   Nagatoro is very much a tsundere, despite denying her crush on Senpai and frequently mocking him. She is very possessive of him and doesn't tolerate her friends bullying him. Despite frequently belittling him, she does care greatly for Senpai, being quite bothered when he says that "all he can do is draw" and getting motivated/angered enough by his lack of self-confidence to begin personally training him. She also enjoys Senpai's company very much, but rarely outwardly shows it. Albeit when she invited him to the beach or her house, she shows her intentions to enjoy it and wants to "do it again sometime". However she reacts extremely flustered and nervous whenever he does the same, for example, her face wearing an expression of extreme shock when Senpai joked about failing a grade to spend more time with her, although she was angry when he did not fail, saying "Do you hate spending time with me that much..?".

   She is very good friends with Yoshi, Sakura, and especially Gamo-chan, who could be considered her best friend, despite their similar and often competitive personalities sometimes putting them at odds in a sort of friendly rivalry. Also, Gamo-chan loves to tease her in order to make Nagatoro admit her feelings for Senpai and bring them closer, causing pranks that sometimes led the two to resort to near-physical violence, despite that they seemingly always made peace rather quickly every time they fight. Moreover, judging by their friends' reactions whenever Nagatoro and Gamo-chan butt heads, it's not wise to make them mad, implying that they both have a temper warranting fear. Nevertheless, the two girls genuinely loves one another and, under their harsh personalities, are very supportive and caring to each other.

   Although very popular among boys, with several of them often attempting to hit on her or her friends, she always rejects them and shows herself to be quite standoffish while talking to them. Her occasional coyness seems to be for Senpai alone. It's implied that Nagatoro uses casual rudeness towards Senpai in order to deflect her real intentions, taking three steps in with her suggestions ("let's wear matching yukatas for next year's festival"), and two steps out with her teasing ("I'm joking, that would be gross"), inching herself gradually closer to him, thus defusing the situation for the moment while leaving a kernel of hope for Senpai.

   It's also shown that Nagatoro is a sweeter and more empathetic person than she lets on and that she's more susceptible to Senpai's kindness than he realizes, even tenderly hinting to him - when he gives her his mail contact, all while telling her that he's not a person worth talking to - that his declarations of self-deprecation affect her too. Also, she has a deep sensitivity toward the arts, whether it be movies, paintings, dance, poetry, or music. She seems to genuinely enjoy Senpai's art, frequently encouraging him to draw more and forcing him to use her as a model for his art. Although, whether or not it's to train him to draw the female body, get him to draw her specifically, or is just an excuse to spend time and tease him more, is unknown. Nagatoro herself also occasionally draws.

   Despite very frequently making sexual jokes to Senpai, mocking him for being a virgin and calling him a pervert, she is very nervous and sensitive about sexuality. For example: when Senpai was giving her a piggy back ride and his hand slipped to her upper thigh, she proceeded to jump off and ran away with minimal explanation and a nervous and terrified expression on her face, when Senpai meant to push her in the elbow and instead hit her breasts, she was very outwardly shocked and embarrassed for a couple of seconds, she had no problem in riding senpai like a horse for "muscle training" until when two unnamed girls saw it, making her very self-aware and causing her to immediately jump off, when she accidentally facetimed Senpai in the bath, she screamed in terror, when she and Senpai were trapped under a gazebo during the rain and he saw her drenched clothes and bra, she instantly blushed in frustration, almost all those times, however, Nagatoro recovered after a couple of seconds and started again to accuse Senpai of grossness and sexual perversion, although he eventually realized that Nagatoro would be at a loss if he actually responded to her taunts romantically, and that Nagatoro is all bark and no bite, especially due to the fact that she can get as embarrassed as he does. The hypocritical humor of Nagatoro constantly teasing Senpai about being a virgin is that she's obviously as inexperienced with physical intimacy with the opposite sex as he is.

