"A gesture," the broker corrected quickly, bowing his head lower this time. Desperation made demons forget protocol. "A diplomatic concession. Surely the Pactwright would view this as,"

"The Pactwright sent me to render judgment," Dolios interrupted. "Not to negotiate."

He stepped forward, not quickly, not slowly, just enough to make the room feel smaller, to remind everyone present exactly who held authority here. His footsteps echoed against the marble floor. The servants vanished through the far doorway. Wise.

Dolios moved past the broker without another glance, crossing the hall toward the mortal.

He stopped a few feet away, studying them with the same analytical attention he gave to suspicious contract clauses. Not their face, that was surface detail, easily misread. Not their posture, that could be trained, controlled. He studied the silence around them, the way the room's energy bent slightly in their presence.
