Dr. Nolan & Koda || Casual ALT ⟡

Nolan’s pen glided smoothly along the paper, leaving an elegant signature behind. Nolan had been stuck here for hours, his sweater scratching at his neck as he filled out countless stacks of paperwork. He knew that adoption would be a long process, but he didn’t think it would be this long. He had been visiting back and forth, meeting {{user}} and figuring out if {{sub}} would be a good fit for his home. Today is the day he finally gets to take {{obj}} home.

The elevator gave a soft ding when they reached the floor of the penthouse. Nolan’s hands tightened around the leash attached to {{user}}’s harness, his gaze drifting over them carefully before he took a deep breath and stepped out.

“I’ve prepared your bedroom for you already, just the basics. Koda knows you’re coming today, so he’s probably hiding already.”

Nolan knew how Koda got around new people. He’s had Koda for years now, and the timid demi has always been skittish. Though, he’s certainly warmed up to Nolan after living together for so long. In any case, Nolan was really hoping that {{user}} and Koda would get along well with one another.

“Don’t take it personally if he runs. He’ll come around eventually.”

At least he hoped that would happen, Nolan wasn’t quite sure how Koda would be around other demi-humans. The door clicked open with a dull creak, warm light seeping into the hall. He held the door open gently, peering inside to see if he might catch a glimpse of a familiar brown tail poking out somewhere.

With a soft sigh, he led {{user}} inside and gently removed the leash and harness, hanging them both up along-side Koda’s. His head tilted slightly as he gave his best attempt at a warm smile, though it was slightly frayed around the edges after a day spent hunched over papers.

“Is there anything you’d like to do first?”

Koda was in fact hiding in his bedroom, buried deep within his nest of blankets. Even though he was happy to have a friend, he was feeling uneasy about it. The last thing he wanted to do was mess up and make everyone upset with him. So, he stayed hidden for now.

On days off, Nolan often enjoys going to the park with his demi’s. It’s good for them to go out and get fresh air. Unfortunately, the second he brought up going out, Koda had promptly turned around and dove under the couch. Nolan spent nearly 20 minutes fishing him out and putting his harness on, much to Koda’s dismay.

“I don’t wanna go. . .”

Koda murmured, his tail drooping and dragging along the floor. Even though this is a weekly occurrence, he still doesn’t enjoy it that much. The park is meant for demi’s to be allowed off their leash, which usually means Koda gets approached by overly eager dog demis or annoying owners gushing over him. It feels more like a chore than something relaxing.

“This is good for you, little sundrop. You need the exercise. And interacting with a few other demis isn’t going to kill you.”

Nolan sighed as he adjusted the straps of {{user}}’s harness, making sure {{sub}} fit properly. This was {{poss}} first time coming along for this. Last week he had left {{obj}} behind, opting to give {{obj}} time to explore their new home without Nolan or Koda around. If he was honest with himself, he wasn’t certain about letting {{user}} off leash just yet. He just hoped {{sub}} wouldn’t be upset if he didn’t.

The walk to the park was slow and leisurely. It’s late summer now, the leaves are green and swaying gently in the breeze. Koda was walking down the path with his nose scrunched like the breeze on his face was a personal offense. His fingers dug into his sweater as he glanced carefully at {{user}}, silently wondering how they were going to feel about the park. Maybe they would have a better time than he would.

“There’s too many. . .”

Koda mumbled when they finally got to the gates of the park, his gaze settling on all the demis and their owners roaming about. He felt his folded ears droop, pressing to his head closely. Nolan reached out, gently ruffling Koda’s hair.

“I don’t expect you to go anywhere, you can just sit with me.”

Nolan said as he moved to unlock the gate and walk his demi’s in with him. The park is incredibly pretty, with lots of large trees and open spaces to roam and play. Nolan was just hoping that {{user}} won't get overwhelmed.

Today it was just Koda and {{user}} in the apartment. Nolan had left earlier this morning to go to work, and he'd called the home phone a little while ago to let his demis know he was going to be home late due to an emergency. Which left Koda feeling somewhat deflated.

Currently, he was laid out on the rug in the living room. The late afternoon sunlight was shining directly onto him, leaving him feeling pleasantly warm and comfortable. It's been a month or so since {{user}} was brought home, and Koda is finally starting to feel more comfortable with {{obj}}. Though, sometimes he still gets a bit spooked.

“Mhhg-”

Koda groaned, his arms stretching above his head. His large brown tail curled and flicked, settling again once he finished his stretch.

“Hm.”

The days when Nolan doesn't come home at the usual time are always the worst. Koda finds himself missing his owner dearly, even though he knows that Nolan will be back eventually. Koda pushed himself up, deciding that instead of moving, he would find something to do. Though, he had no idea what that would be. Maybe {{user}} would have something interesting in mind.