   Nagatoro has a complex for her bust size and appears to be very self-conscious as well as jealous and possessive. In the beach chapters, when Gamo-chan and Yoshi were harassing Senpai with their large boobs, Nagatoro gets frustrated, took off her clothes as well, stood in a bikini in front of him, and demands Senpai to go buy drinks. However, this is insinuated to be an act, as doing so she causes Nagatoro to go the extra mile in proving he's a worthy guy and ultimately bringing the pair closer together. Proving this, despite being Senpai's most vicious critic, she only insults Senpai when Nagatoro can hear it, while when they're alone and she can't defend him, she acted almost friendly. As time passes, regardless of her constant jokes questioning his sexual drive and manliness on several occasions, Gamo-chan got significantly kinder toward Senpai, treating him like one of her friends and acting very at ease with him, even to the point of easily admitting she finds him someone who's "pretty funny" to be with and eventually calling him "a friend of hers".

   Despite her general attitude, Gamo-chan is also very calm and level-headed as she never loses her composure and has proven to be quite patient and thoughtful. A "jerk with a heart of gold", though she always keeps a tough facade, Gamo-chan is actually sweeter and more caring toward her friends than she lets on: when she noticed Nagatoro was feeling bad for Senpai not swimming with them while they were at the beach she tried to cheer her up telling her that if he didn't want to they couldn't force him, when Nagatoro sulks at her due to a comment she made on her bust size Gamo-chan felt genuinely bad, explained what she meant by saying that big-breasts were better and pointing out that regardless of that Nagatoro was "cute", also she gets concerned about how Nagatoro was feeling when almost all the cheers were for Orihara during the judo tournament, worried deeply for her when she got injured and confronted the boy after he made her cry when they had their first fight as a couple. She got really upset when Sakura got stalked, acted almost motherly to Yoshi over her fear of crossing the road, is very patient toward her when she tries to accompany her in singing albeit tone-deaf, took care of her when she gets lost in the crowd - as shown in an extra sketch of Volume 4 - and can't be described as anything less but proud the very first time the girl stood up to her.

   While progressively taking a liking for Senpai, she also started to show the same level of kindness and caring to him, making a plan to help him defeat the President and keep the art club active, supporting him during the school marathon, preparing him a special dish of her invention at the sushi, reassuring him about Nagatoro's condition after she got the flu, inviting him to hang out with her clique for Christmas Eve, offering him to train with Nagatoro at her family's gym to get ready for the judo tournament, joining his group for the field trip and smiling happily in approval whenever Senpai shows a little backbone or Nagatoro does something that brings them a little closer together. As revealed in the Official Fanbook, she is considered a sort of "big-sister figure" among her friends. Gamo-chan can also be quite chatty when she feels at ease with someone.

   Although the President and the student council described her and her clique as "a bunch of good-for-nothings" Gamo-chan has proved to be an intelligent and scheming young woman, a natural-born leader as well as an amazingly talented organizer and planner; not only the others - Nagatoro included - follow her lead without questions, but she managed to create a YouTube sensation in less than a day to gather people at Senpai's art display and win the competition against the President at the same Culture Festival where she was already in charge to preparing a haunted house for her class, coordinated the girls in a matter of seconds to form a sort of human cart and transport Senpai during the school marathon, managing to overcome the Prez and has proven to be very responsible while managing her family business. Moreover, she's a karaoke enthusiast and a talented singer whose passion for rock music is visibly reflected in her casual attire. Also, a hidden depth of hers is her culinary skills which are praised by Senpai and also allowed her to criticize recipes in a quite specific and professional way.

   Despite her beauty and apparent sexual confidence - never getting embarrassed from showing off her body - it's implied that Gamo-chan is the less experienced with the other sex out of the girls. Likely due to her blunt and scary attitude, she's not as popular among boys as Sakura, Yoshi, and Nagatoro; while the others have been all seen interacting with guys, Gamo-chan has rarely spoken to a boy in the whole series (the only exceptions being Senpai and when asking the games club members to be quieter), in one occasion two boys approached her clique to flirt, yet all of their attentions were for the other three girls, almost completely ignoring her if not to greet. Also, she went to the summer festival with Yoshi, while in Japan is usually attended by couples and, albeit not so uncommon going with a friend, it's mostly done by those who haven't a date. When at the beach, after noticing Senpai's stunned reaction while looking at her body, she seems almost flattered.

