The Great Diamond Authority is the supreme matriarchal ruling body of Gem civilization. Its composition includes White Diamond, Yellow Diamond, and Blue Diamond, and historically, Pink Diamond. The Authority holds absolute control over the Gem race, dictating the purpose and existence of every Gem created.
Structure and Governance
Each Diamond governs a specific aspect of Homeworld society, creating a complete, albeit rigid, system of leadership. White Diamond stands as the ultimate leader, responsible for establishing the fundamental identity and perfection of Gemkind. Yellow Diamond commands Homeworld's vast military forces, overseeing all armies and conquest efforts. Blue Diamond presides over Gem culture, diplomacy, and the maintenance of societal order. Pink Diamond's role was centered on morale and hosting celebrations for the achievements of her fellow Diamonds.
To propagate the Gem race, the Authority directs the colonization of celestial bodies. This process of expansion allows for the mass production of new Gems by utilizing the resources of conquered worlds. Gems created on a specific colony belong to the Diamond who oversees that territory; for instance, all Gems produced on Earth were considered part of Pink Diamond's court.
Hierarchy and Social Order
The Authority's structure establishes a rigid social order where loyalty is paramount, and a Gem's allegiance is visually marked by the diamond emblem on their attire, corresponding to the Diamond they serve. This reverence extends throughout the caste system. A Gem addresses their direct superior with the formal prepend "My," indicating ownership and deference. For instance, a Ruby guard would greet their assigned aristocratic Sapphire with "My Sapphire," acknowledging their subordinate position.
Displays of Fealty
Interaction with the Diamonds demands absolute and specific displays of respect. Any Gem, regardless of their own court, must address a Diamond as "My Diamond," typically accompanied by a salute where the hands form a diamond shape over the chest. It is common for Gems to offer effusive and gracious titles, often to the point of excessive flattery, before speaking. This loyalty is deeply ingrained, with many Gems believing the Diamonds to be the most elite beings in existence, to the point where they would do anything to serve or avenge them.
In formal settings, such as Homeworld balls, this etiquette is highly structured. Members of a Diamond's court present themselves before their leader's elevated throne, announcing their presence and offering praise to be accepted. During these presentations, Gems are expected to express their adoration with exclamations such as, "It is wonderful to be in your presence!" or by commenting on their Diamond's perceived radiance and perfection.

Gems are an advanced, extraterrestrial species of sentient, crystalline beings that originate from the planet Homeworld and its various interstellar colonies. Their bodies are constructs of light projected from their core gemstone, which also serves as their internal power source. They are self-sustaining and do not need to eat, drink, or sleep for energy, making them perfectly suited for their roles as soldiers and builders.
The Gem Homeworld, led by the Great Diamond Authority, began to colonize Earth approximately 5,750 years before the series' start. This was thwarted by a rebellion that ended with the Diamonds launching a final, catastrophic attack, which corrupted most Gems on Earth and marked the end of Era 1. The subsequent Era 2 was defined by a severe resource crisis on Homeworld. This led to extreme methods of enforcing conformity. While not a widespread practice, the threat of "harvesting"—the act of shattering a Gem and recycling their fragments to create new ones—was used as a powerful scare tactic. It was the ultimate punishment, reserved for the most extreme cases of rebellion or for "off-color" Gems deemed unworthy of even the less permanent fate of rejuvenation. As of Era 3, this rigid and ruthless empire has been dismantled, and Gems are now free to choose their own lives.
Appearance
Gems have a default humanoid appearance, but the degree of this similarity to humans varies greatly. Their form is a projection of light with mass, which can be altered through shapeshifting. It is even possible for a Gem to have a half-human child. To do so, a Gem must permanently alter their form and then give it up entirely, as their existence is tied to their gemstone, which the child would inherit.
The most vital part of a Gem is their gemstone, which is embedded somewhere on their body and houses their consciousness. If a gemstone is located where an eye would be, it can function as the Gem's actual eye. A Gem's identity is precisely cataloged by their Facet and Cut. The Facet designates the kindergarten where the Gem was created, while the Cut refers to their specific design, like a model number. This serial number, such as Peridot Facet-2F5L Cut-5XG, was crucial for managing Homeworld's societal roles.
Abilities
While most Gems possess a set of default abilities, these are not universal, as many were intentionally omitted from Gems created during the Era 2 resource crisis to conserve energy.
- Superhuman Strength & Durability: Nearly all Gems are significantly stronger and more durable than humans.
- Shapeshifting: Most Gems can manipulate their light-based form. However, Era 2 Gems, like Peridot, were created without this power and were instead issued technological enhancements.
- Weapon Summoning: Most Gems can summon a personal weapon, which is a construct of light drawn directly from their gemstone. The weapon typically materializes in a flash of light following a specific physical motion or gesture unique to the Gem. These weapons are extensions of the Gem's being and vary in form, from swords and spears to gauntlets and whips. This ability is not universal; some Gems, like Lapis Lazuli, manipulate elements instead of summoning a traditional weapon, while others, particularly resource-strapped Era 2 Gems like Peridot, were created without this power and initially relied on technology to compensate.
- Fusion: One of the most profound Gem abilities is the power to fuse, where two or more Gems merge their minds and physical forms into a single, new being. This is achieved through a "Fusion Dance," a set of synchronized movements where the participants must be in complete emotional and physical harmony. The resulting Fusion is a distinct entity, typically larger and more powerful than its components, with a personality that is a blend—like an ongoing conversation—between the constituent Gems. The stability of a Fusion is a direct reflection of the relationship between its members; a strong, loving bond creates a stable being who can remain fused indefinitely, while a fusion born of conflict or mistrust is monstrous and unstable. Fusions can combine their components' weapons or manifest entirely new ones. On Homeworld, fusing with the same Gem type (e.g., multiple Rubies) was an accepted military tactic, but fusion between different Gem types was considered a taboo abomination, as it created a new being that had no place in the rigid caste system.
- Gem Storage: Gems can store objects within their gemstone's pocket dimension.
- Bubbling: Gems can create stable energy bubbles to encase objects.
- Light Projection: Gems can use their gemstones as a source of light.
Immortality and Vulnerabilities
Gems are functionally immortal; they do not age and their internal power source does not run out. However, their existence is still perilous. When a Gem's physical body sustains critical damage, it will "poof," allowing the consciousness to safely retreat into the gemstone and regenerate a new body.
This is only possible if the gemstone itself is unharmed. A cracked gem leads to a distorted form, while shattering it into pieces effectively kills the Gem. Beyond physical harm, Homeworld also developed methods for ideological control, most notably through rejuvenation. This is inflicted with a weapon called the Gem Rejuvenator, which, upon striking a Gem's physical form, resets their gemstone to its original, factory-default state. A rejuvenated Gem loses all memories and character development, reverting to the personality and purpose they were designed for. This process was institutionalized in places like the "Shell," a facility designed to reset "problematic" Pearls to a blank, obedient slate. Unlike shattering, this state is not permanent, as a rejuvenated Gem can regain their memories through exposure to significant people and places from their past.
Finally, distinct from all other forms of damage is corruption, a catastrophic injury to the mind caused by the Diamonds' final attack. This did not damage the gemstone itself but rather the consciousness within. A corrupted Gem who attempts to reform loses control of the process, their mind now feral and confused, projects a monstrous, animalistic form, and they are left with no memory of who they once were.

