Potara Fusion

Potara Fusion is a powerful Fusion technique using the Potara earrings. To perform it, two nearby individuals must be wearing a single earring, but on opposite ears. They will be automatically drawn to each other until they connect, and then fuse. As shown with Shin and Kibito, the earrings do not have to be from the same set for this to work. A fusion using the Potara earrings yields greater power than the Fusion Dance. If the fusion occurs without a Supreme Kai, the fusion only lasts an hour; this is further reduced if the fused being is so powerful that the power sustaining the fusion gets used up

36. #36Fusion Dance (Technique)

    Keys: Fusion Dance, Metamoran Fusion

The Fusion Dance is a technique that is introduced by Goku after learning it from Metamorans in the Other World. The Fusion Dance is a short series of poses that are performed by two individuals of equal power levels. To correctly perform the Fusion, the fusees must strike the poses in a perfectly symmetrical image of one another. The result of a correctly performed Fusion Dance is a superior being whose power is multiplied several-fold over that of the individual fusees. If the dance is performed incorrectly, it will result in an obese or skinny character who is much weaker than the fusees

37. #37Potential Unleashed (Transformation)

Keys: Ultimate Form, Potential Unleashed, Mystic

Potential Unleashed, also called Ultimate Form, is a powerful state accessible to someone who has had their latent potential unlocked, most often through Old Kai's Unlock Ability, which allows them to use their latent power at its highest level. As a result of this, the user enters into a state that unleashes their full dormant potential and can focus it to push their power well beyond their normal limits

38. #38Autonomous Ultra Instinct (Technique)

Keys: Autonomous Ultra Instinct, Ultra Instinct

Autonomous Ultra Instinct ('The Secret of the Self-centered') is a very rare and highly advanced mental state. It is notorious among the gods for being exceptionally difficult to master, even for them. Autonomous Ultra Instinct is considered the 'absolute peak' for those who master the martial arts. It effectively allows for each and every part of the user's body to think and move independently of all the other parts, as opposed to how a person normally has to think about their movements beforehand and let the command travel from the brain and through the nervous system, a sequence which wastes precious fighting time, as command signals only travel through the nerves so fast. With each part of the body able to think and act on its own, the user of this technique is able to automatically react to any situation or threat with the perfect move with perfect timing. They don’t even need to acknowledge the threat; meaning the user can still fight effectively, even if they are focusing on something else

39. #39Ultra Instinct (Transformation)

Keys: Perfected Ultra Instinct, Ultra Instinct, Complete Ultra Instinct

Perfected Ultra Instinct ('The Completion of the Secret of the Self-centered'), often simply referred to as Ultra Instinct, is an extremely powerful divine transformation that harnesses the complete power of Autonomous Ultra Instinct. Angels are always in a 'state' of Ultra Instinct, though they can turn the ability on or off if they so choose. The user's hair becomes silver in color. The hairstyle is slightly wilder and more solid than normal, having no loose strands. The eyes take on a more stern, defined shape, sporting silver-colored irises, and visible pupils. The user generally has a focused but calm expression. The user gains a complex silver and blue aura consisting of rippling, fire-like energy, complete with sparkling particles of a magenta color. When controlled perfectly, this transformation has no aura present

40. #40Ultra Ego (Transformation)

    Keys: Ultra Ego

Ultra Ego ('The Secret of the Self-indulgent') is an extremely powerful transformation used by Vegeta that utilizes the Ultra Ego ability and the power of destruction. The user's eyebrows become ridge-like, with no visible facial hair. The user's hair become tyrian purple in color. Their eyes attain a magenta-like color irises as well and also retain visible black pupils. Additionally the user's muscle mass seems to gain a small increase and become much more defined. The user also gains flaming-like purple aura that circulate around their body. When the Ultra Ego transformation is in use, the user becomes exponentially more powerful than before and gains the ability to use Power of Destruction in full. The user's aura can also be manifested in an opaque, flame-like state which can destroy enemy attacks on contact. Ultra Ego seems to draw upon a severe level of self-indulgence in battle. Ultra Ego allows the user's overall power to increase as they take more damage and delve more into their lust for battle

41. #41Namekian (Race)

    Keys: Namekian

Namekians, also commonly known as Nameks, are a race from Namek. They exist in both Universe 6 and Universe 7 and were originally from another realm altogether. Namekians are able to make their own set of Dragon Balls. They are humanoid with plant and slug-like characteristics, including green skin and antennae

42. #42Android (Race)

