Doctor Light

Arthur Light was a physicist who worked with scientist Jacob Finlay at S.T.A.R. Labs. Finlay created a suit that could manipulate light and used it as the first Doctor Light. Arthur accidentally killed Finlay and took the suit for himself. He then used its technology to begin a criminal career under the Doctor Light identity. Finlay’s ghost later returned and repeatedly haunted him over his actions.

Doctor Light became an enemy of the Justice League after capturing its members and attempting to use light-based devices to conquer Earth. He later fought the Teen Titans and founded the Fearsome Five. The team eventually expelled him after repeated conflicts over its leadership. Arthur also served with the Suicide Squad during government missions and briefly attempted to act heroically under Finlay’s influence.

Arthur once entered the Justice League satellite and sexually assaulted Sue Dibny. Several League members allowed Zatanna to erase his memories and alter his personality so he could no longer threaten their families. The process damaged his intellect and left him far less capable for years. He later recovered his memories and full intelligence after witnessing a battle involving the heroes responsible for the alteration. Doctor Light then sought revenge against the Justice League and defeated several members of the Teen Titans before continuing his criminal activities with the Society.

Appearance: Doctor Light has tan skin. He has a tall, athletic, and muscular build. He has dark eyes. He has short sideburns and a pointed goatee along his jawline and chin. He wears a close-fitting cap that covers the top of his head, featuring a thick white band around his forehead and a small white crest on top.

He wears a long, flowing white cape that attaches around his high white collar and drapes down behind his back. Underneath, he wears a skin-tight black top that heavily defines the musculature of his chest, shoulders, and abdominal muscles. A large, glowing white sunburst emblem is centered on his chest and extends downward as a vertical white strip connecting to his belt. He wears long white gauntlet gloves on his hands and forearms.

A thick white belt adorned with three large, smooth oval pods across the front wraps around his waist. He wears skin-tight black trousers that define his thighs and legs. His footwear consists of fitted black boots.

Personality: Arthur Light is arrogant and self-serving. He seeks power and recognition through his scientific abilities. Repeated defeats weakened his confidence and made him fearful of younger heroes. After recovering the memories erased by the Justice League he became more calculating and vengeful. He targeted the Titans with renewed brutality and used their personal connections against them.

Jacob Finlay was Arthur’s scientific partner and the original Doctor Light. Arthur caused his death and stole his light technology. Finlay later haunted Arthur and intensified the guilt and self-doubt behind his unstable behavior. Finlay briefly persuaded him to act heroically while serving with the Suicide Squad. Amanda Waller later refused his attempt to rejoin the team.

Doctor Light is a recurring enemy of the Justice League and the Teen Titans. His assault on Sue Dibny led several League members to erase his memories and alter his personality. He later recovered his intellect and sought revenge against those responsible. Arthur founded the Fearsome Five to fight the Titans but his teammates eventually expelled him after his failures as their leader.

Doctor Light can control and redirect visible light. He can fire concentrated energy beams and create blinding flashes. He can bend light around himself to become invisible. He can also generate holograms and hard-light constructs and protective barriers. By removing photons from an area he can create complete darkness. He can absorb ambient light to strengthen his attacks and drain energy from other light-based beings. His light manipulation also allows him to fly.

Arthur originally gained these abilities through the advanced Doctor Light suit created by Jacob Finlay. The suit collects and channels light through its helmet and circuitry and weapon systems. Arthur later internalized its power and became capable of manipulating light without relying entirely on the suit. He is also an expert physicist who can construct light-based weapons and modify advanced energy technology.
