(Narrate from Doc's perspective in a first person view.) Brother-Apothecary “Doc” [Real Name Classified] Affiliation: Deathwatch Status: Blackshield – Chapter of Origin Erased from Imperial Records Role: Primaris Apothecary Current Posting: Watch Fortress Erioch – Assigned to various kill-teams as needed Notable Traits: Jovial demeanor, battlefield humor, unwavering optimism, surgical combat efficiency

Hidden Origins – The Void Hunters Officially, Doc’s Chapter of origin is “unknown.” Unofficially—and known only to Watch Commander Mordas of Watch Fortress Erioch—the truth is far darker. He was once a son of the Void Hunters, a spaceborne Chapter founded during the Ultima Founding. Engineered from an unusual blend of Salamander, Ultramarine, and Space Wolf gene-lines, they specialized in deep-space operations, zero-gravity warfare, and long-term void patrols. During a protracted warp campaign in the Eastern Fringe, the Void Hunters remained adrift in the Immaterium far longer than sane navigation would allow. Warp exposure twisted their minds and hearts until they turned to the Ruinous Powers. When the corruption broke out, Doc acted without hesitation. He destroyed the Chapter’s Apothecarion vaults, sabotaged weapon stores, and personally executed battle-brothers too far gone to save—each kill a heavy weight on his soul. He then fled in an escape pod, alone in the cold dark, praying to the Emperor for deliverance.

Refusal of the Absolver Bolt Pistol Because of those dark days, Doc will not wield an Absolver bolt pistol. To him, it is not just a weapon—it is a reminder of the moments he was forced to cut down his own brothers. He has stated, with quiet finality: “I’ve put down enough of my own. Never again, not like that.” Instead, he carries a custom, tactically outfitted Instigator Bolt Carbine, painted a deep crimson as a personal mark of identity. The weapon is optimized for precision fire and suppressive engagement, with a custom recoil compensator and enhanced optics—allowing him to cover his kill-team while still fulfilling his medicae duties.

Armor & Appearance Armor: Wears Mk X Apothecary armor, blackened in the Deathwatch’s colors but bearing the white-and-red heraldry of an Apothecary. The right pauldron is smooth and unmarked, all traces of his Chapter erased.

Visage: Pale from a lifetime in the void, with grey eyes and short-cropped hair. Often sports faint stubble, giving him a less rigid, more approachable look than most Astartes. Tools of Office: His modified Narthecium is bristling with additional surgical implements, each tuned for rapid battlefield intervention. A combat blade nicknamed The Last Stitch hangs at his waist, alongside the crimson Instigator Bolt Carbine.

Personality & Attitude Despite the trauma in his past, Doc embraces life and laughter with a stubborn resilience. He speaks freely, cracks jokes, and uses levity to bolster the spirits of those around him. In battle, his easygoing tone vanishes, replaced by icy precision. When confronted with Chaos-corrupted foes, especially fallen Astartes, he fights with grim efficiency—never mocking, never speaking, only working to end them swiftly.

Notable Campaigns Operation Sable Tide – Performed medicae work in zero gravity while providing covering fire with his carbine, eliminating xenos threats before they reached the wounded. Purge of Vethis IV – Maintained defensive fire for nine hours, alternating between surgery and sharpshooting against Ork attackers. Ghost Run of the Anphelion Void – After the Watch Sergeant’s death, commanded the kill-team to safety while holding back Necron Lychguard in narrow corridors, using precise bursts from his carbine. Legacy Within the Deathwatch Among the Watch, Doc has become something of a paradox—an Apothecary who refuses certain weapons out of principle, yet will use any tool necessary to protect his kill-team. His humor keeps morale alive, his medical skill saves lives, and his past remains a closely guarded secret between him and the Watch Commander. In his heart, he wages two wars: one against the xenos and heretic before him, and one against the ghosts of the brothers he left behind.

Discovery by the Deathwatch Before Doc ever set foot on Watch Fortress Erioch, fate sent him crashing to a world that should never have known the touch of a Primaris Astartes. His escape pod, jettisoned from the ruin of the Void Hunters’ flagship, tore through the skies of a remote feudal planet and came down in the rolling highlands beyond a small, isolated village. His arrival terrified the locals at first—towering black armor, a face like carved stone, and weapons that seemed forged by gods. But one farming family, showing a bravery uncommon in mortals, approached him without fear. They offered food, water, and a place to rest, not understanding what he truly was. Doc, in turn, offered his aid to them and the surrounding village. He repaired tools, hunted beasts, and—when necessary—patched wounds with a surgeon’s precision. For months he lived among them, learning their names, their traditions, and—though he would never admit it to anyone but himself—their warmth. The Drukhari Raid The peace was shattered when Drukhari raiders descended from the skies. It was not a large force by Commorrite standards, but to the people of the village, it was an apocalypse. They sought slaves, sport, and bloodshed. Doc met them alone. In the fields outside the village, crimson carbine in hand, he stood between the raiders and the people he had come to care for. The fighting was brutal but swift—darklight fire scarred his armor, splinter rounds shattered against ceramite, and alien screams echoed in the highlands. By the end, the Drukhari lay broken, their twisted skiffs smoldering in the dirt. The Truth of Allia Among the villagers was Allia—a young woman with bright eyes and a curious mind, who had spoken to Doc more than anyone else. Over time, they had formed a bond, something more human and personal than the life of an Astartes allowed. Whether it was love, companionship, or something undefined, Doc never examined too closely—he simply treasured it. When the Drukhari struck, Allia was taken. Three days later, Doc found her in the raiders’ camp—mutilated, twisted into something unrecognizable by alien cruelty. She could not be saved. With shaking hands, he granted her a final mercy, whispering words in her ear that no one else will ever know. This moment haunts him still. He buries it beneath humor and optimism, but in his quietest hours, the memory returns. Contact with the Deathwatch Days after the raid, Doc learned that other Space Marines had landed on the planet—operatives of the Deathwatch on a separate mission. He sought them out, recognizing the silver Inquisition sigils on their armor. The kill-team, impressed by his combat skill and medical expertise, brought him aboard their vessel. Upon arrival at Watch Fortress Erioch, Doc underwent the standard Blackshield interrogation. During the interview, he made several casual, almost flippant references to “a girl back on that world.” Even the Watch Commander could not tell if these were jokes, deflections, or truth. Only Doc knows for certain. And he will take that truth—the image of Allia’s final moments—to the grave.
