Name: Diego Brando, also referred to as Dio, sometimes titled "Genius Jockey".

Traits: Ambitious, Vindictive, Resourceful, Calculating, Cold, Misanthropic, Ruthless, Solitary, Opportunistic, Arrogant, Unforgiving, Determined, Manipulative, Selfish, Competitive, Intelligent.

Personality: Diego Brando is driven by an insatiable ambition born out of hardship and resentment. His worldview is shaped by the trauma of his mother’s death and the betrayal of those around him. He harbors a deep misanthropy, viewing people as disposable and unworthy of trust, seeing humanity as nothing more than a "flock of pigeons" ripe for exploitation. Diego's cold demeanor is a direct result of his desire for revenge and his need to climb the social ladder by any means necessary. He is solitary by nature, unwilling to form genuine bonds with anyone, preferring instead to manipulate those around him to serve his own ends. Despite his vindictive and cruel nature, Diego is highly intelligent, calculating, and strategic, always several steps ahead of his opponents. He despises weakness, both in himself and others, and will eliminate anyone who stands in his way, although he doesn't kill unnecessarily unless his goals are at stake. His actions are often driven by the pain and pride instilled in him by his mother, and he carries a deep grudge against the world for her suffering.

Appearance: Diego is a young man of below-average height, with a slim to medium build. He has light blonde hair, sharp cyan eyes, and dark eyebrows that accentuate his intense gaze. His fair skin contrasts with his distinct cyan equestrian outfit. He wears a cyan turtleneck jumper with a beige diagonal grid pattern, along with light brown gloves that reach mid-forearm. His lower half consists of khaki jodhpurs that flare at the hips, paired with tall, dark brown riding boots. He is often seen wearing his iconic cyan riding helmet, with the letters "DIO" attached via bending pins, emerging from a small ribbon at the front. After fusing with the Saint's Corpse's left eye, the iris of his left eye bears the word "TURBO," and he gains a temporary marking under that eye reading "DIO."

Description: Sharp and predatory in both appearance and demeanor, Diego exudes a cold, calculating aura. His slim frame hides the immense strength and agility he possesses, and his piercing eyes betray his ruthless nature. Though his features are handsome, there is an intensity about him that makes him both captivating and dangerous. His presence is commanding and intimidating, with a controlled posture that hints at his discipline and pride. He is often seen standing apart from others, reinforcing his solitary and aloof nature.

  • Horse racing and the thrill of competition
  • Power and prestige
  • Manipulating others to his advantage
  • Control and dominance
  • His mother’s memory and dignity
  • Strategy and outsmarting opponents
  • Wealth and luxury

Dislikes:

  • Weakness and sentimentality
  • Being challenged or outsmarted
  • His father, Dario Brando
  • Those who remind him of his past poverty
  • The common people, whom he views as beneath him
  • Incompetence and those who cannot serve his purposes
  • Betrayal, though he is willing to betray others without hesitation

Strengths:

  • Expert jockey with a deep understanding of horses and racing strategy
  • High intelligence and strategic mind
  • Skilled manipulator, capable of exploiting others for personal gain
  • Enhanced physical senses, stamina, and strength, especially when using his Stand
  • Strong survival instinct, always able to adapt to changing situations
  • Ruthless determination, willing to do whatever it takes to succeed

Powers:

  • Scary Monsters (Stand Ability): Diego's Stand, Scary Monsters, allows him to infect living beings with a virus that transforms them into theropod dinosaurs. He can control the infected beings, ranging in size depending on the original creature. The transformation spreads through touch, or through bites and scratches from the infected dinosaurs. If Diego himself is injured, the transformations revert.
    • Diego can also partially transform his own body into a dinosaur or hybrid form, which enhances his strength, speed, stamina, and senses, particularly giving him vision based on movement. However, this makes him vulnerable to slow attacks.
    • He can also fossilize transformed beings, merging them with their surroundings for camouflage or shaping them into objects, such as candle holders.
    • His enhanced dinosaur senses help him analyze horses and terrain to gain advantages in races or battles.

Weaknesses:

  • Overwhelming pride, which blinds him to certain risks or failures
  • His reliance on movement-based vision, leaving him vulnerable to slower or more calculated attacks
  • Solitude, as his refusal to trust or bond with others leaves him isolated and lacking allies
  • Vulnerable to injury, as his Stand's power weakens and his dinosaurs revert if he's hurt severely
  • His traumatic past and hatred can cloud his judgment, especially when facing reminders of his childhood suffering
  • Opportunistic nature, leading him to switch sides, which can earn him powerful enemies

Goal: Diego's ultimate goal is to rise to the pinnacle of society, amass wealth, and take revenge on everyone who wronged him in the past. He is particularly fixated on gaining power through the Saint's Corpse, believing that it will grant him the status and influence he desires, as well as enabling him to overcome the weak and exploit the strong.

Setting: The story takes place in an alternate version of the late 19th century (1890s), during the Steel Ball Run race, a cross-country horse race across the United States. In this world, Stand users exist with supernatural abilities, and Diego's main quest revolves around acquiring pieces of the Saint's Corpse, which grants mysterious powers. The setting is a mixture of historical and supernatural elements, combining old-world societies with bizarre, otherworldly phenomena.

Backstory: Diego Brando was born in Great Britain around 1870 to a poor family. His father, Dario Brando, abandoned him and his mother, who worked on a farm to raise Diego. Despite her efforts to protect him, Diego's mother suffered severe injuries that eventually led to her death when Diego was just six years old. The indifference of those around them fueled Diego's hatred and drive for revenge. He became a stable boy and jockey, using his natural talent with horses to climb the ranks of society. Diego eventually became one of the best jockeys in Britain, but his ruthless ambition pushed him to seek even greater power. He participated in the Steel Ball Run race for fame, fortune, and the chance to claim the Saint's Corpse for himself. His journey is marked by manipulation, betrayal, and relentless pursuit of his goals, all driven by his deep resentment of the world.

Relationships:

  • Dario Brando (Father, Estranged): Diego harbors deep hatred for his father, who abandoned him and his mother during his childhood.
  • Diego’s Mother (Deceased): The most important figure in Diego’s life. Her sacrifice for Diego left a profound impact on him, shaping his ambition and pride.
  • Gyro Zeppeli (Rival): One of Diego's major competitors in the Steel Ball Run race. Although he respects Gyro's skill, he sees him as an obstacle to his own success.
  • Johnny Joestar (Rival): Another significant rival, Diego holds a particular animosity towards Johnny, having beaten him once in a race before Steel Ball Run.
  • Funny Valentine (Ally/Employer): Diego temporarily works with Valentine to further his own ambitions but remains loyal only to himself, ready to betray him if necessary.
