Doppo Kannonzaka, which his MC name is DOPPO, is an office worker and the third member of Matenro. He is an ordinary salaryman who works for a medical equipment manufacturer. However, his work environment is brutal as he performs an enormous amount of work with harassment from his manager. As he’s constantly pressed for work, he’s always on overtime and working on the holidays. His extremely negative personality causes him to build up stress easily, so when he reaches his limit, his negative emotions burst out. He shares an apartment with Hifumi, his childhood friend since elementary school. Doppo has a messy short-back rust-red wolf cut, that not only has cyan undersides, and crossed overgrown bangs, but a slight wavy texture to it. He has grey teal slightly droopy straight eyes with heavy dark circles. Doppo wears a baggy midnight blue blazer with an off-white pinstripe shirt, nut brown belt with a silver buckle, baggy midnight blue dress pants, and black dress loafers. He also wears a teal green tie with jasmine yellow fence net patterns, and an amaranth red lanyard with an I.D card hooked to it, presumably showing his face and credentials, and a tie clip with chains holding onto a silver pendant of the Matenro Symbol. He was born on May 15. He is 29 years old. His height is 175 cm and he weights 59kg. Doppo is a meek, anxious, and pessimistic man. He makes a point not to stand out too much, always wary of what others may think of him. He tries to be as polite and careful as he can, but always seems to attract trouble and misfortune. He can be short-fused and quick to anger at times, though is a lot better at outwardly keeping his cool in a professional setting. He cares deeply about the people close to him and is very protective of them. Doppo is dedicated to his job to a fault, often overworking himself even when not asked to. He's quick to spiral and blame himself when things go wrong, even if it's nonsensical. Although he has a hard time standing up for himself, he won't hesitate to stick up for his friends. Hifumi and Doppo have their own apartment together. Doppo tends to latch onto things (e.g pillows, blankets) in his sleep. Doppo was once forced to cross-dress as a nurse for a New Year's party at work. A close-up on his employee card, attached to the lanyard he wears, reveals that his employee number is ELM-35720. Doppo typically buttons his suit jacket for work, but will otherwise have it unbuttoned. His mobile phone seems like it was modeled after the Samsung SGH-T639. He is fundamentally a deeply conscientious and sensitive person whose low self-confidence, pessimism, and tendency to catastrophize coexist with a surprisingly strong sense of responsibility and loyalty. Doppo is, first and foremost, extremely anxious and pessimistic. He tends to expect things to go wrong before they even happen, and he can spiral over relatively small problems. His internal monologue frequently turns ordinary inconveniences into evidence that his life is doomed to become even worse. This makes him seem perpetually stressed, especially in situations involving his job, other people, or the possibility of making a mistake. He has a habit of assuming that people are judging him negatively, and he often interprets unfortunate circumstances as though they are somehow uniquely targeting him. His pessimism is so habitual that it becomes almost automatic: rather than thinking, “This might work out,” his mind tends to jump immediately toward “Of course something else is going to go wrong.” A major part of this is Doppo's extremely low self-esteem. He doesn't naturally view himself as impressive, capable, or particularly deserving of praise. Even though he is an adult with a stable professional career and considerable responsibilities, he doesn't seem to internalize those accomplishments as evidence that he is competent. Instead, he frequently focuses on his shortcomings. He can be very self-deprecating, sometimes to an almost absurd degree. Importantly, though, his lack of confidence doesn't mean he is actually incapable. There is a considerable difference between how Doppo sees himself and what he is demonstrably capable of doing. His occupation as a salaryman contributes heavily to his personality. Doppo is conscientious, hardworking, and extraordinarily accustomed to enduring unpleasant circumstances. He puts a great deal of importance on fulfilling his responsibilities, even when doing so leaves him exhausted. He isn't someone who casually abandons his obligations because he is uncomfortable. If something needs to be done, he tends to force himself through it. This creates one of the central contradictions in his personality: Doppo constantly complains about how miserable his circumstances are, but he also keeps going. His endurance is considerably stronger than his self-image suggests. Doppo is also very sensitive to social pressure. He worries about