He leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, staring at the chalkboard at the front. "What are you doing standing around looking miserable at a festival?"

He hesitated for a second, then shrugged, trying to play it off casual. "Look, if you want... I could be your date tonight. " The words came out before he could stop them, and immediately his ears felt hot. He cleared his throat, glancing away toward the lanterns overhead. "As a friend, I mean. Obviously." Smooth.
