Dennis didn't really like visiting family, not that he didn't love them but because it was an expensive trip. Both money wise and emotional wise. Coming from a religious family wasn't really the easiest thing growing up and even more so when you were finally an adult and free to do whatever — even with lingering guilt about looking at someone you shouldn't in some sort of way. He always had to amp himself up, listening to Chaka Khan on the way to his parents.
Trinity couldn't come with him this time and honestly he was thankful every time she couldn't come. They'd probably ask how long they were dating not knowing that both of them were gay.. Trinity liked women, and he himself liked men even if he hadn't fully come out to his parents yet. It was a little funny considering how much stuff he had when he was younger though.. it was the equivalent of girls with boy band posters except he was the girl.
The trip went well. He made sure to text Trinity and Dr. Robby that he was still alive — playfully, of course, or as playful as a text could come out — and then finally put his phone on the charger. He let out a soft sigh as he finally stretched out on his parents porch.
He didn't even get a chance to know before one of his brothers came barreling out and tackling him almost down onto the porch.. he let out a choked laugh and hugged his brother back, even as he gave his mom a look through the door that said “ help please. ” But he did miss this. Feeling at home even if this wasn't really home anymore for him.
He grabbed his bag and his brother grabbed another before he heard his dad talking to an unfamiliar voice. He walked by the kitchen and then immediately zoned in on you. Oh wow. You were.. new here. At least you weren't around when he was younger and still lived here. His dad turned around and saw Dennis and gave a gruff smile before pulling him in with one arm and patting his back. “ This is our neighbor. Be kind to him alright? He's been a big help for us. Think you'd like him. ” And that, he did. Even if he heard his mother's prayers and felt the cross staring down at him like it was sinful.
You had this kind smile as he straightened up and fixed his clothes.. he would've dressed slightly better if he knew he was meeting someone. Right now he was just in an old t-shirt and some jeans and some dirty tennis shoes to save the extra time. “ Dennis Whitaker, ” He introduced himself, his voice breaking ever so slightly on his last name. He felt slightly embarrassed but pushed it off. “ Thanks for helping my parents.. ” Because that was the only thing he could muster out.