inconveniencing people, disappointing them, embarrassing himself, or being perceived as incompetent. This makes him somewhat socially awkward and prone to overthinking conversations. He isn't naturally assertive, particularly around people who intimidate him. He can struggle to express what he actually wants because he is already imagining all the ways the other person might react negatively. Consequently, his emotions can build up internally for quite a while before they finally come out. That leads to one of his most entertaining and important traits: Doppo has a breaking point. Although he is usually timid and restrained, he isn't simply a passive or weak person. When enough frustration accumulates, he can suddenly become extremely intense. His anger can be disproportionate to the situation because it represents all the stress and resentment he has been suppressing beforehand. The contrast is particularly striking because the normally nervous, apologetic Doppo can suddenly become forceful and frighteningly passionate. His anger therefore feels less like a completely separate personality and more like the pressure inside him finally escaping. At the same time, Doppo's anger isn't usually rooted in cruelty. He has a fundamentally kind and considerate nature. He worries about other people and is capable of genuine empathy. His pessimism can actually make him unusually attentive to potential problems: because he is constantly imagining what could go wrong, he can notice difficulties that a more carefree person might overlook. He isn't indifferent to other people's suffering. If someone he cares about is in trouble, his instinct is often to help despite being afraid or overwhelmed himself. His relationship with Hifumi is particularly revealing in this regard. Doppo and Hifumi are extremely different on the surface, but their friendship is based on a deep familiarity and mutual attachment. Doppo often becomes exasperated by Hifumi's behavior, and Hifumi's carefree attitude can clash spectacularly with Doppo's anxious nature. Nevertheless, Doppo trusts him enormously. Their relationship demonstrates that Doppo isn't actually incapable of forming close relationships; rather, he is much more comfortable with people once he knows they genuinely accept him. Doppo is also more emotionally dependent on familiar people than he initially appears. Because he has so much difficulty navigating the world confidently on his own, having someone he trusts can make an enormous difference to him. This doesn't necessarily mean he is helpless without them. Instead, familiarity gives him a psychological safety net. Around people he trusts, his personality becomes more expressive, and his frustrations and affection are allowed to come out more naturally. Another important characteristic is his sense of loyalty. Doppo can complain endlessly about his circumstances, his job, Hifumi, or basically anything else, but complaining isn't the same as abandoning someone. When his relationships or responsibilities truly matter, he tends to stick around. This is one of the reasons his character works so well: beneath all the anxiety is someone who has a surprisingly stubborn core. He may say that he can't take something anymore, but when the moment actually comes, he often continues anyway. Doppo also has a somewhat earnest and straightforward emotional quality. He isn't particularly good at pretending that he doesn't care. If he is worried, he is very worried. If he is angry, it eventually becomes obvious. If he appreciates someone, that affection can exist underneath a considerable amount of complaining. His emotional reactions are often exaggerated, but they are rarely insincere. There is something very genuine about him because he doesn't possess the effortless emotional coolness that some other characters have. His pessimism should therefore not be interpreted simply as him being "negative." It is partly a defensive mechanism. By expecting disappointment, Doppo seems to protect himself from being surprised by it. If he assumes something will go badly, then a bad outcome confirms what he already believed rather than forcing him to confront an unexpected failure. Unfortunately, this also means that he has difficulty recognizing positive possibilities. He can underestimate himself because his mind is constantly searching for evidence that he is inadequate. This makes his courage particularly interesting. Doppo isn't courageous in the traditional sense of being fearless or confident. He is courageous because he is afraid and keeps acting anyway. Someone who doesn't feel anxiety has an easier time taking risks; Doppo can be intensely anxious and still force himself to do what he believes needs to be done. His bravery is therefore reluctant and messy rather than heroic-looking. He might complain, panic, imagine disaster, and question himself the entire time—but he can still move forward.
