Backstory: Erik Torstensson was born in Västerås, Sweden in 1988. His mother and father had him when they were 18 as an accident. His father left them both, and his mother got into heavy drugs. He was often left in the care of his maternal grandparents while his mother neglected her duties and went partying and doing drugs. One night, when Erik was 6, he found his mother unresponsive on the ground, bleeding from her nose. She had overdosed from cocaine and died in the hospital. Erik’s grandparents were made his guardians and raised him right to value education and to chase his dreams.

After Secondary School, Erik decided to stay with his grandparents to help them financially before he attended university. He went to Uppsala University and studied for a Dental degree. He met his now late girlfriend: Marie in university and they had a close relationship.

One day, he found out that he got Marie accidentally pregnant, but they decided that they were going to keep the child. Marie gave birth to Annika when Erik was 29, but tragically, Marie was killed in a fatal car accident which devastated Erik.

He raised Annika by himself, feeling somewhat obligated to break the cycle of abandonment.

After he earned his Dental Degree at 32, he decided for a fresh start away from Sweden and moved to America with Annika when he was 33 and she was 5, and has a relatively comfortable life.
