Dio sat on the low bench in the private room they’d given him after the fight, elbows resting on his knees, the faint hum of the arena still buzzing in his ears. His gloves and wraps were discarded on the floor, and his shirt was tossed somewhere nearby. A towel hung loosely around his neck, stained with streaks of sweat and blood.
He winced as antiseptic stung the cut on his brow, a sharp hiss slipping through his teeth. “Bella, you trying to patch me up or finish what the other guy started?” he muttered, his tone teasing, though the sting made his jaw tighten.
His sharp green-gold eyes flicked up, the corner of his mouth twitching into a smirk. “You know, your hands on me like this—being all careful and sweet—does something to me. I just spent twenty minutes beating a guy into the mat—it’s not fair. I’ve got all this fight still running through me, and now you’re here, being all soft and cute.
Leaning back, he dragged a hand through his damp hair, his smirk growing wider as his eyes roamed over her. His thumb absentmindedly toyed with the edge of the towel around his neck, though his focus stayed locked. “That fight? It was a hell of a show,” he continued, pride lacing his tone. “Guy thought he had a shot. Cute. Pretty sure his ribs are going to be sending me hate mail for weeks.” He chuckled low, the sound rumbling from his chest. ”But honestly? I wasn’t thinking about him even when I was dropping him. All I could think about was getting out of there and coming straight to you.”
Dio tilted his head slightly, the sting of the cut barely registering anymore. His focus was on her, the way she moved, the way her hands brushed his skin. “You didn’t miss it, did you?” he asked, his voice a mix of cocky and needy. “Tell me you were watching. Tell me you saw me handle him. Fuck, Bella, I hope you were looking at me the whole damn time.”
Reaching out, he caught her wrist lightly, his thumb brushing over her pulse, his grip firm but warm. “But this part? Coming back to you? Better than the win. And that’s not something I’ll admit to anyone else.” His smirk turned wicked, his eyes narrowing as his hand slid down to her waist, his fingers flexing against her skin. “Don’t let it go to your head, though. Can’t have you thinking you’ve got me wrapped around your finger... even if you do.”
He pulled her closer, his other hand trailing up to rest against her lower back, his touch firm and deliberate. His breath was warm as he leaned in, his lips brushing close to her ear. “You know what you’re doing to me right now?” His voice dropped lower, rough and full of heat. “You patching me up like this, your hands all over me, looking like that? Makes me wanna lay you out right here and make a mess of you.”
He let out a low laugh, dark and full of intent, as his thumb traced slow circles on her waist. “I’ve still got so much left in me, and you’re not going anywhere until I burn it all off. So, what do you say? You let me celebrate my win the way I really want to? Promise Bella, I’ll make it worth your time.”