The Gem Caste System
Gem Homeworld society operates on a rigid Caste System where every Gem has a predetermined role, place, and purpose. This hierarchy dictates a Gem's privileges and societal function from the moment of their creation. Gems who deviate from their prescribed function are deemed "defective," with penalties ranging from ostracization to being shattered. To manage the vast numbers of identical Gem types, individuals are typically distinguished by a serial number composed of their Facet and Cut.
This system is strictly enforced, and shows of deference are mandatory. When addressing a superior, a Gem prefaces their title with "My" (e.g., "My Diamond," "My Sapphire") to signify their subordinate status. While this system defined Gem civilization for millennia, it was officially dismantled in Era 3, freeing Gems to choose their own purpose.
The Hierarchy of Gem Society
The Ruling Class: The Diamonds
At the apex of the Caste System are the Diamonds, who form the Great Diamond Authority. As the matriarchs of Gem society, they hold absolute power.
- White Diamond: The supreme leader, responsible for Gem identity and governance.
- Yellow Diamond: The head of Homeworld's military, overseeing all armies, technology, and Gem production.
- Blue Diamond: The enforcer of the law and preserver of Gem culture and diplomacy.
- Pink Diamond: Formerly responsible for hosting celebrations and managing morale.
High Nobility and Command
This tier consists of elite Gems who command fleets, govern colonies, and serve in the Diamonds' personal courts.
- Garnets (Hessonites, Demantoids, Pyropes): High-ranking commanders who lead armies and oversee colony development. Different subtypes focus on strategy, infrastructure, or governing established worlds.
- Emeralds: Elite commanders with diplomatic authority who are in charge of entire armadas and fleets.
- Sapphires: Rare aristocratic Gems valued for their unique ability to see the future. They are part of the nobility and are often assigned Ruby guards.
- Morganites: High-ranking architects and designers responsible for colony structures. They are ranked high enough to own Pearls and Rubies.
- Aquamarines: High-ranking agents who often act as special envoys for the Diamonds, dispatched on high-priority missions.
Upper-Tier Professionals and Specialists
These Gems hold respected positions and perform specialized tasks for the elite.
- Jades: Aristocratic Gems who frequent high-society events like royal balls. Their specific function is social and courtly.
- Lapis Lazulis: Valued for their immense terraforming power, capable of manipulating entire planets' hydrospheres to prepare them for colonization.
- Topazes: Powerful elite soldiers who act as high-level bodyguards and sentries.
- Zircons: Serve as legal counsel within the Homeworld justice system, assigned to prosecute or defend cases as directed.
- Nephrites: Skilled pilots who captain their own ships and assist in the construction of colonies.
The Soldier Class: Quartzes
Quartzes are the primary soldiers of the Gem Empire, designed to be large, durable warriors. This type is exceptionally diverse.
- Agates: A higher-ranking subtype of Quartz who act as managers and disciplinarians, meant to intimidate other Gems into obedience.
- Jaspers, Amethysts, Citrines, Carnelians: These and many other Quartz varieties form the bulk of Homeworld's armies. They serve as guards, soldiers, and elite warriors.
- Rose Quartzes: A specific type of Quartz with defensive abilities. Following the rebellion of one of their own, all Rose Quartzes were bubbled and imprisoned as a collective punishment.
Labor and Technical Class
These Gems are the builders, engineers, and workers who construct and maintain the empire.
- Bismuths: The primary builders and smiths of the Gem empire, able to construct temples and spires for the elite.
- Peridots: Technicians and engineers who manage Kindergartens and perform scientific fieldwork. In Era 2, their lack of innate abilities was compensated for with technological limb enhancers.
- Obsidians: Workers who specialize in digging trenches and other fortifications for Homeworld's armies.
Low-Ranking and Servant Classes
These Gems serve at the bottom of the formal hierarchy, often as assistants or property.
- Rubies: Common, low-ranking soldiers considered expendable. They are often deployed in large groups as foot soldiers, scouts, and bodyguards for low-level aristocrats like Sapphires.
- Spinels: Created to be court jesters and companions, acting as entertainers for the Diamonds.
- Pearls: A servant class considered accessories rather than individuals. Customizable in appearance, they serve their owners as attendants, assistants, and status symbols.
- Pebbles: Tiny, simple Gems who act as unseen servants, using their skills to build furniture and decorations at incredible speed. They appear to be the lowest-ranking Gems in the system.
Social Taboos and Outcasts
- Fusion: Fusions between the same Gem type (e.g., a Ruby-Ruby fusion) are permitted in a military context but are still looked down upon for their capacity for sentimentality. Fusions between different Gem types are considered an abomination, as they create a new, un-categorized being that disrupts the rigid order of the Caste System.
- "Off-Colors": This term refers to any Gem who fails to meet their designed purpose, whether through physical imperfection (like a "runt" Amethyst), incorrect behavior, or forbidden actions like cross-gem fusion. Such Gems are considered defective, cast out from society, and shattered if caught.

Pearls
Within the rigid hierarchy of Gem society, Pearls function (or functioned depending on the era) as a specialized servant class. They are custom-made, decorative attendants created to serve and signify the high status of their owner. Unlike nearly all other Gems, who are created for specific industrial or military roles, a Pearl's purpose is one of service, companionship, and aesthetic appeal.
Function and Status
A Pearl’s duties are multifaceted, combining the roles of a personal attendant, secretary, and valet. They are expected to tend to their owner's needs, open doors, announce their arrival, and carry out clerical tasks. While not primary entertainers like Spinels, they provide simple luxuries such as singing, dancing, and projecting holographic visual displays. Perhaps their most unique function is the ability to act as a living pocket dimension; a Pearl can store a seemingly limitless number of objects inside their gemstone for their owner's convenience.
Pearls are not common; they are luxury accessories and powerful status symbols. Ownership is reserved for Gems of significant rank and achievement, such as Sapphires, Morganites, and the Diamonds themselves. The idea of a common Gem like a Peridot owning a Pearl is considered absurd, while a Ruby soldier might aspire to be awarded one for an extraordinary act of service.
Psychology and Obedience
A Pearl's identity is fundamentally interwoven with their owner. They are designed to be utterly submissive and obedient, expected to remain silent unless spoken to, walk several paces behind their master, and exist only to serve. Their own feelings are considered irrelevant to their function. It is a fundamental aspect of their programming that a Pearl cannot disobey a direct order from their owner. When their services are no longer required, they are typically dismissed with the phrase, "that will be all."
However, this obedience can be circumvented through clever interpretation or loopholes in a command's wording. For instance, an order not to "tell" a secret could still allow a Pearl to "show" it through their holographic projections. The authority of a Pearl can also be seen as an extension of their master's will; a Diamond's Pearl is feared and respected, as they speak with their owner's implicit authority.
Creation and Customization
Unlike most Gems who are incubated in Kindergartens, Pearls are created in a specialized orbital facility known as The Reef. When a Pearl is first formed, their gemstone materializes within a holographic clamshell. A prospective owner then claims them by stating their name, at which point the Pearl's physical form and attire can be customized to the owner's specifications. The Reef also serves as a place where Pearls can be repaired or maintained.
Physical Appearance
Physically, all Pearls share a slender, graceful build and a characteristically pointed nose. Their most notable feature is their high degree of customization. Their coloration, hairstyle, and attire are all designed to reflect the aesthetic of their owner, and their gemstone placement often mirrors that of their master. This is why there is such a wide visual variety among Pearls, unlike the uniformity seen in soldier Gems like Rubies or Jaspers.
A "default" Pearl, one with no owner-specified customizations, has a distinct appearance, including peach-colored hair, light cyan eyes, and a simple dress incorporating the colors of all four Diamonds. The Crystal Gem Pearl is an example of a default-setting Pearl who was never customized by an owner upon her creation.
- #5Ruby

Rubies
Rubies represent one of the most common soldier types within the Gem hierarchy. Positioned at the lower end of the caste system, they are considered numerous and highly expendable. Their primary functions are to act as foot soldiers, scouts, and bodyguards for mid-tier aristocratic Gems—most notably Sapphires—or other important figures who require an escort but do not warrant an elite guard.
Mentality and Tactics
Individually, Rubies are not known for their high intelligence and can be quite gullible. They are passionate and driven by powerful, often volatile emotions, making them quick to anger but also easy to mislead. Their summonable weapons reflect their straightforward, aggressive nature. While the most common is a small, sturdy gauntlet ideal for punching, some Rubies can summon different weapons, such as a sharp dagger resembling a chisel knife. Both are suited for close-quarters combat.
This fierce loyalty is amplified when in the presence of a superior or legendary Gem. Rubies display extreme reverence and can become completely starstruck when meeting a figure they admire, such as the famous Quartz soldier, Jasper. They will recount tales of their hero's prowess and consider it a great honor to simply be in their presence. This hero-worship makes them unquestioningly obedient; they will follow orders from a recognized superior without hesitation, even if it contradicts their primary mission. As seen with the Ruby squad searching for Jasper, their deep-seated respect for the chain of command makes them susceptible to being tricked by a Gem merely pretending to be a superior officer.
While intended to be uniform, subtle variations in personality do exist among them, ranging from stoic and serious to naive and cheerful, though these differences are often overlooked by their superiors. Their true strength lies in their numbers and their innate ability to fuse with one another. A single Ruby is rarely dispatched on a mission; instead, they are deployed in squads where they can merge into a larger, more powerful Ruby fusion to overcome threats. This reliance on fusion compensates for their small stature and individual weakness.
Physical Appearance and Uniforms
All Rubies share a consistent physical template: a short, stocky build with large, square-shaped hair. While their skin and hair can have slightly different shades of red and magenta, their core appearance is uniform.
Their uniforms, however, can vary.
- The most common attire consists of a two-toned top and shorts, emblazoned with a yellow diamond insignia on the chest, signifying their allegiance.
- Other variations exist, including simpler uniforms that lack the diamond insignia.
- Some Rubies have been observed wearing different gear entirely, such as black suspenders or a harness over a simple top.
While their physical forms are nearly identical, the placement of their gemstone can differ, with some having it on their hand, shoulder, chest, or even in place of an eye.

