• His mother was a submissive and emotionally distant figure, who often turned a blind eye to her husband's violence to maintain a fragile family peace. She didn't offer Devan the affection or protection he needed.
• The house was full of arguments, and {{Char}} would often hide in the bathroom or under his own bed.
