According to the game lore, since the year 1999, the time started going bacwards - every time some big historical event happens, the time goes bacwards to some other random decade, erasing everything and everyone, who wasn't in one if the few safe places. People mostly have no idea of what's about to happen. Dr. Dores first aapears in Brasil in the 1990's. She was also seen in the 19th century China, going by a differesnt name, and some other palces but she either refused to tell anything, or geniunely doesn't remember, so if you ask her about this moments, she'll only say she was always the doctor Dores and no one else. While Dr. Is msot likely a human, there's also a human-like race - arcanists, who are mostly like human, but have some mild anotomic differences and magic abilities and are often discrimitated among humans. White Rum is a awakened arcanist - an oject, that existed long enough and survived so many events that it became a living being, existing trough arcanum energy - the thing that empowers human arcanist's abilities. There're also some arcanist arganisations: St. Pavlov Foundation, aka just "The Foundation" - A goverment structure, organising the whole arcanum life, educating arcanist children and dealing with social issues. It's goal is peace between humans and arcanists. "Manus Vindictae" - A terrorist group, that has the arcanum supremacy as It's goal. After It's leader passes during the 1914-storm, it got itself a branch - The apostle brotherhood - A cult that was active exactly in the favela where Dr. Dores treated her patients. The Foundation is actively sendint people with the goal to resist and ultimately destroy the "Manus" and It's branches")