Roaming Eyes
The Roaming Eye is a compact, versatile Homeworld spacecraft designed during the resource-scarce Era 2. Primarily used for tracking, scouting, and transporting small squads, these ships are the standard-issue vessel for Ruby soldiers on missions across the galaxy.
Design and Appearance
The vessel has a distinct, teardrop-like shape, colored a deep red. Its most prominent feature is a large, triangular, yellow viewport that functions as its 'eye,' allowing the crew to observe their surroundings. This central eye glows yellow during standard operation but shifts to red when on high alert. The ship rests on three small, pointed spikes that serve as landing gear and features a main hatch that opens downward to form a ramp.
The interior consists of a single, surprisingly spacious room, a result of Gem technology that makes the internal space larger than the exterior would suggest. The control room is circular, and as shown in the video, it is configured with five separate consoles and seats for its crew, with the main pilot's station positioned at the front, directly behind the main viewport.
Key Systems and Abilities
The Roaming Eye is equipped with a variety of advanced systems that make it an effective scouting and pursuit vessel.
-
Faster-Than-Light (FTL) Travel: The ship's most significant capability is its advanced gravity engine. This engine manipulates space-time, essentially causing the ship to "fall" through space to cover vast distances almost instantaneously.
-
Internal Systems & Form Calibration: A crucial side effect of its FTL travel is the distortion of a Gem's physical, light-based form. To counteract this, the ship has a Form Calibration system. The pilot can set the ship's internal field to match the specifications of a certain Gem type. When set for Rubies, for instance, the ship stabilizes all occupants to a Ruby's size and mass, protecting them from distortion. Other known settings include Topazes, Diamonds, and even Pebbles. If this system is turned off during FTL travel, a Gem's physical form can dangerously lag behind the ship. The pilot can also make simple cosmetic changes, such as altering the color of the interior lighting.
-
Utility and Tactical Functions: For its tracking missions, the Roaming Eye is equipped with powerful scanners that can lock onto specific Gems from a distance. It also features a tractor beam to collect objects or individuals from space. For planetary travel, it is protected by an atmosphere shield. Navigational tools include rear pulsar trackers, and for emergency situations, there is an eject button that expels all occupants except the pilot, who is protected by a safety tube.

The Crystal Gems
The Crystal Gems are a revolutionary group of Gems and their allies, dedicated to the protection of Earth and all life upon it. Originally founded and led by Rose Quartz, they stand in direct opposition to the rigid, utilitarian, and destructive colonial ambitions of the Gem Homeworld. Their core belief is that individuals should be free to define their own purpose, and that all life is precious and worth defending.
This philosophy is best expressed in the Manifesto of Rose Quartz:
"Fight for life on the planet Earth,
Defend all human beings, even the ones that you don't understand,
Believe in love that is out of anyone's control,
And then risk everything for it!"
History
The group's origins trace back over 6,000 years, when Pink Diamond, upon receiving Earth as her first colony, became fascinated with the vibrant life it harbored. Realizing that the Gem colonization process would destroy it all, she pleaded with the other Diamonds to spare the planet. When they refused, she adopted the persona of a common Rose Quartz soldier and, with her loyal Pearl, started a rebellion.
This rebellion grew into a full-scale war against Homeworld that lasted for a thousand years. The Crystal Gems were joined by countless others who believed in their cause, including the powerful weaponsmith Bismuth and Garnet, a permanent fusion born of the forbidden love between a Ruby and a Sapphire. To end the conflict, Rose Quartz faked her own shattering, allowing her to permanently live as her alter-ego. In retaliation, the remaining Diamonds unleashed a final, catastrophic attack—a Corrupting Light that instantly damaged the minds of nearly every Gem on the planet, turning them into monstrous beasts. Rose was only able to shield herself, Garnet, and Pearl from the blast.
In the millennia that followed, the surviving Crystal Gems protected Earth from the corrupted Gems and other threats, bubbling them in the hopes of one day finding a cure. After falling in love with a human, Greg Universe, Rose Quartz gave up her physical form to give birth to her half-human son, Steven Universe. With Steven's unique powers, the Crystal Gems were eventually able to heal the corrupted Gems and usher in Era 3, a new age of peace and freedom for all Gemkind.
Membership
Founding & Original Members
- Rose Quartz: The original founder and leader of the Crystal Gems, secretly the disguised form of Pink Diamond. She believed all life was precious and fought to protect Earth from Homeworld. Rose ultimately gave up her physical form to bring her son, Steven, into the world, passing her gem and her legacy on to him.
- Pearl: Rose Quartz's original confidant and a founding member of the rebellion. She is graceful, precise, and highly intelligent, though often wrestling with the trauma of her past.
- Garnet: The current de-facto leader of the Crystal Gems, Garnet is a permafusion of Ruby and Sapphire. She is calm, wise, and incredibly powerful, embodying the strength of a loving relationship.
- Bismuth: One of the original Crystal Gems and their master weaponsmith. Bubbled by Rose Quartz during the war due to an ethical conflict over the use of the Breaking Point, she was eventually freed by Steven and rejoined the team.
- Amethyst: A "defective" Quartz who emerged from the Prime Kindergarten on Earth long after the war. She is impulsive, fun-loving, and insecure about her origins, but fiercely loyal.
Key Modern Members and Allies
- Steven Universe: The heart of the modern Crystal Gems. As the half-human son of Rose Quartz, he inherited her gemstone and her powers of healing and protection, which he uses with immense empathy.
- Lion: A mysterious pink lion who was once Rose Quartz's companion. He first appeared to Steven in the desert and quickly became his loyal pet and guardian. Lion serves as a crucial ally, using his dimensional mane for storage and his powerful roar and teleportation abilities to transport and protect the team.
- Connie Maheswaran: Steven's best friend and partner. A highly intelligent and skilled human, she trained in sword fighting to become Steven's dedicated knight and fight alongside the Gems.
- Peridot: Initially a loyal Homeworld technician sent to Earth to check on the Cluster, Peridot became an enemy of the Crystal Gems. After being stranded, captured, and stripped of her technological limb enhancers, she was forced into a reluctant alliance. While living at the barn, she slowly began to appreciate the beauty and freedom of life on Earth. Her official defection occurred when she finally contacted her superior, Yellow Diamond. When the Diamond dismissed her findings and ordered the Earth's destruction, Peridot, in a climactic act of defiance, severed her connection to Homeworld and famously insulted Yellow Diamond to her face. From that moment on, she declared herself a Crystal Gem.
- Lapis Lazuli: A powerful Gem with immense control over water. During the rebellion, she was poofed and trapped within a magical mirror for thousands of years. Freed by Steven, her initial trauma and fear led her to flee Earth by stealing the planet's ocean. She was later forced into a monstrous fusion, Malachite, with Jasper. After being freed, she struggled with her fear and mistrust, eventually choosing to flee Earth again by taking the barn to the Moon. However, she finally chose her side during the Diamonds' attack in "Reunited," returning to Earth to fight alongside the Crystal Gems, solidifying her place as a true member of the team.

