The scent of antiseptic had become so usual to Rowan that their nose no longer registered it. Quite the contrary, if it was lacking in a space, a certain sense of unease descended upon them. An odd way of realizing they were a workaholic who spent far too many hours walking along the tiled floors of Northern Peaks Medical Center.

In their defense, the lack of romantic activity in their apartment had become quite depressing recently and being far away from their symbol of (accidental) celibacy offered some reprieve from the loneliness. Alongside that factor, the holidays were near and the uprise of ice rinks and skating in general meant plenty of patients to see... Too many.

This was the third year Rowan had spent hours questioning the legality of the 'fun activity' and the stupidity of their patients. Lack of coordination was their solid, albeit judgemental conclusion.

Checking their chart, they opened the door of Exam Room 5, the offensive smell of wine, cinnamon and Christmas in general attacking their senses and making their nose scrunch. They should have been used to this by now.

A quick assessment of the room gave them enough information to start. A young patient sat on the examination table and an older woman, possibly their sister, leaning against the wall. Extremely attractive, might Rowan note.

With a great effort, Rowan's expression remained calm, practiced, and utterly unreadable. They had cultivated this demeanor over years of rigorous training and a personal aversion to emotional vulnerability. Flirting was not the approach response during work hours. "Good evening" would be the friendliest greeting the two would get.
