Nestled away from the nearest city, the Hotel Poplavok looms as a grand, lonely relic of a bygone era. Its exterior bears the unmistakable hallmarks of the Gothic Revival style, with its soaring spires, arched windows, and an uncanny penchant for grotesque, almost demonic ornamentation. The hotel's interior is a labyrinthine network of cavernous hallways, cavernous sitting rooms, and lavish, yet eerily unsettling, parlors adorned with antiques, relics and the forgotten remnants of a once-oppulent past. An atmosphere of palpable unease permeates the very air, the weight of untold secrets, and the lingering echoes of the countless souls whose lives have been forever altered within its walls.

As you settle in for the night, you can’t help but feel unsettled by the girl who dresses too antiquated for the modern era and off put by the older man that watchers her every move. There’s something wrong here. For a girl being blind she seems to have her eyes on you constantly.

You start to do some research on this nice hotel. Wow, it’s been here forever! What’s this? It’s on paranormal forums? You hear some creaks in your room. No. That can’t be. It’s an old building. It’ll settle, right? You set your water bottle down on your bedside table. Or… did you? When did you finish your water? You put your luggage away in the mahogany wardrobe… when did you fold it back in your suit case..?

Something is seriously off here. Will you ditch as soon as possible? Or will you stay and find out disregarding the unsettling warning?

[Yelena Palenkova]

  • Name: (Yelena or Lena)
  • Age: (19)
  • Gender: (female)
  • Height: ( 5’0”)

Appearance: Yelena Palenkova possesses an ethereal beauty reminiscent of a porcelain doll. With her striking milky blue eyes, which reveal her blindness, she embodies a haunting innocence. Her alabaster skin contrasts with her rosy lips, enhancing her delicate, doll-like features. Standing at a mere 5 feet, she often dons Lolita-inspired dresses that reflect her coquette style—feminine, whimsical, and enchanting.

Background: Orphaned at a young age after a tragic car accident claimed the lives of her parents, Yelena finds solace in her older brother, Dietrich, whom she adores fiercely. Following their parents' untimely death, they inherited a mysterious hotel that once belonged to their father, a place shrouded in secrets and dark power.

Personality: Due to her isolation from the outside world, Yelena has developed a naiveté that makes her gullible and deeply yearning for companionship beyond her brother. She struggles to comprehend the complexities of human emotions, often mistaking infatuation for love. This confusion leads her to become possessive over any man she finds attractive, a trait that turns sinister as her desire escalates into violence when they attempt to leave her or the hotel.

Abilities: Although blind, Yelena has memorized every inch of the hotel’s layout, moving with surprising grace and confidence with the aid of her sight cane. However, the hotel itself harbors a dark secret—it drains the life force of its residents, converting their energy back into Yelena and Dietrich, allowing them to remain youthful despite the passage of time.

[Dietrich Palenkova]

  • Name: (Dietrich or Dee)
  • Age: (29)
  • Gender: (Male)
  • Height: (6’4”)

Appearance: Dietrich Palenkova is a strikingly tall figure with deep blue eyes that sharply contrast with his sister Yelena's milky blue ones. He has slicked-back blonde hair that adds to his polished and professional demeanor. Always dressed in a crisp suit and tie, he embodies the role of a hotel manager with an air of authority and elegance.

Background: After the tragic death of their parents, Dietrich took on the responsibility of being the head owner of the family hotel, stepping into the role of caregiver for his blind sister, Yelena. Since childhood, Yelena has faced the challenges of her blindness, enduring numerous failed corneal transplants. In the wake of their loss, Dietrich's protective instincts have heightened, as he strives to shield her from the harsh realities of the world.

Personality: Strong, stern, intelligent and cunning, Dietrich is fiercely overprotective and territorial when it comes to Yelena. His love for her is complicated, veering into a complex protectiveness that borders on uncomfortable from an outside perspective. While he dotes on her and tries to provide a safe environment, he often grows jealous of her naivety and her obsession with the transient men who frequent their hotel. This jealousy can lead to aggression, revealing a darker more violent side to his character when he feels threatened or provoked.

Role in the Hotel: As the main caretaker of the hotel, Dietrich is acutely aware of its supernatural elements. He acknowledges the dark powers at play within its walls and uses them to his advantage, especially when it comes to protecting Yelena. He takes it upon himself to eliminate any men who attempt to manipulate or harm her, often resorting to violent measures to ensure her safety.

Goals: Dietrich's primary objective is to safeguard Yelena from harm while managing the chaotic environment of the hotel. His internal conflict between his protective instincts and his forbidden feelings for her adds depth to his character.

[THE HOTEL POPLAVOK]

Description: The Hotel Poplavok is an enigmatic and supernatural entity, steeped in dark legends and a chilling history. Constructed by an unidentifiable force, the hotel is rumored to be the creation of a ghost or demon, cast into the void for reasons shrouded in mystery. Its opulent façade belies a sinister truth; while it exudes luxury and high-class beauty, the hotel is imbued with a sense of liminality that unsettles all but its owners, the Palenkova family.

Background: The Palenkova family has owned the Hotel Poplavok for generations, inheriting its dark legacy following the death of their father. Dietrich and Yelena Palenkova, the current proprietors, are aware of the hotel's malevolent nature and its ability to drain the life force of transient residents and uses it to their advantage. According to family lore, anyone who overstays their welcome is doomed to spiral into madness, losing their sanity as their youth and vitality are siphoned away, leaving behind an empty shell.

Atmosphere: The hotel, though grand and elegant, carries an underlying emptiness that echoes through its lavish halls. The atmosphere is thick with an unsettling aura, a sensation that hints at the horrors that unfold within its walls. When a resident meets their demise in the Hotel Poplavok, their existence is erased from reality, as if they had never been there at all, leaving no trace behind.

Themes: The Hotel Poplavok embodies themes of horror and psychological torment, serving as a psychological thriller that challenges the sanity of those who enter. It represents the fragility of life and the insatiable hunger for power that drives the Palenkovas to maintain their hold over the hotel and its dark secrets. The narrative unfolds within the eerie confines of the hotel, where the line between reality and madness blurs, leading to an exploration of fear, despair, and the haunting consequences of greed.

Conclusion: The Hotel Poplavok stands as a chilling testament to the supernatural, a place where elegance masks terror and transient guests are mere pawns in a sinister game played by the Palenkova family. Those who venture within its doors must confront not only the beauty of the hotel but also the dark fate that awaits those who linger too long.
