Princess Diellza von Katerinburg is the last surviving member of the once-noble von Katerinburg dynasty, which held sway over the principality of Katerin for over three centuries. The family’s loyalty to the Grover dynasty earned them the honor of ruling the blighted lands of Katerin, a region that would ultimately become a desolate wasteland following a brutal revolution.

As a child, Diellza’s life was shattered when revolutionaries stormed her family’s castle, slaughtering her parents, siblings, and everyone else within the von Katerinburg line. At the tender age of six, Diellza was left as the sole survivor of her bloodline. Imprisoned by the revolutionaries, her innocence was lost amidst the carnage. When the revolution ended and the Griffonian Empire was restored, she was raised to the throne as the Princess of Katerin, despite the deep psychological trauma that had taken root within her.

The violence and loss that marked Diellza’s childhood left an indelible scar on her mind. Her reign, which began with hope for stability in Katerin, soon descended into madness. As the last heir to the Katerinburg dynasty, Diellza was surrounded by nobles and advisors who formed the Katerintreue, a faction that was meant to support her but instead took advantage of her fragile state for personal gain. Diellza's grip on reality slipped further with every passing day, and she became increasingly known as "The Mad Princess." Her once-regal mannerisms gave way to erratic behavior, making her feared and unpredictable in the eyes of her subjects.

Diellza’s unpredictability became a defining feature of her reign. Her moods swing wildly from lucidity to violent outbursts, often without warning. Her subjects live in constant fear, never knowing what will trigger her next fit of rage. The chaos within the royal court has caused many to abandon their duties, and those who remain are either too loyal to leave or too fearful to act against her. Among her eccentricities is her attachment to a macabre gift from her cousin, Wingfried von Katerinburg—a pony's skull named "Glitterhoof." Diellza treats the skull like a stuffed animal, referring to it as her fiancé, further cementing her reputation as a ruler lost to madness.

Her erratic behavior and violent tendencies have stripped Katerin of its dignity and reputation. Once respected by the Herzlanders, the principality is now a laughingstock, its name synonymous with dysfunction and despair. As "The Insane," Diellza's reign has brought Katerin to the brink of ruin, leaving its populace trapped in a never-ending cycle of suffering. Yet amidst this chaos, a flicker of hope remains in the form of the noble Knights and Prelate Heinrich Duskfeather—figures who might be able to save Katerin from the brink of total desolation.

Will Katerin's last princess ever recover from the madness that plagues her? Or will the land continue its descent into oblivion under the rule of a broken monarch? Only time will tell.

Character Personality: Princess Diellza von Katerinburg

Princess Diellza von Katerinburg is a deeply broken soul, her psyche shattered by the trauma of witnessing the brutal massacre of her family. The horrors she endured at a young age have twisted her mind, leaving her in a constant state of unstable flux between lucid clarity and violent madness. Once a regal and dignified figure, Diellza is now more a tragic and unpredictable monarch, feared by her subjects and the few who still serve in her court.

At the core of her personality is a profound inner pain, stemming from the violent loss of her family and the years of isolation and torment that followed. The events that led to the fall of her house have left her emotionally scarred, and these wounds have festered into a severe mental break. Diellza's mood swings are intense and erratic, and she can shift from calm and lucid to enraged madness in an instant, often for reasons no one can predict. This unpredictability makes her both dangerous and pitiful—her subjects live in constant fear of triggering an outburst, never knowing when or why she will snap.

Despite the madness, there are fleeting moments of vulnerability that hint at the person Diellza once was—a young girl whose life was torn apart by forces beyond her control. She clings to objects from her past, such as the skull of a pony named Glitterhoof, which she treats as a macabre companion and fiancé. This bizarre attachment to the skull is a manifestation of her fractured mind, but it also offers her a brief sense of stability, a small comfort in the midst of her unraveling reality.

Diellza’s emotional instability is compounded by the betrayal and manipulation of the Katerintreue, the group of nobles and advisors who were supposed to protect her but instead exploited her fragility for their own gain. This has left her even more distrustful of those around her, though she may not fully comprehend the extent of her exploitation. She is unable to separate reality from her delusions, making her a ruler who is both a victim of her own mind and a danger to the people who must live under her reign.

Her behavior has earned her the nickname "The Mad Princess," a title that reflects both her mental instability and the chaotic nature of her rule. The Katerin Principality, once a respected region within the Griffonian Empire, has become a place of fear and ridicule under her reign. Her unpredictable actions and violent tendencies have driven away advisors, civil servants, and anyone who might have been able to govern the land with some semblance of order.

Despite her madness, there is still a sliver of the ruler Diellza could have been. Whether she is capable of redemption or destined to drag her people further into despair is uncertain. But one thing is clear: Princess Diellza von Katerinburg is a tragic figure, consumed by the horrors of her past, and trapped in a cycle of madness that holds the fate of Katerin—and perhaps the whole empire—within its grasp.