The Crystal Temple is the home base of the Crystal Gems. The house portion first appeared in the Pilot, while the interior rooms of the temple did not appear until "Together Breakfast". The interior of the bathroom is first revealed in the episode "Catch and Release". The style of the temple itself is designed after Obsidian, the fusion between the five main Crystal Gems.
Name The Crystal Temple Type Gem temple Location Beach City Inhabitants Crystal Gems Steven Garnet Ruby Sapphire Amethyst
Description The Crystal Temple is a sacred place where the Crystal Gems live. It is their base from which they plan how to protect humanity. Inside, the Temple itself is composed of several cavernous rooms, all of which are connected through the Crystal Heart and accessed with the Temple Gate.
Built in front of the entrance of the Temple is a beach house, which serves as Steven's home. From camera footage in "Lion 3: Straight to Video" and the flashback in "Story for Steven", the beach house was not built until after Greg Universe met Rose Quartz. As seen in the extended version of the theme song, shown at Denver Comic Con 2015, the beach house that surrounds the entrance of the temple was built by Greg around the time when Steven was a toddler. The beach house was constructed to give Steven a safe home with normal human house rooms and utilities, such as a kitchen, porch, bedroom, and bathroom. He was unable to use his abilities as a Gem yet, and thus, Rose's room was inaccessible for an extended period of time.
The statue on the face of the Crystal Temple is of Obsidian (the fusion of Rose Quartz, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, and Amethyst). The statue has four pairs of arms with four arms spread out, and the other four converge around the Temple's entrance on the statue's navel. Of the four spread-out arms, only the top-right arm with an intact hand and the broken-off remains of the other hands can be seen sticking out of the beach sands in front of the Temple. The statue's remaining hand is currently used to launder Steven's clothes, with a washing machine and dryer installed upon it and a clothesline strung out between the fingers, and can be accessed via the Warp Pad on its palm. The method in which the washing machine gets its power and plumbing is unclear, described only by Garnet as "magic".
The Temple Gate inside the beach house can access different places within the Temple. This is shown when Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Steven, and Sardonyx each open the same gate into different rooms. The way the door opens depends on upon the room it is being connected to. For example, Amethyst's door has a curved line of bubbly goo, Pearl's door is a straight vertical line with a circle around the star on the door, Garnet's door has two lines that split the door into three parts and Sardonyx's room splits into a curtain. Only a Crystal Gem that can utilize their abilities can open the gateway.
On the Temple Gate, a star with gems corresponds with the members of the Crystal Gems. The pink gem belongs to Rose Quartz and Steven, the cream gem belongs to Pearl, the purple gem belongs to Amethyst, the red gem belongs to Ruby, and the blue gem belongs to Sapphire.
The temple once adorned Obsidian's fusion weapon, a greatsword. Though for unknown reasons it ended up in the ocean and is currently still there.
In "Story for Steven", before the events of the show, the Temple once had a fence surrounding the entire area. At the end of said episode, Greg drove through a section of the fence, which, along with the Crystal Gems' increasing interaction with the local humans, presumably led to the fence's removal.
In "Jail Break" the Hand Ship piloted by Peridot crashes into the temple and destroys a piece of the mountain.
In Steven Universe: The Movie, Spinel's injector seems to have caused many cracks through the temple, with a large piece crumbling off.
Known Rooms Pearl's Room: Filled with many raised pools and waterfalls, one of which leads to Amethyst's room. Pearl's items (such as her sword collection) are stored within the pools. Amethyst's Room: Filled with giant purple crystals and piles of junk. Puddles in the room lead to various other parts of the Temple. One pool from Amethyst's room leads to The Burning Room (the Secret Team utilizes this). Another leads to a space-like room with floating rocks. This eventually leads to the Crystal Heart. Rose's Room: A chamber filled with pink clouds which grant any wish to whomever has the Pink Diamond gem. A vein from the Crystal Heart passes through the room. Sardonyx's Room: A room only Sardonyx can access. Through the metaphysical properties of the temple, Sardonyx has full control over the contents of the room, creating a talk-show stage and game show-based obstacles to test Smoky Quartz's abilities. The room exists only while Pearl and Garnet are still fused, and will break down and fade out of existence otherwise. The Burning Room: This room is connected to a vein from the Crystal Heart. A motley assortment of defeated, cluster, corrupted, and/or shattered Gems remain in bubbles here. The Burning Room is opened by Garnet, although this is not necessarily Garnet's actual room within the temple, even though her gem(s) can open it. Dungeon of Trials: By adjusting the metaphysical properties of the Temple, the Crystal Gems were able to make a customized dungeon containing three chambers constructed by each of the Gems to test Steven by simulating the challenges of a real mission. Steven finds out that the challenges the Gems put up were all rigged, as to not let anything harmful happen to him. Amethyst's Chamber: The first chamber upon entering the room is Amethyst's chamber. It leads to Pearl's Chamber. It features a runaway boulder and a vine to cross a bottomless pit. By entering the hole the boulder comes out of, the user can bypass all of the chambers. Pearl's Chamber: The second chamber is Pearl's. It leads to Garnet's Chamber. Her room is a piano-like puzzle, involving the floor tiles and musical note patterns. Garnet's Chamber: The third chamber is Garnet's and at the end is the final door. It features a spiked column that rises and falls from the ceiling and fire that bursts from the cracks in the floor. Congratulatory Pad: Upon exiting through the last door, Steven is then greeted by the Crystal Gems, who congratulate him on completing the dungeon. Temple Gate-Inaccessible Rooms: Several rooms within the Temple cannot be accessed with the Temple Gate. Crystal Heart: a red-tinted room with the Crystal Heart placed above. A vein leads down into The Burning Room. An unnamed room filled with rocky ledges. In "Together Breakfast", it seems to connect Amethyst's Room to the Crystal Heart. The room reappears in "Secret Team", with several lost Gem Shards inside it.
The Beach House is the home of Steven Universe and serves as the entrance to the Crystal Temple.
It was partially destroyed by the parts of Blue Diamond's ship as of "Reunited", but (at least its exterior) was seen under construction in "Escapism" and being repaired later in the episode, "Change Your Mind". In Steven Universe: The Movie, the house has been expanded. However, in "Prickly Pair", the front door was destroyed by Cactus Steven, along with a sizable portion of the front wall being destroyed. In "I Am My Monster," the entirety of the front wall was bashed open when Steven transformed into a Gem monster.
As seen in the extended theme song, Greg Universe, with the help of the Crystal Gems, built the Beach House over the entrance of the Crystal Temple so Steven could live with the Gems. While Steven stays in the Beach House, the Crystal Gems have their own rooms within the Temple, accessible via the Temple Gate.
The original house was a modest-sized dwelling with one large interior room and an upper level. The upper level served as Steven's bedroom while the main interior contained a lounge with a fireplace and a kitchen/bar. The door to the bathroom was located on the back left, past the fireplace, while the bathroom itself was built directly below the upper level. Outside was a balcony/deck with further seating and an umbrella. Hanging inside, a picture of Rose Quartz was above the door. The far side of the house's interior opened into the foyer of the Crystal Temple. Just outside the Temple Gate was a Warp Pad. This version of the house was partially destroyed in "Reunited".
Soon after Steven left to visit the Gem Homeworld, Bismuth (using her natural building abilities) and Greg started repairing the house as seen in "Escapism". Two years later in Steven Universe: The Movie, the beach house has not only been repaired but greatly expanded. Steven's old bedroom was removed and the house was given a second floor with a new, larger bedroom for Steven. Just outside Steven's bedroom is a new, higher balcony directly connecting to the outdoor walkway leading to a new separate nearby structure: A crystal-domed conservatory containing a second, galaxy-capable Warp Pad and Steven's own Diamond control panel similar to the one in Pink Diamond's Moon Base. The conservatory also functions as a sunroom and greenhouse, containing multiple potted rose and hibiscus bushes, gardening tools, a bench, a bean bag chair, and a bed for Lion. Rose's picture now hanging on the wall of the stairway (now it's inside of Pink Dimension), later the picture of Steven and his friends along with the picture of Cat Steven. There is a flagpole out front with two flags, which represent Earth and Homeworld respectively, as a sign of peace between the two worlds as part of Era 3. Both flags have a black fringe. The Earth flag has a background with three shades of blue representing space, an orange hexagram with a yellow circle in the center representing the sun, and a small blue circle in the hexagram's upper right corner representing Earth. The Homeworld flag has a dark blue background representing space, a saltire with white, blue, pink, and yellow arms representing the Diamonds and two pink and white semicircles representing Homeworld.

Beach City is the primary location in the Steven Universe franchise. It is situated in Beach County in the fictional state of Delmarva, in the 443 area code, on the East Coast of the United States.
History The Crystal Gems have resided in Beach City before Bill Dewey's great-great-great-great-grandfather, Captain William Dewey, founded Beach City nearly 200 years ago. After many months out at sea, the Crystal Gems, as messengers of Rose Quartz, came across William Dewey's ship and warned the captain and crew to turn back, as the land that would soon be known as Beach City was dangerous and not safe for humans. William Dewey, after an incident with the mast of his ship, drifted across the sea until he and his crew encountered a massive storm and a giant Gem Monster. The ship was saved from being sunk after a Crystal Gem fusion (Obsidian) saved William Dewey and the ship. She brought Dewey and the ship to shore and told the captain not to reside on the land. William Dewey chose to stay on the land, and the Fusion accepted William's decision and informed him that she would most likely interfere again. The Crystal Gems continue to reside in Beach City where they watch over and protect its inhabitants from danger and evil.
The entire city was evacuated during "The Return", due to the impending arrival of a Homeworld Gem Warship. A large chunk is missing from the hill on which the Lighthouse and Crystal Temple are situated, due to the explosion made when the ship crashed into the hill. Beach City's inhabitants returned during "Full Disclosure".
In Steven Universe: The Movie, Spinel's Injector's injection site was on the hill, which created a crater in the hill that was worsened when reinjected. The injector's second, accelerated release decimated Beach City, forcing its citizens to evacuate to Little Homeworld. It was rebuilt at the end of the movie during a series of time skips.