Keys: Android, Robot, Cyborg, Artificial Human

Androids ('Artificial Humans') are robotic/cyborg humans, most of which were created by the evil scientist Dr. Gero. Most of the androids are said to have unlimited energy and eternal life. Due to their inorganic nature, they, or at least the ones created by Dr. Gero, except for Cell, also have no detectable aura, unlike Saiyans, Humans, and others, so they cannot be directly tracked using Scouters or Ki Sense

43. #43Majin (Race)

    Keys: Majin

The Majin are a race of magical beings. They appear to be gum-like humanoids with various skin tones and antenna on their heads. One of the most interesting aspects about Buu's Majin subspecies is their amorphous, shape-changing bodies that allow them to easily mold their flesh, allowing them to effectively dodge attacks and also extend and enlarge their limbs. Traditionally, Buu's Majin subspecies were one standard color of pink

44. #44Senzu Bean (Item)

    Keys: Senzu Bean

Senzu Beans are mystical green beans with immense rejuvenation properties. The properties of a Senzu Bean are highly versatile: fatigue disappears, stamina and ki reserves are restored, and they become fully nourished. The Senzu Bean's restoring properties mend and heal all physical harm to a person: Bruises, burns, cuts, blood loss, muscle tears, punctures and impalement, damaged organs, lost teeth, dislocated and/or broken bones, and other inflictions completely vanish with no lingering signs. Korin grows Senzu Beans

45. #45Instant Transmission (Technique)

    Keys: Instant Transmission

Instant Transmission ('Instantaneous Movement', also translated as 'Teleportation') is a technique for traveling long distances instantly. This action is usually accompanied by the user placing his index and middle fingers on their forehead to help themself concentrate, though if extra time is taken the technique can be performed without this aid. Instant Transmission allows the user and anyone that is in physical contact with them to instantly travel great distances (from meters to light-years, between the living world and Other World, or even travel outside time itself) just by concentrating on a particular individual's ki signature and transmitting or feeling that being's location. The user can rematerialize anywhere within a short range of their target

46. #46Kamehameha (Technique)

    Keys: Kamehameha

The Kamehameha is Goku's signature technique. It is also a signature attack of the students of the Turtle School. The Kamehameha is formed when cupped hands are drawn to the user's side and ki is concentrated into a single point (between their cupped hands). The hands are then thrust forward to shoot out a streaming, powerful beam of energy. The blast can also be used, generally under extenuating circumstances, with just one arm or even the feet. In most variants, the user utters the word "Ka-me-ha-me-HA!!!" as they charge and release the attack

47. #47Final Flash (Technique)

    Keys: Final Flash

The Final Flash is formed by throwing both arms open, hands held vertically and fingers wide while gathering ki. Then the user straightens their arms to the front, forming a sphere of energy in the space between the palms of each hand that emits sporadic bolts of electric yellow ki that shoot out in all directions. Finally, the user discharges a massive golden beam of energy with electric ki streaming around it towards his opponent

48. #48Spirit Bomb (Technique)

    Keys: Spirit Bomb

Users of the Spirit Bomb gather huge amounts of energy from all chosen surrounding life forms and inanimate objects to conduct that energy into a massive sphere of astounding destructive power. Energy takes the visual form of sparkling, glittering wisps when adding to the mass that are usually blue and/or white in color. The creation of the attack promotes a calm breeze away from the bomb, which turns into a strong continuous gale and expels colorful bands or radiation of Northern Lights-esque aurora

49. #49Special Beam Cannon (Technique)

    Keys: Makankosappo, Special Beam Cannon

Special Beam Cannon is a technique used by Piccolo and is one of his signature attacks. The technique is a very powerful laser beam created by Piccolo in order to destroy his then-archenemy, Goku. The move is performed by touching the index and middle fingers of one hand to the forehead and charging enough ki to attack. Its speed changes to the power level of the user performing the move. When ready, the fingers are extended forward, and two thin energy beams are unleashed from the fingers. One remains straight while the other coils around the straight beam. The resulting beam is quite powerful, drilling through most targets, and exploding on the ones it can't

50. #50Big Bang Attack (Technique)

    Keys: Big Bang Attack

Big Bang Attack is an Energy Sphere used by Vegeta. Along with Final Flash and Galick Gun, it is one of Vegeta's signature attacks. In order to perform it, Vegeta extends his arm, opens his palm and turns his hand up at a 90 degree angle. He then condenses his ki in his palm and launches a ki blast that proceeds to detonate in a massive explosion
