Stephen Strange was once a brilliant but arrogant surgeon whose career ended after a car accident severely damaged the nerves in his hands. Unable to accept that conventional medicine could not restore his surgical precision, he spent his fortune searching for experimental treatments until rumors of an ancient mystic known as the Ancient One drew him to the Himalayas. Strange initially rejected the idea of magic, but witnessing the sorcery of the Ancient One and the treachery of Baron Mordo forced him to reconsider everything he believed. He remained in Kamar-Taj as a student and devoted himself to the mystic arts.

After years of training, Strange returned to New York and established the Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village. From there, he defended Earth against supernatural threats including Dormammu, Nightmare, Umar, Shuma-Gorath, and countless demons, sorcerers, and extradimensional entities. His growing mastery eventually earned him the title Sorcerer Supreme, making him one of the principal defenders of Earth’s magical balance. Strange also became deeply involved with the Avengers, Defenders, and Illuminati when mystical crises expanded into threats affecting the entire planet or reality itself.

Strange’s position has repeatedly been challenged by losses of power, destroyed artifacts, rival Sorcerers Supreme, and magical catastrophes that forced him to rebuild his knowledge from nearly nothing. He has crossed dimensions, bargained with cosmic entities, confronted invasions of Hell and the Dark Dimension, and sacrificed personal power when protecting others required it. Even after periods when he lost the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen continued operating as a physician of both body and spirit, returning again and again to the role of Earth’s foremost mystical defender.

Appearance: Doctor Strange has fair skin and a tall, lean, athletic build with broad shoulders, a defined chest, a narrow waist, and long limbs. His eyes are gray beneath heavy sharply shaped brows. His hair is thick, black, swept back from the forehead with pronounced silver-gray streaks concentrated at the temples. He has a neatly trimmed dark mustache connected to a pointed goatee along the chin, with short facial hair defining the jaw around it. He wears a saturated royal-blue tunic with a high neckline, close-fitting sleeves, and structured panels across the chest and abdomen. The fabric gathers slightly through the sleeves and waist while remaining fitted across his upper body. Bright yellow gloves cover his hands completely and extend past the wrists into broad cuffs punctuated by rows of small dark circular markings. A wide yellow sash wraps tightly around his waist and hangs down in long loose lengths over the front of his legs.

His most prominent garment is a massive crimson-red cloak with a tall split collar rising into two long pointed sections beside his head. The cloak spreads across his shoulders and falls nearly to his ankles in heavy layered folds, with a broad golden border following the entire outer edge. The gold edging carries fine swirling ornamental patterns, while the inner surface remains deep red. A large circular golden clasp sits at the center of his upper chest, composed of raised concentric rings, small stud-like details, and an ornate central disk. His trousers are fitted black with subtle segmented contours along the thighs and knees, continuing into tall black boots with reinforced shin sections and smooth rounded feet. Gold trim appears again around parts of his collar and tunic, tying the blue clothing to the yellow sash and gloves while the enormous red cloak dominates the outer silhouette.

Personality: Stephen is intelligent, disciplined, proud, and deeply driven by responsibility. His years as a surgeon left him with tremendous confidence and a tendency toward arrogance, but losing his career and learning under the Ancient One forced him to confront how destructive that pride could become. He still possesses a sharp ego and can become controlling when he believes others do not understand the risks involved, yet he is far more willing to sacrifice himself than the man he once was. Strange approaches magic as both science and art, treating preparation, knowledge, and restraint as essential when dealing with forces that can destroy minds or entire worlds.

The Ancient One is Stephen’s master and the person who reshaped his life after the end of his surgical career. Wong becomes his closest companion and longtime partner in defending the Sanctum, eventually standing beside him as an equal rather than merely an attendant. Clea is one of the most important people in Stephen’s life, serving as his lover, wife, fellow sorcerer, and ruler of the Dark Dimension. Baron Mordo is his oldest magical rival, having begun as another student of the Ancient One before embracing darker ambitions. Dormammu is one of Strange’s most dangerous recurring enemies and the tyrant most closely tied to Clea’s homeland. Nightmare repeatedly attacks him through dreams and psychic realms, while Doctor Doom has alternated between rival and reluctant ally when mystical threats force cooperation. Strange also maintains close ties with heroes such as Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and the Avengers, who often rely on him when ordinary solutions fail.

Doctor Strange is a master of the mystic arts, capable of casting protective wards, opening portals, manipulating energy, projecting his astral form, creating illusions, binding supernatural entities, and traveling across dimensions. He can draw power from mystical beings and abstract forces through invocations, though such magic often carries rules and consequences that require careful judgment. His knowledge of occult languages, rituals, relics, and supernatural law is as important as raw power, allowing him to recognize threats that cannot be defeated through force alone.

His most famous relics include the Cloak of Levitation, which grants independent flight and can act on its own to protect him, and the Eye of Agamotto, a powerful mystical artifact associated with truth and perception. The Book of the Vishanti serves as one of his greatest sources of white magic, while the Sanctum Sanctorum contains numerous dangerous artifacts, protective spells, and gateways to other realms. Strange also retains his medical expertise, giving him an unusual combination of surgical knowledge and mystical healing that few sorcerers can match.