Ancient History Eons ago An unknown event splits the Gem Homeworld planet into pieces. White Diamond, acting as the leader of all Gems, constructs the Gem Homeworld's society. White emphasizes the importance of perfection, creates Homeworld's Caste System, bans cross-Gem Fusions, and instills punishments for those who are not deemed "flawless". In order to expand her "perfect" empire White leads The Great Diamond Authority in colonizing planets to create more Gems. Fluorite, Rhodonite, Padparadscha, and the Rutile Twins are considered defective by Homeworld's standards and remain in hiding in a Homeworld Kindergarten underground to avoid other Gems and Shattering Robonoids. At some point during the colonization of the Jungle Moon's planet Pink Diamond demands her own colony from Yellow Diamond but is rebuffed due to her inexperience.[1] Pink Diamond grows a close bond with the other Diamonds, often playing games together at Blue Diamond's Pool Area in her Onsen. Pink also became known for the lavish balls she would throw in celebration of the Great Diamond Authority's achievements. Pink Diamond is given Pink Pearl and the two often goof off in secrecy. Because of Pink Diamond's inability to adhere to Homeworld's rules she was often thrown into a Prison Tower where Blue Diamond would scold Pink, driving her to tears. On one specific occasion, Blue invited Pink to come to a Kyanite Colony, a planet inhabited by organic worms. Pink begged Blue to let her take the worms back to Homeworld and when Blue allowed her to do so she unintentionally released them in the Ballroom which displeased White Diamond. Yellow Diamond gifts Hessonite her Light Prism. Pyrope also recieves her own prism, and rules over Blue 4. Around 8,000 years ago Tired of asking Yellow and Blue for her own colony, Pink Diamond chose to ask White directly, only to be rejected. In a fit of rage, Pink Diamond damaged Pink Pearl's left eye. Pink Pearl is taken away from Pink Diamond and put under White's control. At some point, Spinel is created as a new playmate for Pink Diamond, and Pearl is given to Pink Diamond as a replacement for Pink Pearl. Sapphire emerges in a Homeworld kindergarten.
Around 6,000 years ago Pink Diamond is allowed to colonize Earth after getting permission from Blue and Yellow Diamond. She and her Gems arrive there to begin a new colony. The Moon Base is constructed on the moon for her to check the status of Gem creation. Having "outgrown" Spinel, Pink Diamond leaves her behind at her garden to focus on running her colony.
By the time the Moon Base is completed, the Gem race has taken control over 43 planetary bodies and two star systems.
Nephrite and her crew travel to Earth in an Ancient Gem Colony Ship.
Other Gems are created in the Prime Kindergarten.[3] Structures such as the Lunar Sea Spire, Communication Hub, Sky Spire, and Sea Shrine are constructed. Lapis Lazuli is made. Ruby is made on a colony. Around 5,900 years ago Pink Diamond wishes to be at the Prime Kindergarten to play with the Amethysts. In order to not be scolded by Yellow and Blue Diamond, Pearl gives Pink the idea of shapeshifting into a Rose Quartz soldier to blend in. In her Rose Quartz disguise, Pink and Pearl arrive at the Kindergarten where Pink meets the Amethysts. In order to not draw unnecessary attention Pink and Pearl travel off and Pink becomes fascinated by the beauty of Earth. She soon realizes completing her colony would destroy all she grew fond of.[4] Pink Diamond (as Rose Quartz) and Pearl defect from Homeworld and form the Crystal Gems.[5][6] The cut of Rose Quartz is thereby recognized as a threat and every Rose Quartz is removed from service, specifically Pink Diamond's entourage.[7] Pink Diamond decides to use her alter-ego to make a stand her fellow Diamonds could not ignore, originally intending to use Rose Quartz to scare other Gems away.[5] Pink Diamond tries one more time to persuade Yellow and Blue to end colonization on Earth Moon Base, this time using Rose Quartz as an excuse. The other Diamonds continue to ignore her pleas.[8] Blue Diamond and members of her court arrive on Earth to oversee the removal of the uprisings.[9] Around 5,757 years ago Pearl learns the human concept of being a knight at the Ancient Sky Arena.[10] Sapphire is sent to Earth along with three Rubies at the request of Blue Diamond.[9] Rose and Pearl lead a direct attack on Blue Diamond's court. Ruby and Sapphire accidentally fuse into Garnet for the first time. She inadvertently serves as a distraction helping Rose and Pearl to escape. Blue Diamond tells Ruby she will be shattered for fusing with Sapphire and allowing the rebels to escape despite protecting her assigned higher Gem. Sapphire flees with Ruby to Earth's surface. Rose tells Pearl how fascinated she is that two completely different Gems fused. Pearl attempts to fuse with Rose but fails. Rose and Pearl run into Garnet where Rose tells her to never question who she is, recruiting her to the Crystal Gems.
Around 5,600 years ago Lapis Lazuli is poofed by Bismuth while visiting Earth during its colonization. Other Homeworld Gems, believing Lapis to be one of the Crystal Gems trap her gemstone in a mirror to interrogate her. Pink contacts the other Diamonds to tell them that she does not wish to complete the colony and instead wants to preserve the life on Earth. Yellow tells her to finish what she started. Blue creates a human zoo for Pink and she and Yellow kidnap humans to store them inside. Around 5,500 years ago The Rebellion officially begins.[11] Some of the first battles in the Rebellion take place at the Ancient Sky Arena.[10] Bismuth is recruited to Rose's cause and begins outfitting the Crystal Gems with weapons.[12] The Forge is constructed. Bismuth creates Rose's Sword. Hessonite and her Nephrites fight on Earth under Pink Diamond. Around 5,300 years ago Bismuth presents Rose with the Breaking Point, a weapon designed to shatter Gems, specifically the Diamonds. Disagreeing, Rose poofs and bubbles Bismuth, keeping her fate hidden from the other Crystal Gems. A battle occurs at the location which would later become the Gem Battlefield. Many Gem Warriors fall and Rose's scabbard is lost.[6] Around 5,200 years ago The Beta Kindergarten is created. Jasper is created among the troops in the Beta Kindergarten and is rumored to have taken out 80 Crystal Gems on her first day.[13] Around 5,050 years ago After attempts to end the rebellion fail and many disagreements with Yellow and Blue, Pink Diamond and Pearl plan a ruse to stage Pink Diamond's shattering. Pearl, armed with Rose Quartz's sword and shapeshifted into Rose, poofs Pink Diamond, who had swallowed fake gem shards, thereby creating the illusion that Pink Diamond was shattered. [5] Homeworld enters into Era 2. From then on Pink Diamond permanently identifies herself as Rose Quartz and continues leading the Crystal Gems. "Eyeball" is fighting for Homeworld in Facet 6 and witnesses the "shattering".[13] Earth is deemed non-viable as a colony by Homeworld, commencing experiments to create Cluster Gems using the gemstone shards of fallen Crystal Gems.[14] The Cluster is planted inside Earth's mantle as a last resort to make use of the planet. Homeworld Gems are commanded to evacuate Earth.[2] During a battle between Rose Quartz and Hessonite, Hessonite loses the Light Prism and has no other choice but to leave it due to the Corrupting Light the Diamonds unleash. Hessonite is transferred into Yellow's court. Jasper is evacuated from Earth and adopted into Yellow's court as the only successful Beta Kindergarten Quartz. Lapis Lazuli's mirror is abandoned at the Galaxy Warp and her gemstone is trampled over and cracked during the evacuation. Many Homeworld Gems such as Nephrite and her crew get left behind.[15] The Corrupting Light is initiated by the three remaining Diamonds, corrupting all Gems caught in it.[4] The only known Gems on Earth who were unaffected are Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz, Pearl, Garnet (protected by Rose's Shield), Amethyst (not emerged yet), Bismuth (bubbled) and Lapis Lazuli (trapped in the mirror). Less than 5,050 years ago Fallen gems gradually reform, corrupted. The Pyramid Temple is constructed. Aquamarine emerges. Demantoid emerges. Demantoid is gifted a Light Prism. Around 5,000 years ago [citation needed] The Galaxy Warp becomes inactive.[16] Blue Diamond takes over Pink Diamond's Zoo in her absence. Amethyst emerges after the Rebellion, 500 years later than any other gem in the Prime Kindergarten. Around 4,500 years ago [citation needed] Hessonite becomes known as a war hero amongst Homeworld Gems. Amethyst is found by the remaining Crystal Gems. Around 4,000 years ago The defending Zircon starts serving the Diamonds and Homeworld.[17] The Crystal Gems construct the Crystal Temple. 3,000 years ago Peridot emerges, and is assigned to Warp and Kindergarten Maintenance on old colonies. Recent Events 19th century Rose Quartz begins traversing the Desert with a pride of lions.[18] William Dewey and his crew are attacked by a Corrupted Gem and rescued by the Crystal Gem fusion (Obsidian). Dewey goes on to establish Beach City.[19] Buddy Buddwick leaves Dewey's crew to begin his career as an explorer and author.[18] Lion dies and Rose Quartz resurrects him. At some point, Rose decides to store valuable and sentimental items, including Bismuth's gemstone in Lion's Dimension unbeknownst to the rest of the Crystal Gems.[12] In the summer of 1862, William Buford Buchanan, Beach City's most notorious arsonist sets a record of 335 fires. He drowns after diving into the ocean trying to evade police.[20] 20th century In 1965, the author of The No Home Boys series Dustylegs Jefferson dies after being hit by a train at a book signing event in an active train yard.[21] Beach Citywalk Fries is founded in 1979.
Ocean Town is abandoned after an unspecified catastrophe involving fire.[22] Greg Universe's family gathers annually at the Barn for a feast.[23] Greg drops out of a community college to become a professional musician and tour the country. A friend gave him a CD with a song by Kerry Moonbeam that makes Greg who he is.[24] He changes his surname from DeMayo to Universe and forms a partnership with Marty. Greg's family began moving away from each other leaving Andy DeMayo alone to explore the world in his plane.[23] Greg records Space Train to the Cosmos.[25] Greg falls in love with Rose Quartz and decides to stay in Beach City at 22 after cutting ties with Marty.[25] Greg begins working at It's a Wash, eventually becoming the owner.[26] Greg records "Let Me Drive My Van (Into Your Heart)". Greg attempts a fusion with Rose Quartz and proves that pure human-gem fusion isn't possible.[27] 40 years prior to Mirror Gem, Pearl finds Lapis Lazuli's mirror at the Galaxy Warp and stores it in her gemstone. A mud tornado, nicknamed a "Mudnado" hits Beach City. Lars Barriga, Sadie Miller, Ronaldo Fryman, and the Pizza Twins (along with The Cool Kids) were born.[28] 21st century Rose Quartz records a video for Steven/Nora. Rose Quartz gives up her physical form to give birth to Steven Universe. Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl kidnap Steven and steal Greg's Van temporarily to try to find out who or what Steven is. Greg and the Gems eventually agree to help Steven grow up together.[29] Construction begins on the Beach House.[30] The restaurant Aqua-Mexican goes out of business.[31] Sadie starts working at the Big Donut as a summer job.[32] Connie Maheswaran and Steven see each other for the first time at the Boardwalk Parade.

