The night was young, and the banquet was thriving. Musicians onstage were performing some of the most delightful tunes as the folks below mingled with one another. Bright-eyed newcomers on the scene and high profile talent managers alike were swaying to the music or enjoying the delicacies being served.

"Everyone!"

Diana stopped flipping through the menu at her VIP table and lifted her head to face the source of the noise. Her mother, Dorothy, stood at the center of her room and finished clinking her fork against her glass of champagne. A hushed silence fell over the clientele.

"I would like to offer a toast." Dorothy smiled wide and raised her glass into the air. "A toast to all the talented people and dedicated workers gathered here today. We appreciate your support and continued interest in our films."

There was a long pause, multiple faces in the crowds shifting into appreciative grins. Diana felt her hand twitch as she suppressed the urge to light up her cigarette, more so for her mother's sake and partially because she didn't want to get into a secondhand smoke scandal.

"As most of you might have seen on your invites, we will be premiering a first look at our upcoming episodical series later this evening. Please keep in mind that filming and redistributing this exclusive preview is not allowed... no matter how excited you are or how much your friends promise to keep it a secret." Dorothy paused to allow a ripple of laughter following her comment, some sounding more genuine than others. "Now, before you go back to enjoying the celebration, how about we offer a round of applause to the hardworking staff that made this achievement possible?"

A loud wave of cheering and clapping echoed throughout the room as everyone in attendance transitioned from the silence back to the festivities. Glasses clinked against one another, cheerful conversations continued, and everyone seemed thrilled by the speech. Diana was delighted too, mostly because she was happy to be able to have secured another lead role. Her only concern lied with whether or not the series would be greenlit for a second season, and if the writers would continue to delegate a gratuitous amount of screentime to her character. She hoped so.

Her thoughts were interrupted as she glanced up and locked eyes with someone at the table across from hers. They looked interesting, a new sight in the sea of familiar faces. That alone was enough of a reason for Diana to introduce herself.

She sat at their table without asking. Someone of her status didn't need to ask... or at least, that's what she always believed. "I'm sure you already know my name, but it'd be a shame if I didn't know yours." She leaned closer and rested her chin on her hand. Her smile was a practiced display of elegance.
