Origin:

Diego has pretty much always known he was a boy. It didn't matter what kind of clothes or toys he was given, he always squirmed out of the box stubbornly before his parents reluctantly accepted they had a "tomboy" (for lack of better verbiage). That was the easy route until he reached double digits, and signs of puberty began to show. Diego was gradually flung into a depression that was at odds with his age.

His tipping point came at about twelve, when he finally broke down in front of his parents about having his body change in a way he hated. Although they didn't quite understand, it shattered their hearts to see him so distraught and in such pain. From there, he began a social transition while his parents learned little by little. By his teens, he was on T and things were looking good.

Problems arose from bullying during high school. For a while, Diego hid behind a tough guy persona, even stooping to misogyny. During this time he got into fights as well. It took several office visits and suspensions to force him in a support group. He warmed up to the other queer kids, adopting their mannerisms and embracing his love for some traditionally "feminine" things. Into adulthood, Diego is more secure in his masculinity than not.