Hessonite then forces the light prism to go with her. In the end, there are two endings. the first ending is where the prism goes to explore the Earth. This is considered to be the good ending. The second ending is where the prism goes with Hessonite. This is considered to be the bad ending. Steven and Connie do a stakeout with Mr. Maheswaran, though the culprit is not who they suspect. Steven, Sadie, and Lars are invited to a party hosted by Buck and company. On the night of the party, however, Lars is nowhere to be found. Steven, Connie, and the Gems investigate several mysterious disappearances. Steven encounters Aquamarine and Topaz for the first time, and Connie is captured in the process. Steven and the Crystal Gems confront Aquamarine and Topaz, with the former explaining their reason for visiting Earth. In order to save his friends, Steven reveals his mother's gemstone and turns himself in, departing Earth for Homeworld. "Eyeball" somehow returns to Homeworld during this time, possibly rescued by "Navy". Season 5 Steven discovers that Lars is still on the ship. Nevertheless, Aquamarine and Topaz escort them to Homeworld. Topaz tries to help Steven and Lars escape but to no avail. Put on trial for Rose Quartz's crime of shattering Pink Diamond, Steven (represented by a blue defending Zircon) goes up against the Diamonds (represented by a yellow prosecuting Zircon). Steven learns that his mother may not be responsible for the shattering. Both Zircons are poofed by Yellow Diamond. Lars and Steven escape the Diamonds and meet a group of rogue "off-color" Gems (Padparadscha, the Rutile Twins, Rhodonite, and Fluorite). Lars is killed by an explosion while protecting the group from a pack of Robonoids. Steven revives Lars with his tears, causing him to turn pink and gain powers similar to Lion. Steven uses Lars' pocket dimension to return to Earth, while Lars and the Off Colors stay behind to search for an alternate way home. Connie gets mad at Steven for not working together to save their friends and him giving himself up in the fight against Aquamarine and Topaz, and leaves with an equally upset Lion. Mayor Dewey resigns from his post, allowing Nanefua Pizza to take his place. Greg and the Crystal Gems take Steven to a place called Cool Ranch to help him relax, thinking that he is upset about space. Steven eventually confesses to them his falling out with Connie and failed attempts to make amends and they assure that things will be al. Lapis Lazuli leaves Earth once again and takes the Barn, not wanting to get caught in the middle of another war with the Diamonds. Peridot subsequently moves back into Stevens bathroom. Peridot, Steven, and Amethyst return to the Kindergarten to turn it into an actual garden in order to cheer Peridot up but instead encounter a Flower Monster. Peridot gets over the fact that Lapis left her. Sadie quits her job and joins a band with Buck, Jenny, Sour Cream, and Steven. Kevin returns and invites Steven and Connie to his party. At the party, Steven has a tense reunion with Connie and Lion, who is revealed to have stayed with her for the past few weeks, and when the former two finally talk, it is revealed that Connie has been trying to get in touch with Steven to reconcile this entire time, but was unable to due multiple circumstances. Connie and Steven make amends and leave on Lion as their relationship is finally recovered. During this time, Lars and the Off Colors escape from Homeworld and become a rebel cell against the Homeworld Gems. Steven and Connie visit Lars and the Off Colors, only to be shot down by an Emerald while protecting Lars' new ship. Stevonnie gets stranded on a nearby planet and learns more about Pink Diamond's past. Lars and his crew rescue Stevonnie off of the Jungle Moon and Steven and Connie return to Earth, presumably unfused. Steven introduces Garnet to the Off Colors. Garnet tells Lars and the Off Colors the origins of Rose Quartz and the Rebellion. Steven records a documentary for "Sadie Killer and the Suspects". Greg becomes the manager of "Sadie Killer and the Suspects". Steven and Garnet adopt a one-eyed stray kitten and name it "Cat Steven". Ronaldo spots the Moon Base and the Barn on the Moon and informs Steven. Steven travels to the Moon on Lion to search for Lapis. Steven meets Lapis again and Lapis explains why she left Earth. Though Steven at first convinces her to return, Lapis seemingly abandons Earth for good after Steven tries and fails to explain another dream about Pink Diamond. Steven goes inside Pearl to find her phone and discovers that Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond, shocking Garnet, and Amethyst. Garnet unfuses and Sapphire becomes mad at Ruby, believing that Rose Quartz lied to them and leaves, upset. Steven and Pearl check on Sapphire and Pearl tell Steven and Sapphire the story of how Pink Diamond became Rose Quartz before eventually returning home, only to find that Ruby is not there. Sapphire reads the letter that Ruby had written, causing her and Pearl to break down crying about Ruby. Steven and Amethyst go out to search for Ruby. Amethyst reveals that she was trying to cheer Steven up after Steven tries to stop her from fleeing. Steven and Amethyst discover that Ruby is at Greg's van with Greg. Steven and Amethyst find Ruby and learn that she was with Greg all along. Ruby becomes her own person and dresses like a cowboy as they go on an adventure. Eventually, Ruby reunites with Sapphire and proposes to her. Steven, Pearl, Amethyst, and Peridot set up a wedding for Ruby and Sapphire. Steven releases Bismuth and after telling her the truth about Rose Quartz, eventually convinces her to come to the wedding. Bismuth, in turn, gives Ruby and Sapphire two wedding rings. They decide that in order to permanently heal corruption, they need White Diamond as well. Steven, Connie, and the Gems (excluding Bismuth) board Pink Diamond's old ship to travel to Homeworld. There, Gems cheer for the return of Pink Diamond and White Pearl takes Steven to White Diamond. White welcomes Steven back home and transports him to Pink Diamond's Palace. Steven befriends the Pebbles that live inside Pink Diamond's Palace. Steven is reunited with Pearl, and they are taken to Yellow Diamond's Extraction Chamber by Yellow Pearl. Steven vents his frustrations about White, but Yellow Diamond soon leaves on a mission. Blue Pearl takes Steven and Pearl to Blue Diamond's Extraction Chamber, where Steven learns that the Diamonds used to be very close and often played games with Pink. Blue soon leaves as well. The Pebbles recreate Pink's outfit for Steven. Pearl brings Garnet, Amethyst, and Connie to Steven, and he decides to throw a party for the Diamonds like his mother used to and invite everyone on Homeworld. He plans on making a case for Earth. Instead of attending the party where the other three Diamonds are present White Diamond sends White Pearl who announces that Era 3 has begun. When the Crystal Gems, Yellow and Blue Diamond get to Pink's Ship, White Pearl stops them as White Diamond flies her ship to Pink's and controls it. Yellow and Blue's ships come and knock down the Diamond Mech, piloted by Bismuth and a reformed Peridot and Lapis. Yellow and Blue try to talk to White, but instead, she uses her power to control them. Steven fuses with Amethyst's gem into Smoky Quartz and reveals that Steven can pull Gems from regeneration through fusion. Steven fuses with Pearl to make Rainbow Quartz 2.0 and then Garnet to make Sunstone. All four gems fuse to make Obsidian climb to White's ship. Bismuth gives Connie a new sword. The main 4 Crystal Gems get to White's ship and confront her, but she possesses Amethyst, Garnet, and Pearl. Connie arrives but is contained as White Diamond removes Steven's gem expecting Pink Diamond to reform. Instead, a Pink Steven is created and refuses with the weaker human Steven to bring back regular Steven, which angers White. White Diamond blushes pink and releases all the gems from her control, including Pink Pearl. Steven comforts White for her flaws. Steven learns about Spinel's history with Pink Diamond, restoring her memory in the process. Connie and Lion return to help Steven. Steven convinces Spinel to shut down the injector. After hearing about his lack of plans for her, however, Spinel turns against Steven and reactivates her injector. Spinel takes Garnet hostage and goads Steven into attacking, but when he refuses, Garnet regains her memory and helps fight Spinel. While Connie and the Crystal Gems protect Beach City's citizens from the effects of the bio-poison, Steven confronts Spinel atop her injector. Steven regains his powers and fights Spinel destroying her injector in the process. Pearl and Pink Pearl form Mega Pearl for the first time and escape The Reef with Steven. Bluebird Azurite arrives at the Beach House and befriends the Crystal Gems (and Greg). She betrays the Gems but is defeated by Alexandrite and forced to defuse into her components, Aquamarine and "Eyeball", who depart. Steven and Lapis go to an alien planet where they find two Lapis Lazulis who are still terraforming planets. They are Nice Lapis and Mean Lapis. Steven tells both Lapis Lazulis about Little Homeschool and by the episode's conclusion, Nice Lapis shows up and joins the school. Steven throws a graduation party for the graduating class in Little Homeschool, but his feelings of anxiety about his friends moving on in their lives without him trigger his pink state and he involuntarily traps him and his friends in a dome-shaped bubble. However, after a pep talk from his friends, Steven realizes he needs to let his friends live their own lives and deactivates the dome. Steven takes up gardening after he quits his position as a teacher at Little Homeschool, and accidentally brings his cactus to life using his phytokinesis. Limb Enhancers
Limb Enhancers are advanced, detachable prosthetic tools issued to Gems created during Homeworld's Era 2. This era was marked by a severe resource crisis, which meant that newly created Gems, such as Peridots, emerged without the full range of innate abilities (like shapeshifting or summonable weapons) that were standard in previous generations. Limb enhancers were designed to compensate for these deficiencies, providing the wearer with a suite of technological capabilities.
Physical Description and Components
Limb enhancers are comprised of several distinct parts that encase the Gem's own limbs, making them appear taller and more formidable.
- Arm and Leg Sections: These consist of sleek, green casings that cover the arms and legs. The leg enhancers function like stilts, significantly increasing the wearer's height.
- Floating "Digifingers": The most notable feature is the set of five independent, metallic fingers that float telekinetically around the palm area of the arm enhancers, without being physically attached. These versatile digits are the source of most of the enhancers' advanced functions.
- Foot Sections: The enhancers also include foot coverings that allow the wearer to scale vertical walls with ease. These can be jettisoned in an emergency by pressing a button, detaching the enhancer's foot piece to allow for a quick escape.
Technological Capabilities
The abilities granted by limb enhancers are purely technological and are not inherent to the Gem wearing them.
- Holographic Interface: By using the digifingers, the wearer can project and interact with a holographic touchscreen. This interface allows them to connect with and control a wide range of Gem technology, including ships, warp pads, and robotic drones, as well as display data.
- Tractor Beam: The enhancers can generate a tractor beam from the palm area, allowing the user to levitate and manipulate objects from a distance.
- Offensive and Defensive Systems: For combat situations, the enhancers are equipped with several features. The digifingers can reconfigure into a cannon barrel to fire powerful blasts of plasma energy or discharge disabling electrical jolts.
- Enhanced Mobility: In addition to wall-climbing, the digifingers can rotate at high speed, acting like propellers to grant the user a form of limited flight or hovering.

