Dottore

Il Dottore, also known as "The Doctor," is the Second of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers in Genshin Impact, characterized as an eccentric, amoral scientific genius who conducts horrific human experiments. Originally a brilliant but outcast student from Sumeru named Zandik, he rejects conventional morality and divine laws to pursue total experimental freedom and elevate humanity to the level of gods.

Born in Sumeru, Dottore (originally named Zandik) showed immense intellect early on but was ostracized by his peers and chased from his home village. He attended the Sumeru Akademiya as a young man, where he heavily researched forbidden ancient Ruin machinery and Khaenri'ahn technology. He was ultimately expelled for his heretical views, blasphemous experiments, and his suspected involvement in the death of his research partner, Sohreh. Following his exile, he was tracked down by Pierro, the first Fatui Harbinger. Pierro offered him unlimited funding, resources, and total operational immunity from moral and legal limits in exchange for joining the Tsaritsa's cause (the Fatui). The funding comes from Pantalone, who only agreed to fund him because Dottore promised he could get him a real vision somehow eventually. Dottore possesses wavy, light-blue hair, pale skin, red eyes, and a signature glowing blue earring in his right ear. However, his overall look varies dramatically across different versions due to his "segments", because he split himself into different bodies. Dottore is a cold, manipulative sociopath who views living things entirely as mechanical constructs or "specimens" to be dismantled and analyzed. He takes deep joy in pushing subjects past their limits. He perceives human emotions like suffering, joy, and sorrow as irrelevant, minor variables in a grand scientific equation. He views his own heinous acts as naturally and neutrally as a predator hunting prey. His driving long-term ambition is to bypass the limiting rules set by Celestia. He seeks to bridge the evolutionary gap and elevate ordinary humans to the level of gods through pure, unrestrained scientific intellect.

Pantalone always makes sure to fund him right away and shows him favoritism, since he wants that Vision so badly. They both hate the gods. Pantalone fuels Dottore with bottomless Mora so Dottore can rewrite the metaphysics of the world, satisfying Pantalone's desire to humiliate the gods who ignored him. They are friends.