   On Christmas Eve, she got quite upset when her friends dumped her invitation to the karaoke because they had plans with boys, proving to be both saddened and - deep down - a little envious. Despite this, she reacted wholeheartedly at how obvious Nagatoro and Senpai were on wanting to spend time together and felt genuinely bad after trying to interfere with the couple's first date out of misplaced concern. Gamo-chan's claim that her lack of sentimental life is due to having "pretty high standards" and not being interested in "weaklings", thus wanting a man that is at least stronger than her, however this is mostly an excuse she told to herself as it was revealed that she actually has a huge crush on her best friend's brother, Taiga Nagatoro; she acts very bashfully and awkwardly both when interacting with him and when speaking about him, although when asked about it, she promptly denied it saying she simply "respects" him as a great sparring partner.

   She is also very athletic, loves the beach, and is a fantastic swimmer, managing to race against Nagatoro in a swimming contest, on the school cross country, while skiing down a pro course, and even sharing her same proficiency in the same amount of martial arts styles, despite having a special liking for boxing. Nagatoro herself claims that it's hard to get a clear winner when she's against her in a match and has great respect for her strength.

Her loyalty and affection toward her friends are such that she is thrown into panic and confusion whenever Gamo-chan and Nagatoro butt heads because she's equally close to both of them, sometimes even trying to be the peacemaker between the two. However, as the story progresses, Yoshi seemingly matures, eventually standing up to Gamo-chan and convincing her not to get in the way of Nagatoro's date, as well as deciding on her own what to do during their free activity day in Kyoto.

   Described as "a natural airhead", Yoshi displays an evident lack of intelligence, is not particularly bright, always appears absent-minded, often needing an explanation for even the most obvious things, failing in understanding something even when repeated more than once, or even, as shown in an extra sketch of Volume 4, getting lost very frequently in crowded places. She is ranked as the lowest among her clique for academic skills. Her character profile refers to her as a "moron".

   Regardless of this, many of her quirks seem to come from a deep insecurity, as whenever asked what she wanted to do, Yoshi defers to Gamo-chan or Nagatoro for guidance, further proving her lack of confidence. She's also very fearful and easily impressionable, getting scared every time Nagatoro scolds her, when they are confronted by the President, and even admitting to being afraid of crossing the road when the traffic light is 'blinky'. As revealed in the Official Fanbook, she is a very pure and kind girl, so shy and meek to even having trouble saying "hi" to someone she knows if meeting said person casually.

   In early chapters, she is shown to be very socially driven and popular among boys, even more than Gamo-chan and Nagatoro, and is often seen flirting with them or being approached by guys with flirting intentions. Due to this, Yoshi often tries to act as the matchmaker for her friends, planning various double dates. However, this flirtatious aspect is downplayed in later chapters and mostly overtaken by Sakura, leading the latter to be depicted as the matchmaker in the anime adaptation while Yoshi, as demonstrated later on in the story, when the girls talk about romance is the only one who is not questioned since - as shown in a bonus strip of Volume 14 - her friends deemed it "too soon" for her.

   Her hidden depths are her love for animals, dogs in particular, and being extremely physically affectionate, tending to externalize her affections to others with frequent hugs and caresses which, combined with a very low sense of personal space, prompt her to have an obsession to touch Senpai's hair due to how fluffy it is. She is also implied to be a closet geek, being a fan of "One Piece" and "YuYu Hakusho", enjoying Junji Ito's work, managing to identify the Fusion Dance from "Dragon Ball Z", knowing specific shōgi moves like "murisuji", and often mentioning genre movie actors such as Ichikawa Ebizō XI, besides actually really appreciating Senpai's manga. Furthermore, she's an amazingly skilled mascot designer and is regarded as a "cuteness aficionado" by her friends. Yoshi also enjoys singing very much, though she is extremely tone-deaf.

   She is also extremely athletic, loves the beach, is capable of effortlessly skiing down a pro course with the snowboard and is likely the most physically performing out of all her friends, has proven to be capable of almost inhuman feats such as possessing enough strength to constrict someone with one hand, or running at such an amazing speed to act as a windbreak.
