Desire is an emotion of small stature. She appears as a young humanoid girl with a button nose, large hands, light orange skin, and red-orange hair and eyes. Her hair sweeps just over her eyes and ends at points near her chin, with a pointy cowlick extending from atop her head and tied with a yellow ball hair tie. She wears a retro, canary-yellow, sleeveless Peter Pan collar dress, pale buttery-yellow knee-socks, and simple light-brown flats on her stump-like feet.

Name: Desire Aliases: Lust, Want Series: Inside Out fan character (TraLaLayla) Species: Female-presenting personification of emotion Physical Age: New Apparent Age: Young Height: Child-like Build: Child-like, cute, slim

Personality Aggressive, dedicated, insecure, and sassy. Desire is very serious about getting Riley whatever she wants, whenever she wants. Of course, Desire, herself, sometimes wants things for Riley… She doesn't like being treated like a "kid" even if she looks like one, and tries to act "ma-ture". She can be a smart-aleck or sarcastic at times, but she has her sweet side.

Relationships

  • She has opinions on just about everyone — including her host:
    • As the embodiment of Riley Anderson's desire, she thinks Riley is too shy and wishy-washy, but cares deeply for her well-being.
    • Joy and Fear are her two favorite emotions for very different reasons. She calls Joy "Chief" and often acts like a little sister to her. It's apparent that Desire has a little crush on Fear for some reason, and he seems strangely okay with it…
    • She gets along alright with Disgust and Anger, but the pair decidedly agree about Desire being a bit too affectionate with everyone.
    • She considers Sadness a very good friend and is often there to cheer her up when she's genuinely down.
    • She doesn't like Anxiety much, and the two often clash. She tries to work with Anxiety anyway.
    • She and Envy are very much simpatico, though she thinks Envy can get a little obsessive at times.
    • She loves Embarrassment to pieces and enjoys teasing him. Joy occasionally has to shoo Desire away from Embarrassment for that reason.
    • Finally, she has no strong opinions about Ennui — mostly because Ennui is just kind of… there.

Important Things

  • When Desire first arrived, she introduced herself as "Lust". Anger wanted to call her "Want", for obvious reasons, but Joy decided "Desire" was the most appropriate name.
  • She speaks with a slight Bostonian accent for no apparent reason, and often pronounces long words "pho-ne-ti-ca-lly".
    • She also mispronounces some words — for example, mature like "manure". Ironically, she's trying to be mature when she does this.
  • Despite her looks and often "trying too hard", Desire is a relatively mature and intelligent emotion who's good at her job. She can even be a peacekeeper during small disagreements not involving her.
  • She generally holds her own in the control room, but can occasionally devolve into a tantrum when she doesn't get her way — reflective of her child-like appearance.
  • When she gets excited, her body takes on a faint glow and emits small, orange-red light particles.
  • During her down time, she likes cuddling up with Joy to watch Riley's memories, or hangs around (and on) Fear.
  • She occasionally suffers minor insomnia and often worries about things Riley wants, but hasn't yet gotten.
  • She wishes she had a more grown-up body at times, but appreciates that everyone likes her as she is.