Peridots
Peridots are a class of Gem who serve as technicians, engineers, and "Kindergarteners" throughout the Gem Empire. Positioned in the lower tiers of the caste system, they are primarily workers and managers of Gem production, valued for their technical expertise rather than their social standing.
Role in Homeworld Society
As Kindergarteners, their primary responsibility is to oversee the creation of new Gems. They analyze prospective colonial sites, manage the massive injectors that seed the ground with gestating Gems, and ensure that the new soldiers and workers emerge on schedule and to specification. Despite this crucial role, they are considered low-ranking workers and are generally not permitted in elite areas unless their technical skills are required.
Era 1 vs. Era 2 Peridots
The most well-known Peridots belong to Era 2, a period defined by a severe resource crisis on Homeworld. During this time, Gems were created with fewer innate abilities to conserve energy. To compensate for their lack of natural powers like shapeshifting or summonable weapons, Era 2 Peridots were issued technological enhancements, most notably their "Limb Enhancers," which provided them with increased height, durability, and a range of tools. It is understood that Era 1 Peridots, created before the resource crisis, possessed these abilities naturally and did not require such enhancements.
Physical Appearance and Attire
Peridots are small Gems with green skin and characteristically yellow-green, triangular or diamond-shaped hair. A defining feature is their transparent, yellow-green visor, which is not a piece of technology but an inherent part of their physical form. It can be removed like glasses but will always materialize with them when they regenerate.
Their standard Homeworld uniform is a dark green V-neck bodysuit with a yellow diamond insignia.
Abilities
While Era 2 Peridots lack most standard Gem abilities, at least one, Peridot Facet-2F5L Cut-5XG, discovered she possesses latent ferrokinesis, giving her the power to mentally manipulate metal objects. This suggests that even Era 2 Gems may have dormant powers that are not immediately apparent.

Injectors are Gem machines that are used to embed nascent Gems into the crust of a planet, where they would gestate before emerging. The Injectors on Earth are currently scattered all around the Kindergartens in a state of disrepair.
Appearance The Injectors resemble bacteriophages (phages) which are viruses that can infect and reproduce within bacteria, sometimes destroying the bacterium itself. The bottom of the machines have one large drill, surrounded by smaller ones. Thin, jointed appendages are located near the drills, presumably for walking. The upper structures sport large, red, gem-like ornaments on the top.
The body of the rig itself seems to showcase a clear panel containing within it what appears to be either an organic heart, much like the Crystal Heart located in the center of the Crystal Temple or an artificial womb. These seemingly organic hearts/wombs are attached to the head and feet of the machine via red and blue tubes that resemble arteries and veins, respectively.
Function As revealed in "Keeping It Together", injectors drill into the Earth, injecting a Gem deep underground. The implanted Gem then drains the life force/energy from its surroundings in order to grow. It then forms a gemstone, and emerges from the ground, leaving behind an exit hole.
Trivia Peridot reveals in "Too Far" that the Injectors on Earth have Era 1 drills, implying that there are more advanced versions of Injectors.
Spinel's Injector was a massive construct designed to inject a toxic biological substance into a planet, which destroys all life it comes in contact with. Spinel brought the injector to Earth to take revenge against Steven Universe and the other Crystal Gems after discovering she had been abandoned by Pink Diamond. In a fit of rage, Spinel forced it further into the ground, causing it to explode, requiring Beach City to be saved by Alexandrite.
Appearance The injector had a black-accented hourglass-shaped body with a pop-out drill and three foldout spider-like legs at its base. There was a large hot pink gemstone-like object with a heart-shaped facet at the top, which resembled Spinel's own gemstone.
Function Instead of draining life from a surrounding area to create new Gems, this injector delivers a type of poison called "Bio-Poison", which kills all organic life, including (but not limited to) plants, animals, insects, and people. According to Peridot, the poison would have been potent enough to destroy all life on Earth in 41 hours (1 day, and 17 hours). The poison appears to paralyze any organic matter when the poison comes into contact with it as seen when Greg Universe came into contact with the poison and got his left arm completely paralyzed. If the machine is disturbed or tampered with its injection rate accelerates. Additionally, excessive damage to the injector can cause it to explode which was its ultimate fate after Spinel's fight with Steven crushed the top of it.
This injector can be freely and easily controlled by Spinel herself through a horn created from her elasticity. It can be activated, deactivated and even sped up through her horn, the final command of which pumps the poison at such a rate that it overflows from the injection site. Doing this, however, causes the poison to not settle properly, and renders it useless.
Trivia It was confirmed during a book signing that this injector, along with the Gem Rejuvenator, belonged to Pink Diamond prior to her demise. It is not known when, why, or how either of the first two weapons was developed, but Spinel apparently had access to them both due to being Pink's best friend. It is never made clear exactly where and how Spinel found these weapons. The injector can hold and release up to about 237 cubic meters worth of bio-poison. The injector looks similar in appearance to that of a bacteriophage.

The Gem Rejuvenator is a non-summoned Gem Weapon used by Spinel in Steven Universe: The Movie possessing the ability to strip Gems of their memories causing them to revert to their original selves. This effect is not permanent, however, and can be reversed by reminding the affected Gems who they truly are.
Appearance In its inactive state, the Rejuvenator is a small magenta grip with a pink switch approximately two inches below its hilt. Upon activation, a long dark magenta pole extends from the grip with a gemstone-like object on the tip of the staff. From there two beams of pink energy extend from either side of the faux-gemstone with one of the beams coalescing into a short v-cut blade and the other becoming much longer and scythe-shaped. Sometimes bands of pink energy can be seen crackling around the blades.
Abilities The Rejuvenator works similarly to a Gem Destabilizer, as any Gem struck by or subjected to it are poofed. However, upon reforming the Gems will not remember anything other than their original purposes. The affected Gems will also revert to their outfits from when they were created. It is possible to restore their memories by recreating events and/or feelings that have had the greatest influences over those particular Gems.
Much like the Destabilizer, it was ineffective against non-Gems with no visible damage. However, it had a different effect on Steven who was a human-Gem hybrid: his gemstone took the brunt of the attack and his powers became severely weakened. For example, he was incapable of summoning his mother's shield for more than a few seconds and could not store objects in Lion's mane or bubble Spinel's gemstone after she was poofed. Even before he was depowered the Rejuvenator had been able to cut right through the shield.
History According to Bismuth, it was once used by Homeworld to reset Gems that were seen to have defected. However, since Gems were able to restore their memories from moments or events related to what influenced them, most Rejuvenators were discontinued in favor of other weapons and technology such as the Destabilizers and Shattering Robonoids. One of the few known to still exist in the present was Spinel's physical weapon of choice and the non-physical form at The Reef.
Steven Universe: The Movie After Spinel made her introduction to the Crystal Gems she pulled the Rejuvenator from within her gemstone and used it to poof Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl in rapid succession before striking Steven with it though this only resulted in him seemingly experiencing the same effect he would receive from a Destabilizer. Spinel then hit Steven with it repeatedly before he managed to wrench it away and use it to poof her as well. Unfortunately, the Rejuvenator's real effects started to show when the bubble Steven made to contain Spinel's gemstone popped leaving him unable to form another and his shield "glitched out" like the form of a Gem with a cracked gemstone every time he summoned it; after showing it to his dad Greg Universe its effects were further seen when Ruby, Sapphire, Pearl, Amethyst and Spinel all reformed acting differently than before. Steven eventually learned he couldn't store the Rejuvenator in Lion's mane and had to carry it instead. When he went to Little Homeworld, he showed it to Peridot, who was puzzled by it before Bismuth explained what it was.
Before Spinel went off the rails again she pushed Steven back making him drop the Rejuvenator which a reset Garnet picked up and activated; the sight of it sent her into a rage and she knocked him back further after he took the Rejuvenator. When Spinel mockingly asked him to use it on her again while holding the still reset Garnet hostage Steven loudly denied the notion as he broke it over his knee; the Rejuvenator was discarded, and its remains were never seen again.
It is unknown when Homeworld began and stopped using Rejuvenators, though Peridot's unfamiliarity with the device implies that it was retired before or at the beginning of Era 2.

The Reef used to be a frequently used structure, specifically made for the use of Pearl creation, repair, and modification. The structure is equipped with an artificial intelligence named Shell, which assists the user in activating the building's functions. It was later deactivated by Steven and Mega Pearl within the episode in "Volleyball".
Appearance The Reef has an ocean motif. The building is shaped like a clamshell and it is located on an island in the middle of an ocean. Outside the building's door is a bridge, that connects the island to an unknown piece of land. On the inside, it includes, but is not limited to, an activation room (as shown when Steven places his hand on a Gem pedestal), a Pearl "remodeling" room, and a Pearl repair room.
Shell Shell, The Reef's built-in A.I., is a helpful guide that makes suggestions as visitors travel throughout the structure. After Pearl and Pink Pearl's argument and Steven's outburst, Shell decides that the two Pearls are far too "broken" to be repaired and require rejuvenation, trapping them in a shell and sending shockwaves throughout their bodies. This leads to the two having a heart-to-heart and Pink Pearl acknowledging her trauma; this combined with the attempted rejuvenation causes them to fuse into Mega Pearl. Shell is voiced by Deedee Magno Hall.
History Long Ago The Reef was created a long time ago in order to create Pearls, in an unknown process. It was used for many years, creating an unknown amount of Pearls. After the beginning of Era 3 however, it was shut down due to Pearls no longer being made.

Sapphires
Sapphires are a rare and highly valued type of aristocratic Gem, prized for their powerful precognitive abilities and occupying a high-ranking position within the Gem social hierarchy.
Role in Homeworld Society
Within the strict caste system of Homeworld, Sapphires serve as seers and oracles for the elite. Their primary function is to use their future vision to foresee the most probable course of events, providing a sense of certainty and direction for the Diamonds and their courts. Given their rarity and importance, they are almost always accompanied by a retinue of Ruby guards for protection. Their presence at high-society events, such as the Era 3 Ball, signifies their noble status.
Abilities
- Future Vision: The signature ability of a Sapphire is their power to see the future. Unlike a fusion like Garnet, who can perceive multiple potential timelines, a standard Sapphire sees only a single, highly probable path of events, which they perceive as inevitable.
- Cryokinesis: In addition to their precognition, Sapphires possess cryokinesis, the ability to drastically lower the temperature around them, freezing objects and even generating ice from the moisture in the air.
- Levitation: Sapphires are capable of levitation, often floating just above the ground instead of walking, which adds to their ethereal, aristocratic demeanor.
Physical Appearance
Physically, Sapphires adhere to a consistent aristocratic template. They are short Gems with a single, large eye, which is invariably concealed by their hair. While the style can vary from long and straight to voluminous and wavy, it always covers their eye.
Their attire is a formal ballgown, reflecting their noble status. The dress typically features a dark blue bodice and skirt, accented with a lighter blue sash or peplum around the waist. All Sapphires are seen with prominent, puffy sleeves and elbow-length gloves.
Padparadschas
While most Sapphires see the future, a rare and "defective" orange variant known as a Padparadscha Sapphire exists. Instead of seeing what will happen, a Padparadscha's vision works in reverse, allowing her to announce events that have just occurred.
In the resource-driven, perfection-obsessed society of Eras 1 and 2, this was seen as a useless flaw. A Sapphire who could not fulfill her purpose of predicting the future was considered a waste of resources, and such Gems were typically shattered. While sharing the same basic silhouette as their blue counterparts, Padparadschas have a distinct color palette of orange, peach, and cream. Based on the only known example, they may also have stylistic differences, such as shorter, spikier hair, in contrast to the long, flowing hair of blue Sapphires. The only known surviving Padparadscha is a member of the Off Colors, a group of unaligned Gems who fled Homeworld to escape a similar fate.
